I heard last week he was questionable and played some. I think he is still nursing a sore ankle and back. I will ask around. I agree it made more sense to play him. I think they are trying to nurse him along to get through the season.

Makes sense.  After seeing how physical he is it doesn't surprise me his body is a little banged up.  Good luck the rest of the season.

Best of Luck too....I think CLU will be the team to beat next year.

RFB can go to sleep a happy man tonight.  Good game but Redlands out-coached Cal Lu at the end.  I thought Cal Lu should have gone for it twice on 4th and less than 1 but they decided not to.  I guess that's why I am sitting in my living room and not holding a clipboard.

All is right in the world when "The Who" go down..

This week in the SCIAC, comments more than welcome

Whittier/La Verne. Who would have thought going into the Redlands game LV will be 3-0, 4-1. La Verne's offense seems to be clicking, my only concern is CMS did a good job slowing Sparks down on the running game. Whittier is a mess, playing a SS at RB. Whittier has some talent, played CLU tough for three quarters but it appears the defensive wheels have come off. Whittier starts several freshman up front. The Roster is very small for the Poets.

CLU/PP....CLU has too good of a run defense for PP. They will force PP to throw the ball more than they want. CLU will grind this one out for a 14 point Regal victory, PP showed against UR they were not the best on run defense and CLU will enjoy the same success.

Chapman/Oxy....This is a tough one, but I will go with Chapman based the better defense. I think Chapman will play the game just like the Raiders of old. A ton of running the ball and an occasional stretch of the field to Meyers. I would run the ball to keep Oxy's O off the field. Look for Chapman to rebound, they still control their own destiny and still think this conference is theirs.

CMS/The Pups...This is a tough game for UR. Emotional let down? , and CMS is the second most improved team in the conference behind the Regals. This game is going to be close. Look for CMS to throw the ball on UR since UR has the best run stop defense in the conference. UR will try to wear down the Staggs with a lot dive option. UR can not let up in this CMS team, they are seasoned, have some nice skill players, and one tough RB. The puppies by 6 six dog bones, in a tough game. Turnovers the key here.

So, are we going to have a "rose bowl rule" champ this year or will LaVerne or Cal Lu manage to win it outright?  Thoughts?

What a mess.  I don't see Cal Lu beating Chapman on the road so that will leave a lot of room for LaVerne, but I wouldn't leave Redlands out of the mix.  Going to be an interesting few weeks.

I guess Redlands could win out and LaVerne could drop an additional game (to add to a loss to Redlands) then CMS would also have to drop another game as well...and of course Oxy is in the mix, too.   It seems safe to say that Whittier, Pomona, and Chapman (wow!) are all pretty much eliminated.   Looks to be a interesting 4 weeks....

I think LaVerne would be the Rose Bowl rule choice.

maybe Claremont---neither of those teams have won a SCIAC championship as far back as I can find on d3football.com (and SCIAC site has even less information as far as I can tell).

Update:  Definitely Claremont--they have not won a SCIAC Championship since 1987 (I think).  La Verne went undefeated in 1994 (but lost to St. Johns in the playoffs) and 1995 (but did not go to the playoffs).

Claremont if they make it.   I think LaVerne got in trouble for trashing some rooms or something when they got in last. :(

Well lets get this over with before I have some minor surgery today, I will be at the game Saturday.

My puppies are just not that good and my hats off the Staggs for a solid game plan. I said the SCIAC was a toss up and I was right. If the pups had cleaned up many items below they win, but they did not and did not deserve to win.  Stags did not try to run the ball as I thought (Run defense is the only thing I would say we are good at )  and just picked on the DB's, a theme we will see the rest of the season. Our best defensive player at FS did not play due to a concussion last week against the Regals. Our tackling was pathetic, maybe I should put an F in front of pathetic. If UR tackles decently they win by 14, so many conversions on missed tackles. Horrible job by the pups. The worse tackling I have seen from the puppies in 10 years. Looked like a pop warner team. Really made me puke.

On offense, our freshman center struggled to get the snaps right. Why I don't know ? Qb tried to do too much and cost us a field goal at the end of the half. Look at the score, would have been nice to had that field goal.
Our run blocking was horrible, those young guys have to move their feet. What a concept. Linebackers do not stay still.

Lastly an Old Dog post can not happen with out discussing the referees. A crucial conversion on a third and long game winning drive. The referee in charge of watching the O  linemen turned and spun around, called targeting in front of three others that kept their hankies in their pockets. It looked like the player hit him in the shoulder pads with his shoulder, clearly did not aim for neck or head. SCIAC brain trust will watch the tape and determine of they got the call right and/or the player can play the entire game next week. I love when the refs make themselves part of the game. Either way it was close call, I think the flag came out because the hit rocked the WR and he dropped the ball.

talk to you all soon.

Just a sad state the program is in right now, mediocre at best.
