Feelings from Redlands camp going into this weeks game? From reading Kickoff, I feel UMHB is a two TD favorite. Thoughts?
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

No I think closer to four TDs since the Kick off report was so accurate about UR, I do not blame KO, just impossible to get your arms around that many teams...I like the fact no is expecting much from UR...

You will see what I am talking about if you go to the game, I am pleased.

As I have posted before, UR defense will play MHB very tough, better than last years defense and the D that got worked in Belton Tex.... MHB starts a new QB, RB and three new linemen. Hope they are ready.
So lets see how they match up,  in general; defense is ahead of offense early in the season...UR d front is pretty good (three seniors)  and the FS looks like a linebacker...
If UR has a chance to be in the game it will be because of the defense.

It will be a fun night, I hope ....

Very good info, and spot on for our team. We have some very talented freshman on D, a couple that will get quality playing time, so I think our D will be stout. I imagine a strong dose of running, bubble screens and slants to fast receivers, and slot outs from TE type guys.

Will UR provide a live video feed on the Internet?

umhb2001,

I wonder if you could help with a couple questions.

How well do you think UMHB will handle the trek to West Coast (I'm thinking of No. Central's 2011 preseason loss at UR here)?

How do you rate the overall quality of this UMHB squad compared to the one which knocked UR out of 1st Round of Playoffs by 3 TD's two years ago?

Thanks,
Hem

While I'm here, how about this laudatory report on Oxy great, Justin Goltz, in the official CFL Recap of his QB work for Winnipeg's game last weekend:

"Not to be outdone, however, Goltz would not let the 13-point advantage last for long.  Shortly thereafter, Goltz picked up a botched snap, found a crease in the middle of the Saskatchewan 'D' and raced 46 yards for a TD.

Despite a valiant effort by Goltz and the Bombers, the Durant-Smith combination was just too much for Winnipeg to handle."

For any team to lose the D3 Defensive Player of the Year and their All Conference QB, it would be tough to overcome, so there will be some drop off, especially early in the season from the Cru. But, from what I'm hearing, the D is bolstered by some young talent on the Defensive side of the ball. I think we will be tough in the secondary and up front with our DE's leading the way. I expect them to get to the QB. Our weak spot may be in the middle and in the flats with our young LB core.

On offense, expect Hudson and our other RB's to pound the rock to take pressure off of our QB. If your D Line is tough, it could be a longer day. I expect bubble screens and short shots from sideline to middle to give our speedy, experienced receivers a chance to make someone miss.

This squad overall and early is probably a slight drop off from two seasons ago, but they will adjust quick. As far as travel, we've never traveled really well. I expect the team to be a bit sluggish in the first half and will turn it on in the second. We have traditionally owned the third quarter against opponents.

D O.C.

Since d3.com knows their stuff then by ranking UMHB ahead of LINFIELD Redlands might keep their loss near 20 points even with help from the whole Saboba Indian Nation.

Well...Linfield is 2-0 all-time vs UMHB.

Thanks kindly for your lucid analysis of the Crusaders' prospsects this year.

Based upon your assessment of the travel factor, I'm a bit more hopeful that UR will make the final score narrower than we did in 2011 Playoffs.

Cheers!

UMHB,

I do not think UR will provide a video feed. They put out a press release regarding their radio station (go on UR football site) and it reads like there will be video but so far the only links that show up are from the other schools. Typically UR does some video feed of different sports but not the entire home schedule.
I would keep checking it or email the school, it seams typical releases have been dragging a bit this year. I usually listen to the game on the radio while I am there.

I sure hope MHB runs bubble screens, we have a lot of vets up front, good corners and the d line runs well. Easy play to stop in my opinion if your D line can remotely read its blocker. I think UR will play MHB tougher than folks think. I think what it will come down to if UR's new QB, center and RB can play a mistake free game. It will give us a chance to pull off the upset. If we turn the ball over two times, we will not produce enough points to recover against your fast  and experienced defense. We have to play error free football to win, MHB does not. One interesting point you made about MHB being a third quarter team. UR too considers themselves one too, and it will be about 11pm in the MHB players bio clock, so lets see how they respond. How hot has it been in Belton, expect it be about 94 degrees at kick off.

Good piece. Weather here has been hades hot with high humidity. It's my assumption that the team will be fine with the heat, and I'm assuming your humidity is not as bad. Getting up for the late night won't be so bad. The boys are bolstered by the possibility of being undefeated heading into the new stadium against Wesley. I think the coaches do a great job of pumping that up, so I'm not too worried there.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

UMHB,

The weather has been closer to your weather this year. The humidity has been higher than normal. The amount of rain we have had in the area has increased four fold. It seems as if the thunderheads that typically stay more east are greater this year, creating humidity around 50%, versus low 30's...
It is supposed to go back closer to normal by game time.

Update from PoetLand:

Poets are down in numbers (70 players on the roster) but up in talent.  Have done a fine job with finding talent to replace and fill in for the departed Fooks and Tillman.  QB is by far their deepest position.  Poets also did a fine job replacing their departed on defense (Omalley and Scicli).
Should be an interesting year as Stratton heads into his second season at the helm.
Open up with Whitworth on Sep 14. Should be a great test on the road for the Poets.  Lost a shootout last year at home.

Sidenote: Tillman has signed with Arena leagues Utah Blaze.  Has put up big numbers in their first 6-7 games of the season.  Looking to break into the league as a return specialist.  Will keep yall updates.
Good to be back at it. It was a long off-season.

Update re Oxy football. All you need to know about the 2013 Oxy football team cannot be found on the football home page. The four headline stories are these:

NFL Coach Mora Headlines 2013 HOF Class
Former Oxy LB Holsworth Back to Coach
Oxy Football Legend Rick Fry Nominated for College Football Hall of Fame
Oxy football registers 390 for "Be the Match" campaign

Maybe they'll get around to writing about this year's team sometime before the game on Sept. 14 against Pacific, which scorched the Tigers 27-6 last year.
