Browneagle;

Thanks for the link.  Great article.  You have got to wonder what the scouts look for and see.  If the article is correct Elliot is a better prospect that several of the ones being invited.

Who needs Vick?  That reminds me of the guy the chargers took several years ago at #1.  Anyone remember that guy?   ???

Let's see, Brady was a #6 pick.  Kurt Warner played at Northern Iowa, was a grocery store bag boy and then played Arena football.  Now a Super Bowl champ.

Maybe scouts need to have a contract clause that takes money away for dumb recommendations!

Ryan Leaf. What a flop. I just read in the paper that he is now the QB coach at West Texas A&M.

Hahaha,

Maybe he can inspire his QBs to do well at that school, lead them to some championship, and eventually have a movie made based on his team that he lead to a promise land. Ohh, wait, this is Ryan Leaf that we are talking about.

On a related football topic??  Any word on how recruiting is going?  I have heard that some quality players have been on campus at Oxy.  Are we going to get the depth to 3 peat? and continue on for the near future?

Also, did you see about Vince Young and his poor showing on the Wonderlic test for the NFL.  Be interesting to see what that does for him.

Sabretooth Tiger

I've heard that there has been some real quality in the visiting recruits.  The story will play out after acceptance letters go out near the end of this month and we see who gets in . . . and then which of those young men decides that Oxy is the school of choice for them.

I doubt that move is in the works. Maybe Scandihoovian could do some digging for us.

Sorry RFB - I haven't been checking the board lately.

There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that Cal Lu is looking at D-2.  I know that some folks look at the new facilities and assume that the school must be gearing up for some kind of move, but nothing could be farther from the truth.  CLU couldn't be happier with the SCIAC and DIII, and I think all of us understand how important facilities are when recruiting at the DIII level where athletic financial aid is off the table.

From my understanding that wonderlic test points out a players psychological and cognetive abilities and to determine if he is not a flat out knuckle head. (Just kidding)

I read from a magizine that the test helps the coaches determine if the player has the ability to handle simple pscyhological problems, such as how to handle a defense that is changing muliple times.
DO i use this test to rate a player, probabily not. However, i does bring us an awareness to the world in how somepeople just move through the academic system if they failed a simple test like this and just finised at least 3 years of college. (Or maybe it wa something else)

Something that may be interesting -

Last season, onr item that came up was how Menlo's going NWC would effect the SCIAC and schedules -

Menlo has posted their 2006 schedule - with one game still TBA.

Last year, they played Whittier and Cal Lu - for 2006, neither is there (with one game still to be announced). Menlo did pick up Claremont and Chapman (non-SCIAC).

It will be interesting to see who else they play in the SCIAC, if anybody.

Nobody except Redlands has their 2006 schedule posted yet.

Gray Fox

Oxy's schedule is on their web site.  The same bunch as last year.

Menlo has posted their 2006 schedule - with one game still TBA.

They just posted this open date on the open dates board on March 28, 2006. Only a couple of other teams have it.

Gray Fox -

That is only D3 teams -

They might have to do like other teams in the NWC and play an NAIA opponent (Azusa Pacific?) or even a D2 team like any of the Rocky Mountain Conf teams (So OR. E OR, etc) or even D-1AA U San Diego.

Except for Whitworth (who Menlo already plays on another date), the other D-3's with open dates are much further away.

Even so, with so many teams that haven't published their 2006 schedules yet, there may be other teams that are closer who are still "negotiating".

Gray Fox

rbaikie,

You are correct.  I figured NAIA or D2.  They have done that in the past.

Gray Fox -

You are probably correct - the hole in the schedule looks to be the same weekend that last year Menlo played USD - I wonder if:

1) Menlo doesn't want to get beaten up by a 1AA
2) USD is trying to imptove their schedule a little more after finishing as one of the best 1AA's last year.

It wouldn't surprise me to see USD making a move to become 1A, playing some of the big boys after they saw UC-Davis knock off Stanford last year.

cawcdad

Would USD want to spend the money? They are a non scholorship 1-AA team. The reason they are the only school left from the WCC that still plays football is the non-scholorship status. Santa Clara many years ago and St. Mary's recently dropped football because of the cost. UC Davis is very much a scholorship program.

There was a wire service piece recently (I tried to find it online and haven't yet) in our paper about the diappearance of private schools in D-1 football. The reason is cost including and especially scholorships. Public schools are taxpayer subsidized.

Enough of this, I love D-III football!  ;D
