CLU homecoming ramblings.

The light poles are placed oddly,they should be behind the seating instead of in the middle of it.(at least there is a press box in this one) they also under built the seating(2200+1000 temp),should have built it for 4k.Oh well its not perfect but it really is nice,the whole sports complex really came together.

You are right the new William Rolland stadium is nice but not perfect.  The playing field is aligned north to south and the home stands face directly into the sun. combined with 90 plus temps on homecoming the fans were wilting from the heat.  If visitor side stands are built I would make them the home side so the fans and team are not staring into the sun during day games.

Another aspect of the field being aligned north to south is the wind.  Unless a game is played in a rainstorm prevailing afternoon breezes will be a cross wind.  In Mt. Clef the passing attack and special teams kicks would be either into the wind or with the wind at your back.  Not crying sour grapes, just noting the difference.

It was surreal to be in the art gallery (enjoying the air conditioning and bronze statues) and watch CLU score in the south end zone in the second half.

All in all, a great homecoming.  the game was a blow out and it was good to see old friends.

Go Kingsmen!!!

PS.  If you come late to a home game at the new stadium bring a folding chair, you can set it up behind the north endzone.

enjoy ur day!

I am really looking forward to visiting your new facility next year. It sounds like a great place to catch a game.

You should be more concerned that there is an ex-CLU placekicker who's going around claiming that he was a football player.
Normally when ALL AMERICAN follows your name you don't have concerns with those claims.

Skip Bayless has it exactly right...

Skip Bayless has never played a down, right? Not as a kicker, not as a punter ... and especially not as any other position. If I were a kicker I wouldn't be concerned about his opinion either.

IMHO....teach a kid to kick, kick kick early. By the 11th grade if they can put the ball through the end zone 9 out of 10 times making the other team start from their own 20 they will be recruited mightily. They're almost worth a 100 yard rusher. Of course if their offense is terrible, they chose the wrong school.

If you really want a shot, teach your kid how to be a long snapper. I played with a guy with whom that was his only skill and he ended up with a nice little NFL career.

But they might not get a scholarship. Sometimes a kicker is a walk-on.

True, but my friend's son, Alex Mueller, is the freshman kicker for Kansas.  He was recruited but went to some kind of tryout camp attended by coaches from many schools.

    Before he states his opinion,  (and waiting for the Regional Rankings this week will help a bunch)
    I think that Wesley knocks out Huntingdon, which removes HC from the equation.
    If Trinity beats Centre, then

    the McMurry at Louisiana College winner goes to Linfield;

    Trinity goes to UMHB;
    and Redlands goes to Cal Lutheran.

This seems like a likely scenario, yes.

If Redlands wins out and then beats Cal Lutheran in the first round of the playoffs, would they then get to host the next playoff game? I'm a Redlands fan currently in Texas and won't be back in SoCal until after the end of the regular season. I haven't been able to attend a Bulldogs game this year and would love a chance to see a home playoff game.

Redlands at #8 in regionals ,not a good start.

The SCIAC has NEVER got a second team in the playoffs. I don't see that changing even if Redlands does win out. The regional rankings that came out today speak to this exactly. Money and travel costs trump everything when it comes to DIII playoffs. I'm sure some scrub team in the Midwest or back East will get in like usual bumping a deserving West Coast team out.

The West Coast teams get the shaft in playoff scheduling. Just like when a very good 9-0 Oxy team had to go to Linfield in 2005 in the first round. They would have housed a 1/3 to 1/2 the field with Andy Collins at the helm. But I'm not bitching though...

cludad

Has there ever been 3 west coast teams to make the playoffs or has it always been 2.

cawcdad

 A few years ago Willamette, Linfield and Oxy I believe all made the playoffs. WU's only regular season loss was to Linfield.

The NWC got two teams in the playoffs in 2004. Willamette lost to Oxy in 2004 in Eagle Rock as the Tigers then won another game at Concordia before losing to Linfield in the West finals.
