Sabretooth Tiger

Very funny Dens.   ;D

I think that the quiet of the post-season SCIAC board (cue crickets chirping) has had a sopoforic impact . . . plus, frankly, the thought never crossed my mind.  Not enough years on the top to develop the requisite arrogance may be the explanation?

Or maybe you're right, the "quieter, gentler" catnation has had an impact.  We'll find out this fall won't we?

I keep hoping to find something to keep lively discussions going here, but am coming up blank . . . and the hoops board seems pretty slow as well.

But hey, at least Oxy beat Whitworth (and Amherst) at the Tiger Classic!!

Io Triumphe!

Ok Ok,  I'll satisfy you  (advance warning to all bulldog fans--just kidding!).

Your right I was just thinking about that.  Obviously Maynard is tired of getting his butt kicked by Oxy and wants to go to a place like SIU where at least he can say a real team like Linfield kicks my butt or Western state (bottom of the RMAC by the way) and get his butt kicked by the entire conference!!  I guess it feels better to say at least I am losing at the D2 level rather than D3. :D

Hey guys and gals.  Check out the newest issue of Sports Illustrated and read rick Rileys column in the very back.  SCIAC and Cal tech gettin some love.

Eye of da TIGER

Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette has released an All-West Region team, congradulations to the many SCIAC players that were recognized!!!! Especially those Oxy Tigers! I had a great time cheering on the Oxy Tiger men's bball team last nite as they defeated La Verne and moved to 10-1.  I was wondering if any other football teams in the SCIAC support the men's bball team as much as the Tigers do?  If the answer is yes, then i look forward to playing you guys cuz its going to be a battle.
4 is the smallest composite number, its proper divisors being 1 and 2. 4 is the smallest squared prime. 4 is the only number in the English language for which the number of letters in its name is equal to the number itself. 4 is also the number of titles in a row the tigers will have in '07!! Go Oxy

Too bad Hansen is so computer illiterate.  I can't find his list.  Maybe tomorrow.

Great article by Rick Reilly, the guys at Cal Tech sure must have a great sense of humor.  My favorite part of the article was Rick's notation that Cal Tech has no cheerleaders and offered up his own battle cry...

'Molecules, slide rules
Watt, ampere!
Fill that cylinder
With that sphere!'

Howdy:

I'm a D3 fan and amateur sports photographer who would like to find a neat old building in which to attend a game while I'm in Southern California January 14-20. It doesn't have to be D3, but that's what I'm used to seeing in the Iowa and Midwest Conferences. D2, NAIA or NBA D-League would be fine. I just like the old gyms. Hope to make it to Oxy in time for tonight's game and will probably hit Redlands on Wednesday. The Redlands website says its fieldhouse is the "grande dame" of SCIAC basketball, but it looks as if the place has had a lot of renovation. I would appreciate suggestions of Southern Cal places with "Hoosiers" kind of atmosphere and character.

Thank you.

Sigerson - Not sure that I can help you out, its good news to hear you'll be at the Oxy game tonight, it should be a good one.  Cal Lu plays a good team game.

Might want to try your luck on the d3hoops board, 'Posting Up.'

Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

Eye of da TIGER

i will tell you what i love the story on the front page of d3football.com.  Occidental's own Derek Turbin to play in the Hula Bowl this Saturday!!!!  I think its awesome to see that some of the D3 players are getting the opportunity to showcase their skills, right there with D1 players.  I cant wait to watch that game and hopefully Turbo gets the opportunity to make some plays.  I cant wait to ask him, how much bigger, faster, and more athletic are those guys compared to the guys we play?  Well goodluck Turbo, you know myself and the rest of the Occidental and SCIAC fans will be cheering you on!!!

Great news for the Tigers and Turbin... good luck pal, we'll all be pulling for you.

That is awesome for Turpin, Oxy, and the SCIAC.  if i can speak for my Bulldog bretheran, any time the SCIAC is recognized that is awesome.  One thing that perturbs me is that if Maynard leaves, who is the premier coach in the SCIAC?  People can argue for Oxy, but they have yet to do it over a prolonged time.  The NWC had Frosty and now Locey, the obvious ones are Gags and Kehres from the nation.  in our football world where would happen to that distinction?  Long Live the Bulldogs!

I guess I know what I will be doing Saturday afternoon...ESPN.  That is great for Oxy and our league.

This is a WIN, WIN, WIN, for all.

Turbin gets a trip home.
The Hula Bowl sells tickets to the local guy's friends and family.
The SCIAC and d3 get great exposure.

First off, i'm not sure, but I think it's Derek TURBIN, not Turpin.  Just to clarify, I figure if we are going to give the guy some credit might at least get his name right.

Next, Bulldog4Life brings up a very interesting topic.  Who is the premier coach in the SCIAC?  Based on my observations, for the past 4-5 years, I've found that the best coaches in the SCIAC are not necessarily the Head Coaches, I would argue that some of the best coaches in the league are the top assistants.  And I'm sure there are some Head coaches in the league that would agree with me.  Here is IMO the shortlist:
Redlands-O'Boyle-solid DC for years, I think even better as the OC.
CMS-REtz-DC now, better OC though, he is a great line coach.
ULV-Coach Johns-DC-former UNLV LB coach & Potocki-OC
PP-Rynne-did a respectable job in Carons absence
Oxy-Fenwick-OC, Johnson-DC both hired right around the time Oxy's Program began it's turn around.  Coincidence?
Now this is just my opinion, having played and graduated a number of years ago, and now as a fan, watching games.  anyone want to add any more names into the hat?
