The puppies need to be put back in their pens. Turnovers (5) and four crucial unsportsmanlike penalties, left this  old guy embarrassed. Worse UR performance I have seen in years. Ugly boys, quit putting yourself above the team. Coach Maynard will need some sole searching on what type of characters he wants in his program.

I could be mistaken, but I do not believe Coach Maynard has ever had a 3-6 season at Redlands. So hey!! you underperforming, mediocre puppies, listen up. How about you not suck on Saturday and get a win to avoid being the worst Redlands team in the Maynard era. There are no more participation trophies, or bubble wrap to protect you, time to be men and not little boys playing dress up with football pads.

Signed,

Disappointed Alumnus
You are correct:  several 4-5 seasons but nothing worse http://www.goredlands.com/sports/fball/Records/coaching_records

Jellerson? He was forced out because Stratton and Clark told Coleman (the ad) that Jellerson called Coleman's wife a fat f##king pig..which was untrue. But instead of confronting
Jellerson, he launched an "internal" investagation, without Jellerson's knowledge and only spoke to two disgruntled coaches..Statton and Clark (two coaches Jellerson wanted to get rid of) and a couple of disgruntled players..and that's how Coleman and why he fired Jellerson..Whittier always kept it hush hush because Coleman didn't want his wife embarrassed. And your right old dawg Jellerson did bring in darn good players and left Stratton with 90 plus players.
Now the last 2 or 3 years an average of 50? Fear the Poet?
2012 4-5
2013 1-8
2014 2-7
2015 0-8 and one of the worst football teams in the entire country! Looks like Coleman and Strattons chickens came home to roost!
I can verify this. I heard a similar story for someone inside that program.  To much drama for me.

Poet,

I can tell you what happen in a nutshell.

UR, was marginal at best this year playing a ton of younger guys who have not started. Injury bug hit them early, and the scales are tipped slightly. Some games they started third stringers. If the injury bug does not hit UR, they squeak past LV and CMS. UR returns about 18 guys who have started over five game this season. Other than loosing their QB, good RB and senior offensive guard, the entire team is back if the best defensive player at FS who has missed LV and CMS game, they squeak past them due to horrible DB tackling. If he plays maybe we win both. He is a maybe on coming back for his last year. However with that said above they are only a top 40 team next year unless a miracle shows up in the O line and at QB.

La Verne has a ton of seniors, and they happen to be their best players. They have gotten enough out of their O line and D line to win this year given the conference is down. Coaches have done a good job this season.

CMS returned 21 out of 22 starters, and some of those kids can really play. They are doing a real good job at CMS, but lack depth. So this could be their best finish in a long time.

Whittier, I don't know what Jellerson did ?but they have not been the same since the kids he brought in.

Oxy is Oxy, will get some players but tough academics hinder depth.

Pomona, some day everyone in the conference will be working for those guys.

Cal Lu, I think they have always been tilted toward being good via a few transfers, the ones they have gotten recently have not been as good as the past or quit on Coach Mac. Up front on the O line they have not been as good as in the past, and have not had the stud DT and corners as in the past.

Chapman, they lost some key seniors, lack of depth similar to Oxy's reasons showing up. The replacement linemen/TE up front are not the quality as last year and their QB proved to be the glue. Chapman had a lot of season starters back like LV this year.

So you get a good group of seniors at LV, they get hot and confident...wella they pull off the league championship. Good for them it is nice to see teams rise up, keeps it fun.

Leo, so read the last line, sour grapes at my age....come on man.....The program I probably know the second most about in the conference is the Leo's. If I ever wanted any team to win it other than the UR...it would be the Leos. Trust me many Leos did not know how the playoffs even worked!...I have known many in that program for a long time.

Congrats to ULV and that coaching staff for their first playoff birth since '94. I think we all know, and they all know that challenge ahead in the postseason, but it's been a fun ride, anything else is gravy.

Congrats to La Verne! I played against them when they had their run in the 1990's, they were extremely talented. The 1995 9-0 team in my opinion was the best SCIAC team in the last 25 years, it was a shame they did not make the field of 16 that year. I personally feel they could have made a deep run in the playoffs, if not win it all, they were stacked at every position with size and speed.

But they have themselves to blame for that, they created a bad reputation for themselves by trashing hotel rooms during the 1994 playoff loss to St. Johns. It felt really good to end their streak at ULV in OT (1996) on the last game of the season and my playing career at Redlands for the SCIAC title. Hopefully they can keep improving and not take another 20 years to repeat success. Good luck in the playoffs, you will need it.

SCIAC RECAP....

The Puppies versus the Tigers. Any logical football analyst would pick the Tigers, but I am loyal so I am picking the Pups. Word is Maynard has been busting balls all week. So the Pups either roll over for a belly rub or come out like Pit Bulls. I think the Pups will try to run the ball on Oxy...if they have some success they will win. The Tiger are going to run Do 35 times, they will mirror LV and Chapman's game plan. I will be curious is the 22 pups decide to man up just out of pride.

Chapman versus the Poets. No doubt who win, only guess by 40,50,60....The real question is will Chapman' stud running back play after getting dumped on his head,  in the third quarter. He never returned, the young mans health is more important than records. He is a fine young man, based on personal experience.

The Leo's versus the Regals. I think coach Mac is going to have the Regals ready, just a hunch. The Leo's can space in games they think they should win,  such as first half of Whittier and CMS game. It will be a real gut check for the Regals, I am going to play my hunch and go with the Regals in this one.

I would like to say it has been a fun season, but not really after witnessing UR play like Pups. However hats off to the Leo's for the championship. I know they worked real hard in the offseason, committed senior class. Cheers...

It's a total embarrassment that they renamed that game, really takes away from the rivalry in my opinion.

Of course they renamed it, don't want to offend the coddled children running amok on college campuses today now do we?

SCIAC trivia.
Please. do tell us more.
6th St.?

The teams previously played for the "Peace Pipe", but this was discontinued a couple years ago over concerns about appropriation and stereotyping native american culture.

The "Sixth Street Showdown," or whatever the hell they're calling it these days, is a reference to the street that both stadiums are located on. Merritt Field (Pomona's field) is on the South side of the street, CMS's field is about a block east on the north side of the street.

D O.C.

Thank-you.
PC and I have both been on that street.

I'm going to the new Quiet Space at CMS now to contemplate it all.

I don't know about any of that alleged drama at Whittier. All I know is that Coleman, Rizzo and the gang treated my son and family incredibly well and we are thankful. His last year was the 4-5 2012 year, after taking a few years off. He played under Hammer in 2007 and 2008 and came back in 2012.

Got my trip booked for Minneapolis. As I said earlier just going to enjoy the ride as long as it lasts.

D O.C.

Go get 'em Leos.

Perhaps a couple rides up the My. Baldy lift will put some color in the team's cheeks preparing for St. Paul.

One play at a time.
