Just watched your old SCIAC schedule filler Azuza Pacific knock off Grand Valley State.

I recall when Oxy, led by the great Dale Widolff, used to regularly play APU and played them tough. One game featured NFLers Vance Mueller vs. Christian Okoye.

It took three guys to bring down Okoye.

The weenies in the NESCAC will no longer allow booing at sporting events:

Try enforcing that edict in Philadelphia at an Eagles game.

You're looking just at the final version. I believe the original text read:

Dear Coach Serpone,

Please stop acting like a jackass and making us all look bad.

Sincerely,
Your fellow NESCAC coaches

Anyone on here coming to Belton for the Redlands UMHB game?
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I would, but I'm a UCLA fan, and they are playing at Jerryworld.

My guess the UMHB game will be more entertaining, but maybe not for a Bruins fan.  ;D

The game at Oxy has been moved to 11am due to the hot weather.
Belton will be comfortable.

Cats need to hydrate....Supposed to run through next week, dead lands heat is much worse. Belton, at game time 72 and humidity in the low 50's ....sweet

Oxy held on for dear life and beat Puget Sound 34-32. The Tigers led 34-13 but UPS recovered a couple of onside kicks and scored 3 times in the last 4 minutes to almost pull it out. The Loggers failed three times to convert after touchdowns.

For Oxy, QBs Tommy Edwards and Bryan Scott both left the game with injuries, but Tom Stivers came in and did a great job. Stivers was 14-for-15 passing for 155 yards and 3 TDs. Kwame Do rushed for 108 yards and 2 TDs on 26 carries.

Other games involving SCIAC teams:

Pacific Lutheran 35 Cal Lutheran 28
Whitworth 30 Whittier 17
Mary Hardin-Baylor 36 Redlands 0
La Verne 47 George Fox 33
Claremont 36 Lewis & Clark 14

Redlands had a rough time against No. 2 MHB. The Bulldogs only had 5 net yards rushing, 7 first downs, 0-for-15 on 3rd down, and 155 yards total offense. Next week UR will host No. 5 Linfield, which won 21-14 over IND Chapman.

Next Saturday's SCIAC schedule:

Oxy (1-0) @ Austin (0-2)
Lewis & Clark (0-2) @ Whittier (0-1)
Willamette (1-0) @ Cal Lutheran (0-1)
Whitworth (2-0) @ La Verne (1-0)
Rhodes (2-0) @ Pomona (0-1)
Linfield (1-0) @ Redlands (0-1)

Claremont (1-1) is idle.

I'm home from my Southern California trip. A thoughts for what they are worth. Whitworth had the opportunity to put Whittier away and couldn't. Up 23-0 the Rats let Whittier get back as close as 23-17. The Pirates even had a first and goal and could not punch it in, including two tries from the one. The Poets are a spirited team and did not back down despite giving up a safety and having a punt blocked on their first two possessions. Whittier will not win the SCIAC, but will definitely make the top tier teams work for the wins. The weather was oppressively hot (two spectators were taken by ambulance) and I wonder if that affected one team more than another. It had to have been miserable for both sides, the Poets in all black uniforms and Whitworth with black pants and helmets.

In game two, the Chapman Panthers have a very good football team. First game jitters and new starters showed for the Wildcats. The Cats defense settled down in the second half and held the stable of Panther running backs in check. The Cats receivers mishandled a few passes but credit should be given to the Chapman DBs who played pretty well. Look for the Cats to fix things for Redlands. I would love to see the Chapman - Redlands game. It should be a barn burner. I enjoyed the facilities at Chapman. The atmosphere and enthusiasm of both sides made for a great evening.

My opinion after the first weekend of SCIAC football.....

Chapman is for real. Regardless of what Linfield has/doesn't have, Chapman represented the conference very well.
Cal Lu is going to get destroyed on the ground by the SCIAC, just like last year. They played a close game with PLU but they are in trouble.
Redlands....so much woof woof but when it comes down to it, they got embarrassed. I think UR finishes 2nd but they might struggle.
I think OXY will surprise some, even after squeaking by an awful UPS team.
Whittier has always had the athletes, but they can't run with the top teams.
Very intrigued to watch the UR/Linfield game.

Embarrassed is absolutely right. It's time for Redlands to step up and start playing with the bigger programs. I'm not sure what needs to be done to achieve that but this is a yearly problem outside of the upset of North Central a few years ago. They better get it figured out quickly or Saturday could be a nightmare wiith Linfield rolling into town.

The dogs will be back. Coach Good will need to find a way to generate some offense. MHB defense is better than last year. They cleaned up a lot of mistakes from week 1. The dogs will not face a front four as good MHB the rest of the season and potential NFL linebacker. MHB's middle backer is a good as former MHB great Freeman. With that said the dogs offense was horrible, could not hold a block, dropped passes, etc...
On the bright side the defense played well. First four series against MHB led to stops. Then UR had to defend short field for rest of the night because the offense could only generate one first down in the first half. UR did not give up a TD in the first quarter. The defense was on the field for 99 plays, due to the lack of any offensive production. The areas the defense needs to clean up are very doable. DB' knowing down and distance, stopping zone read cut back, & wild cat formations. MHB went to their second qb, because #1 did not play well.
In short this MHB team will contend to win it all, and the dogs with over a dozen kids getting their first big time college reps will get better next week. The offense will need to find a way, the defense will keep them in the game.

Well, The 'Cats are still figuring some stuff out but Linfield has the talent to be great.  Linfield's ceiling is high but the 'Cats are in a growth mode right now and if I was the opposition I would rather play this Linfield team early in the season than late.  I'm expecting a very good game this weekend.  See you then, RFB
