El Tigre

Thanks for the shout out Densla.  I know some of my fellow fans answered some of your question, but I will give my input on it as well.  Yes ... as players we followed along with the board as a fun little distraction.  Especially in the 2004 season when everyone was saying we would never make it another week, but we kept running through the SCIAC like it were a bunch of Pop Warner teams.  Even though we read it our coaches stressed for us not to post .  Especially after the lil incident one of our players had on here when we went to playoff for the first time.
We can sit around and talk about what would have happened had us Cali boys played in the freezing weather, but that fact is we did not have to.  I guess you can say we found out who was the better team when weather is not a factor.  However, no matter where we would have played I know that my boys would have been ready and willing no matter what the conditions.  It was our first time in the playoffs in over 10 years and we had just won the first round in our house.  I think we would have put up a good fight no matter where we played.
As Liger said all the bulbs were changed and all the glass coverings were washed.  This happened in early January as a part the deal to use the field when they filmed an episode of ABCs In Justice.  While it does make a big difference I feel it does not fully correct the problem.  As far as getting used to it Eye of Da Tiger could answer that better, but it does help practicing on it day in and day out.  You gain the ability to see better, while most people can't.  I didn't have a stadium in HS, but most stadiums we played in were bad just not as bad.  The face lift really does make a difference.
O.C. RAH!

dgd,

I just read Redlands 2006 football preview.  They have five returning quarterbacks in the program, including last years starter.  Is your boy really good enough to beat all of them out as a freshamn?

All I know is that Collins is by far the best player in the conference and has two years of experience running that offense under his belt.  That alone means Oxy repeats.

SCIAC predictions.....

1. Oxy
2. Redlands
3. Cal LU
4. Matters
5. Matters
6. Matters
7. Matters

Anybody else?

He aint my boy ...I just watched him throughout high school at Crespi an all boys Catholic school. My daughter cheered for them, she went to Louisville high, an all girls Catholic  school, the sister school.  I and everyone else thought he would go D1, from talking to him a bit this summer, he wanted to continue to play baseball and the D1 programs wouldnt let him, Redlands would.  I dont know if that was what changed his mind or not.

Being new to these sports sites, I found some articles on him on scout.com and rivals......I was surprised he ended up at Redlands.......

he is 6'3" 235 lbs and I can attest to him having a strong pocket presence and a very strong and accurate arm.  Can he adjust to college ball fast enough to start, I dont know only time will tell.  Hey, he may never see the field for all I know.  From what I read and what I have seen, I think he will play.  I must say that I am not familiar with the quality of play at the D3 level to really have an accurate opinion.  D1 coaches must have thought he was good enough to play at that level though.  Again, time will tell.

Let me ask you this though, how many incoming freshman to D3 programs are all state and all CIF at the QB position?

I didn't mean he was biologically your son.  He's your boy because you are hyping him up in here.

To answer your question, I can't speak to all DIII programs, especially in the SCIAC.  However, almost every college QB was at minimum all-conference in high school.  It is not unheard of to have an all-state type of guy in DIII either.  Those are the type of athletes good DIII programs get in their programs.  When I was at Linfield there were always a number of all state players who came in as freshman every year.  Besides, all conference and all state recognition is often based on the success of the high school's team and how much exposure that player gets.  I'm not saying that is what's up with the Crespi kid but it is pretty common.

I relly did not mean to hype him, that wasnt my intent....like I said I have watched him over the last 4 years and hopefully will get to watch him again.

I checked his stats on Max preps and he threw for over 2600 yds on only 14 attempts per game.  That is pretty good, with 23 td's and 7 int's.  Not hype just facts, it doesnt mean anything if you dont perform at the next level.

I will probably get blasted for this but the high school competition in So Cal is greater than in Oregon, not that the players are necessarily better, but there are many more great players,  so that to win all state honors, is much more difficult. My opinion is based upon the sheer population of players.

and ...I dont know or have any opinion if he will start or not, or even play for that matter.......I really have no knowledge of the QB situation at Redlands.

There are better athletes in California than in Oregon but it is still a difficult comparison.  Is a Division III high school player who is all state better than a 5A (or whatever Oregon has now) all state player.  Who knows.  Besides, I may be confused but California doesn't have a true all state team like other states.  Correct me if I'm wrong about that.

Regardless of depth of talent, the NWC is considered but almost everyone to be a better football conference, which doesn't really make sense.  For some reason the SCIAC has won like two playoff games in however long now in spite of the talent in their local high schools.

I'm not going to blast you for that...just a discussion.  You'll have to make far bigger claims to get blasted by me. ;)  Wait until the season starts and you'll see some people getting blasted, especially in the NWC and MIAC boards.  I'm pretty civil most of the time though and am a SCIAC fan.

I dont know how you make the comparison but, Id bet there are more D1 players that come out of So Cal than Oregon every year......I was referring to sheer numbers not necessarily comparring talent.

I think that in Cal more and more kids are now considering the smaller D3 schools as an alternative rather than JC or gong out of state.  There is no doubt that if the SCIAC can recruit more of the so cal talent the entire league will become stronger.

Here I am represetning the UR on this board and I havent seen a game yet........wow, I need a life!

There are  some discussions on this board earlier that seem to conclude that JVs get more than their share of the talent compared to the SCIAC and Chapman.

I think Gray Fox is right.  This discussion went on a few months ago and SCIAC schools are losing those potential DIII players somewhere.  The JC's are probably getting a lot of them.
