I would say that CLU d in the second half quit over shooting their gaps and played more gap respnsible.
the biggest factor in the 2nd half was redlands had zero answer for our passing attack.by the looks of the stats they still have this problem

In talking to the coach of another team this was their main problem when they played Linfield. Poor Gap responsibility led to some explosive runs by Linfield.

Hopefully they get this cleared up before the postseason.

this was also the problem at chapman, (also 16 penalties). The main def. we play is man coverage, once a team breaks into the second level there is not alot of run support and teams have been hitting us up the middle with iso plays or qb keeps on the edges off the option. the good thing is adjustments are made and things get better ;D

Hopefully it stays resolved. I would like to see them do well in the post season, and after what I dealt with in Redlands, I hope they beat them as well if they face them. I'd like to see a SCIAC team make some noise in the playoffs.

Pat what does this mean for Redlands? Is a jump of one spot significant?

Pat Coleman

What's significant is potentially being the highest-ranked team in the West that needs an at-large bid. Much better chance of getting in that way.

Obviously I'm not Pat, but it IS significant in the sense that they will now be the first C candidate at the table instead of the second (assuming, of course, that Linfield TCB on Saturday).

EDIT: (Didn't expect Pat to get back a reply so quickly!)

How many at large bids are there again? Are they designated per region or can one region take a certain amount an another region receive no at large bids? Not too familiar with how pool C works.

six, and it doesn't matter on the region.

I hope Redlands gets in and gets to try to catch Coppage.  I'd watch that.

First, muchas gracias to dahlby for your helpful information.

Really appreciated hearing such laudable sportsmanship from Doodlesdad who, coincidentally, was Cal-Lu's SID when I was an undergrad at Redlands. Time might not entirely heal all wounds, but my respect for Cal-Lu's football and teams has always been high.

Now, about Redlands' new Offensive Co-ordinator Jim Good. I concur that some of our play calling this year has been "enigmatic", which is why I suggested Good is not fully clued in yet.

But, "no offense"?  ???  This assertion is hardly tenable if one checks the SCIAC website stats for Conference-only games.

Including last weekend's Nov. 5th games, the Conference-only stats have Redlands' offense ranked #2 in Scoring Offense (40.7/game) and #3 in Total Offense (454 yards/game) slightly below Oxy. Ain't too shabby after the departures of our All-SCIAC QB, WR and RB and OL (Selway, Reuter, Swedlow and Albrecht).

Our new QB Hurst has done a surprisingly good job both passing and rushing, and RB Chrisanty was not 100% fit for first 1/3 of season (they are tied for #5 in SCIAC Rushing Leaders category).

Our worst weakness is obvious:  ranked dead last in SCIAC Pass Defense at 278 yards/game. Of course, the vacuum created by SCIAC Dee Player of Year Mike Nicolini's departure was impossible to fill, but I'm still disquieted to see the gradual decline since Co-ord. Jeff Thomas (SCIAC Dee Player of Year 2002) took the Head Coaching job at Puget Sound.

Btw, Thomas and his Loggers are finding the going rough this year---winless entering final match against Whitworth. Good luck, Jeff.

Fingers crossed for a win at Chapman and an At-large Bid!  8-)

Sorry, you misunderstood what I meant  :)  I didn't mean no "offense" (opposite of defense)....I meant, please don't take offense.  Hope that makes sense!  :)

Goode's style of coaching seems much more high school to me.  Not the Redlands way, that we are used to.  A lot of unused talent on this team.  My  opinion only.  Let's go DAWGS!  Hoping to be in Thousand Oaks in just over a week!

You sure want CLU in the first round instead of a cupcake low ranked team from elsewhere?

Bulldogpound,

Ah, turns out we are on the same page, buddy. My bad, but it provided the perfect opportunity to post some UR stats here for Dawgs who don't have time to hit SCIAC's website! :D
