UR filled their opening by hiring Juan Navaro, former player at UR, GA, and JC Head coach among other stops. He served as the D line coach last year and will operate in a similar capacity. Most likely a larger roll on special teams too. Navaro has some talent coming back on the UR d front, with four very seasoned players returning, The d line has to be special next year if they want to get back into the playoff....More on the program changes as things develop, so far some coaches are not back and some players maybe too.

We are supposed to find out in Jan/16 if D3 will go full pads in the spring, if approved many SCIAC teams will be stressed to pull this off, due to the lack of support staff and shared locker rooms, etc....a whole ripple of issue for the SCIAC schools

BJ Hammer named Head Coach of Allegheny College.  Best of luck to Coach Hammer

I mean no disrespect to you or your Poets and you've probably already encountered this but every time I see your log in name it absolutely cracks me up.  The Milwaukee Bucks "Fear the Deer" is funny enough but "Fear the Poet."  That's on a whole different level. Carry on, long live the Poets.

haha, believe me, I laugh at it every day. "We will kill you with our words" ;)

at least our nickname is better than Santa Cruz?...ok it's close

I think Friday is the day they vote at the NCAA D3 convention in San Antonio if D3 has spring football ball in pads. The part I do not understand, they should have another vote if it fails, can the kids use real football hand pads and blocking dummies etc...instead of trash cans. One of the most stupid rules I have ever seen. Personally I have not decided if its necessary or not to be in pads during spring, but no one is asking an old guy on a forum board.

I think one question that comes from this is if the SCIAC will allow it, even if it's passed at a national level.  Nothing in the SCIAC really surprises me, especially since they won't move forward with a 10 game schedule.

Good question, the SCIAC is just weird, between ADs worried about more work, cost, and is it fair for everyone....not the world I live in

SJUrube....don't look at us. Our bucks go to NFL Network.

I do suggest anyone who likes basketball see the Chino Hills High School team this season while they still have four family members playing at the same time.

Let's talk Facilities, becoming a big issue in the SCIAC and as NCAA III sports evolve. Basically many SCIAC schools do not have the facilities to expand or change the way the entire athletics program are ran, some football constraints are:

Football only lockers. I think Chapman is the only school, not sure on CLU or many others
Athlete only weight room. I think Oxy does and Chapman, not sure on the rest, heard CMS will
Spring Football Field Space: CLU, Redlands could figure something out, my guess others may not have room. Maybe CMS could...Whittier, Oxy, LV, Chapman seem tight

On a side note I am sure many SCIAC coaches are concerned how attractive CMS will look to potential athletes after their facility is done.

It will be interesting

Sure hasn't worked for Cal Lu!

Jack,

I think CLU issue are different.

I think loosing their O line coach hurt them until this year when Mac handled the position. There were just not well coach two and three years ago
The transfers have not worked out, in the past they tipped CLU into being good. Not one panned out in my opinion for various reasons.
For some reason CLU decided not to recruiter large classes that has hurt them, kids drop out its D3. UR lost one of it best DB classes last year for various reason all these terrific sophs quit. CLU lost a great Frosh RB due to academics....kids was in the class of great backs this season
I think the SCIAC caught up to CLU too
Lastly, the margin of being a champ and their run was thin , how soon we forget a couple field goals go UR's way and that two conference titles recently are UR's.

Vote for pads in spring failed, schools that don't play football voted. Over 150 of the football schools wanted.

I could care less about spring football. What does matter, at least for Redlands, can they get better players through the door? If that doesn't change, no amount of off season practice will make a difference.
