Got to see CLU's first practice last weekend, and it was pretty exciting. Lots of new faces but practice was much smoother than a normal first run through - everyone seemed to be on the same page.

Overall... very athletic, lots of speed, and some decent size in numbers on the O-line that we have not had in the past.

DB's look very strong, with a mix of returners and newcomers that all look like they can play. It will be interesting to see how the starting lineup works out. Corners will be lockdown on both sides, I suspect a lot of man coverage with one 2011 pre-season All American, and one 2009 All West Region back after a year off. Safeties and Backers all returning with some competition as well.

D-Line is likely the biggest question mark, but is anchored with Pre-Season All American Ryan Younker who will be a huge presence again this year.

On offense, running backs for the first time in a LONG time at CLU have a ton of solid depth. Chambers, Mosier, Rodriguez, and Martinez (FB) all have started games and know the system well. The addition of a COC transfer that could play right away is big also, I have heard he could compete for the starting job.

Receivers also have a lot of experience coming in. I will be shocked if Eric Rogers is not an All Region to All American player at the end of the season, look for him to make some more freakish plays this year, and to dominate big games. On the other side is a big transfer that has good speed and hands - had a couple of long catches and looked like he was picking up the offense quickly - and is already in the starting rotation. Also returning is Obrien who has started for 2 years, and Max Eller who had a good year as a freshman last year and saw some playing time throughout 2010. Plenty of fresh legs this year at WR. Sad story is a good freshman receiver from last year Nick Walin who was getting some PT in 2010 ... will not be playing this year due to medical issues suffered with a helmet to helmet penalized hit from a Linfield safety in the playoff game last year...

O-Line looks big and strong. Plenty of experience coming back which we have lacked year to year with the O-line, and good depth which we have also struggled with. Coach Mac is coming through on his promise after the 2009 season again this year with a lot of big boys up front. Gio Lapp will lead a solid group.

QB is Laudenslayer, who is returning with a full season under his belt - he should continue to progress as he was all year last year. Also have some good looking freshman, big pocket passers.

Special teams is up in the air, apparently we have some kickers coming in that are good, but haven't seen anything yet.

Best and most polished group (this early in camp) that I have ever seen at Cal Lu in the 10 years I have been around the program. Hopefully they can carry that over into the first week at Linfield, which is a must win for the program.

After reading a preview like that I think it might be best for the rest of the conference to raise the white flag. We might need to call in USC or UCLA in order to give them a game.

Sounds like something a nervous fan would say. I would rather beat the #### out of the "DAWGs" than play a D1 team any day though.

As excited I am for Linfield, really all I can think about is week 3 at home.  :D

Ya' see, RFB! If Maynard would have answered that darn phone instead of calling all around the country, we wouldn't have to play those solute monsters.
A fine mess he got us in!

stoonk...You've seen the Alliance field. You've seen the Salem field. Now you've got to see The Catdome.
Make plans today!

DOC--I do not like flying so cannot drive to Linfield for the game as it is too far away ! Times I attended Mount Union  home Games, L.A.to Alliance Ohio,  went by Amtrack  train and rode on Charter buses From Alliance  to see UMU in Salem Va.  Stagg Bowls.

Plane rides scare me like they scare John Madden !May check to see if Amtrack goes to Linfield area.

RFB sounds like it is necessary  to "Call in" The Sixburgh " Steelers to take down CLU Kingsmen in 2011.

News sounds good for Cal Lu, but I doubt they'll be playing in the new stadium. It's supposed to be ready for PLU on Sept. 17, but I'm wondering if it'll be ready for the home finale on Oct. 29 with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Live updates on stadium construction can be found at http://www.callutheran.edu/construction/rolland_cam.php :(

They have at least another 2 weeks if not more on that turf to finish...Logos all the fancy stuff then sand and rubber get combed in...at least what they just did at Fresno State...US$1.3m later!

Should see some of you folks tomorrow afternoon for practice.
