I was just looking at the box scores for the SCIAC games yesterday and it is pretty sad that 3 of the 4 games had under 1,000 people.

Oxy at P-P= 747
Whittier at Chap= 3132
Redlands at Claremont= 512
Cal Lu at ULV= 827

That is an average of 1,304 fans per game, but if you take out the Whittier/Chapman game it is 695 fans.  That is just plain sad.  Any high school game in the world will get more that that and it sucks to see the # 15 team in the nation play in front of 512 fans and the #13 team play in front of 827.

Played two times at Claremont and once at Pomona, both places feel like graveyards. Definitely hard venues to play at because of the lack of energy in the air.  It really helped having a strong traveling fan base at the Lu, I know Redlands fans travel well too.

I assume the low numbers of attendance at CMS includes the Redlands fans that were present, as well as Cal Lu fans at their game.  Someone noted above Claremont was on fall break and most students were gone.  Maybe the Redlands fans assumed a blowout and didn't bother.  Had they known their feet would be in the fire for the whole game, maybe more would have come.

I always enjoy going to Claremont for a football game. (Basketball is a different story.) Any place where you can walk in, set up your lawn chair and cooler on the grass, and watch a football game is OK with me.

As for graveyards, I certainly understand your disdain:

I have visited all the Stadiums and here's my opinion:

1. Chapman - the best looking of all the stadiums, it has the look of a stadium you would find at a bigger school.
2. Cal Lu - is nice, but kinda has that squeezed in, cracker box feel.
3. Redlands- Nice old school stadium.
3. Whittier- Same as above
3. Oxy - Same as above

and the rest...

This was done on purpose to provide the intimate atmosphere of the old Mt. Clef Stadium. With the absence of a track, the fans are a lot closer to the game providing a unique spectating experience.  I do agree it could have been a bit bigger. Hopefully it will help once the permanent visiting stands have been put in, although Homecoming, Redlands game and potential playoff games will always be standing room only.

Interesting!  I was not aware of the giant t.v. screens in the new stadium. Since playoff games will be on McMinnville the student body should enjoy the big screen experience.

I guess Sweeny from P-P is for real.  Very interested to see what he does tomorrow night against Cal Lu.

Why is he not listed under the individual stats leaders for the SCIAC?

No clue, but looking at P-P's stats it shows him only playing in 2 games, yet the team has played 5.  I know he sat out against Redlands but has played in the other 4 games.  There are players listed in the team stats thta have played 5 games.

I think what it comes down to is the fact that the SCIAC web-site is just bad.  I will say it has improved, but for the most part it struggles to deliver the correct info all the time.

That's not the SCIAC's fault, it's the fault of whoever put the information in. I see that two of Pomona-Pitzer's boxes (one home game, one away game) are listed as bad box scores. SCIAC site can't fix what the school's can't provide.

Fair enough, no clue how all the computer programs work so I will keep my trap shut and let the people who do it for a living continue doing so. 8-)

Jack,
Check out PP's web site again. It shows Sweeney having played in 4 games and rushed for 800 plus yards.

I never looked at the schools site, only the SCIAC site.  I guess I was just lazy ::)

He is still leading the NCAA in rushing. Here is an article on him from this week:

Tonight should be a good test for him! Lets get another win.
