Pat Coleman

You probably could find his number and other roster specifics by looking up Occidental's roster. That would be faster than asking the question on this board ... twice ...

DGD...

Collins is pretty good.  I don't know what his numbers were for the season but I don't know how representative the Linfield games are.  He is elusive and pretty strong.  Most if not all of the big runs he had were on plays where protection broke down or receivers were covered and he just made something happen.  When he did have time everybody but Jones was covered.

By the way, the highlights were from this years playoffs.

When Andy Collins '07 went out for high school football, he didn't plan on being a quarterback. A football player since signing up for Grid Kids as a third grader, he was always one of the bigger kids and was used to playing defensive line and tight end.

"The high school team didn't have a quarterback in my class, and the coach asked if I would try it," says Andy, who grew up in Zillah, Washington. "It took a while to get used to the position, but I think it grew on me a little."

Playing quarterback has turned out to be a perfect fit. Named SCIAC Offensive Player of the year for the second time, Andy ranked ninth in NCAA Division III passing efficiency, sixth in total yardage, and directed an offense that scored 39.2 points a game in 2005. With Andy at the helm, the Tigers are currently sporting a 17-game regular season winning streak, which dates back to the second game of the 2004 season.

Before transferring to Occidental, Andy was a Division I football player at the University of Oregon. When his coaches wanted him to shift to defense, he took a year off from sports to consider his future as a student and athlete.  Andy decided he wasn't ready to give up football, and that he wanted to attend a small school in an urban location with a good academic reputation.  He found the right combination at Occidental.

"For the players here, football isn't life," says Andy, a sociology major and kinesiology minor, and a member of the Newman Center and Student Athletic Advisory Committee.  "It's something we all love, but most likely we're going to end up doing something else as a career. I really appreciate the fact that our head coach stresses academics and all the coaches are more than willing to accommodate you if you have a class or lab that runs late."

Andy's football education continues too, both on and off the field. During the season he meets several times a week with the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach. "There is a lot more that goes into being a quarterback than athletic ability. Even at the Division III level, the game is fast and complex. You need to understand the X's and O's, because as a quarterback you're also a coach on the field."

Thanks downtown...I realize that it is a Linfield highlite film and without seeing the balance of the game it is impossible to tell how good he is.

I did look at the Oxy site and his stats are very impressive.
Are there any Oxy high lites on him, I sure would like to see him in action.  From what I read and have heard, he is outstanding.

Thanks tooth, what a great article on what appears to be a kid with his head on straight and his future in his own hands.

You'll get to see him on October 7 . . . I hope you enjoy the show . . .  ;D

No insult intended, but is he really AA material?  Is he one of the best in d3?

The last three years Linfield has had a quarterback who has earned 1st Team AA recognition (Matthews and Elliott twice).  After seeing both of them play Collins is definitely good enough.  Like I said earlier, it will depend on the success of the team.  It's tough to get recognition if you aren't seen.

tooth....I  posted earlier that I was from the Thousand Oaks area.  My daughter went to Louisville High school in Woodland Hills and was a cheerleader for Crespi hs, where the Qb I have been talking about started for 2 years.  That is how I am familiar with him.  I actually live about a mile from CLU.

RFB,  thanks that video is really great...made me want to play football again......do they post video from each game on the tube website?

RFB

They have not in the past but could be a possibility in the future if they have the staff and resources to put it together.

Redlands Recuitment Video. Good stuff!!

Not a bad video.  Was that you playing QB in the black and white footage? ;)

One mistake though...they spelled Gagliardi, Galiardi.  Someone might want to fix that before next year.  Fortunately not many high school recruits know who that is.
