RFB,
I agree.

I think many of us have been expecting Whittier to make a sudden move upward at any time.  That will probably be delayed now.

I don't think so. BJ has been there for a while with Greg and he knows the game. He's a good man, a good coach and I think Whittier will be in good hands.

I hope you are right Smedindy. THrough this past season i felt that Whitter also would pull off some really big games. As many have already mentioned, I hope that they do ride near the top to make competetion in the SCIAC.

It is my understanding that the Whittier program made great strides under Greg Carlson and B.J. Hammer.  With the recruiting process that your conference has in place, it really makes it hard to recruit.  It will take time to rebuild your program.  I really believe your school has made the best choice to carry on what Carlson started.  B.J. was a tenacious player, and I can only believe will use that same attitude to build a great program.  I wish B.J. the best!

WallyFS4's point is a good one.  With the limitations that the SCIAC puts on recruiting, e.g. coaches don't conduct recruiting visits to high schools, and the presence of the junior colleges where every JC player thinks that USC is coming to call after their second year, your recruiting isn't easy.  Nonetheless, Whittier bringing in 50+ players each of the last 2 years illustrates Coach Hammer's tenatiousness.

Pat Coleman

Some of those restrictions were done away with. A coach can now talk to a recruit at games, from my understanding.

I hadn't seen any comments about why Coach Carlson ahd left Whittier - saw this morning that he took an Assistant Coach position with the LA Avengers of the Arena League.

smedindy

Carlson probably won't say anything publicly - he's too classy.

I think he was just tired of the situation - he was doing the best he could with the support he had from upstairs.

Heard a rumor that Cal Lu was looking at D-2. I would have to think that there is very little truth behind it, but I was wondoring what some of you folks thought.

D-Train,

That would be an interesting move on Cal Lu's behalf. I played against them when they dropped from D2 to D3.

RFB

I doubt that move is in the works. Maybe Scandihoovian could do some digging for us.

Like I said, it was an internet post that probably has very little truth behind it. Here's where I saw it:

I hope these are just rumors. This would have a significant impact on the league. Obviously the problem would be that the SCIAC team that wins the crown will have some weird trouble getting into post-play. The league is fine as it is. Make no moves
