1-3 or 2-2 after their 1st four is the best they can hope for.  Only chance for the playoffs for them is via Pool A, IMO.

.....if they win their 1st 4 games.....that would be impressive!  :o

Yes, winning their first four games would indeed be impressive, but going 3-1 during that stretch, would be fine considering playoff implications if they do win the remaining games.

Ya....I'd say if they do that they have a good shot that the SCIAC Title. I'd love to play Redlands in the playoffs!  ;D

Last year Redlands did not play their QB against PLU, they suffered dearly for it, a pick six and another deep return that really hurt UR, plus the lost of offense. PLU made some nice plays through the air and they won. CLU/UR game could have gone either way, CLU trick plays worked, UR did not convert in the red zone and CLU deserve the win. No beef with either win. Coach Mac himself said UR might be the hottest team in the SCIAC at the end of the year, comparing how UR just waxed all of the other opponents. If UR beat PLU they get the wild card spot...so the big game is PLU in my book to get the wild card spot, if they can not beat CLU at CLU. Coach Maynard is the one that was seeking a top opponents in MHB.

Look forward to the games, MHB at home then the next three on the road, this stuff makes it fun. Win or loose they have to re-group and get ready for another tough game. Even Oxy at Oxy is not a gimme.

5-0 or 0-5 depending on which side you're standing on it, RFB.

So how do folks think the SCIAC is shaping up?

CLU, if the transfer QB from MTSU works out they will be heavily favored to win it all again?

UR, need a QB and O line to step up, in order to contend with CLU

Chapman, several skills back, can they put enough pieces together to play at CLU or UR's level?

Oxy, will the new coach turn it around? Have not heard much in recruiting dept

PP, I do not expect much to change

CMS, should be better based on how young they were last year

Whittier, my sleeper...QB is back and if the O line can give him time they will score....despite loosing their skills. Can they stop anyone? D line and Linebackers, thin and lost guys

La Verne, Similar to Whittier, looking to poke into the upper tier, less turnovers by the QB and better play out of their defense will make them tougher...I expect ULV to be better this year

As you aforementioned, there are some big changes at key positions, but I think as of now CLU is the favorite, if Redlands can get by that gauntlet in the beginning of season with at least a 75% winning percentage then they will be in good shape to make a run. As for the remaining of the pack...

The Dogs have their backs to the wall early! no doubt.... New QB against the #5 team at home. They better be able to run the ball in game 1. Then on the road for the next two big games against two top 15 teams. PLU's QB is a fine player, very slick.  Sure would have been nice for our QB to play an easier game week 1. I could see UR using two QBs early in the season, figuring it out. It will come down to a running game, and how long can their defense keep them in the game. I think UR's defense will be better than last year. All starters return on the d front, making 7/11 starters back, Garcia our MLB being our biggest lost, but other backers are athletic. UR also gets a couple studs back on defense that were lost early last season too due to injury. The have some depth on defense.

I think the best bet is to find the one quarterback that they believe gives them the best chance to win and stick with him. This would allow him to focus on the game and not be to worried about if he makes a mistake, they'll bench him and put the other quarterback in. It is never a good recipe for teams trying to establish themselves to be in a quarterback controversy, never a positive result.

D3, I agree 90% of the time. In this case they have a senior who knows the system, and runner type kid who is getting better throwing, and crafty QB that can sling it....so it will be an interesting camp.

D O.C.

Get way ahead of MHB and then you can use 3 quarterbacks.

I see at this late hour ULV is looking for a part time WR coach, only paying 2 to 4k...wow....has to be tough at this point to find someone decent?
That rate is even low for D3 SCIAC conference, most of these part time coaches make two or three times that rate.

It should be fun being a UR fan this year...checked out Beyond Sport Pre-season ALL AM team, UR will face a lot of good players. I realize these are just list, but it baseball season...so this is all I got

First Team
Kyle Warner, PLU, 6'3"SR, WR...long and athletic, will catch ball over middle
Matt Shinn, ULV, 6'4" 300 SR, OG...surprised up this high...big dude
Chris Eaton, PLU, 6' 275 SR, OG, surprised, gave up a sac to UR, kick slides pretty well

Second Team
Silvio Diaz, MHB, 6' 260, SR, DT

Third Team
Matt Biggers, ULV, 5'9 200, RB, Sr...I thought he was the third or fourth best back in the league last year...
Jordan Patterson, PLU, 6'2" 220, SR, LB...pretty active player
Chad Peevy, MHB, Punter...

Honorable Mention
Andrew Pankow, CLU, OG, SR , 6' 300+++, I think he is better this s/b high by end of year..

UR's Kicker, Grady is listed on many list, Kickers can make a difference in a game or two over the course of the season.

Hopefully, I can catch a couple of games via radio or video and if I am lucky, if UR makes a run in the playoff with a lower seed, I can watch them live. Looks to be two team race in the SCIAC.
