Eye of da TIGER

Hey Tooth,

I saw that you posted on the NWC board about the SCIAC limiting its members to only 9 games, do you have any idea why this is? I mean its standard to play 10 games in high school so why not college?  I thought it was bizarre when i came to Oxy and found out we only played 9 games.  Just think about what we could do with one more game.......... we would probably schedule Linfield, or maybe just play Lewis and Clark twice!!!  ;) Haha
4 is the smallest composite number, its proper divisors being 1 and 2. 4 is the smallest squared prime. 4 is the only number in the English language for which the number of letters in its name is equal to the number itself. 4 is also the number of titles in a row the tigers will have in '07!! Go Oxy

Rockcat,

As for why all at once . . . this may well have to do with the planning process.  Getting through the city with design and construction approval can be arduous.  If it is not all approved through a long term master plan, then it makes sense to do a lot of it all at once.  It is much more efficient and the institution is much more likely to get approval.  Also much more efficient (cost efficient) to do a lot of the work at one time.

That makes sense.  I was just thinking of the how much it would cost to do all of that at once.  I know most liberal arts colleges don't have that kind of money unless they either take out a bond or get a huge gift.

I think the decision to limit the schedule to 9 games is controlled by the presidents of all of the conference schools.  One big factor (I'm guessing) is that one more game would be a fairly large budget issue as it would be another travel game every other year.  I'm pretty sure that academics plays a factor as well . . . but all of this is speculation on my part.  Coach Widolff might have some insight he'd be willing to share.

Not to change the subject but ......as to last years Oxy-Redlands game, from reading the board, it sounded like everyone was saying it really wasnt that close.  Here is what d3football.com said about the game......

"With 1:39 left, Redlands mounted a last-ditch comeback attempt, completing three passes for first-down yardage to Alex Ballard to the Oxy 18. But Saras' next two passes fell incomplete and a 3rd and 15 attempt landed just beyond the outstretched arms of a wide-open Ballard in the back of the end zone".

I ddidn't see the game, I dont know how accurate this rendition is but....it sounds like the Redlands qb simply overthrew a wide open receiver in the end zone and, had he completed the pass, for a td, Redlands wuld have won!  Am I missing something?  Was it that close?  If it was then I would expect a real barn burner this year.

Eye of da TIGER

You are right about one thing, the game was definitely pretty close, and the ending was very exciting for fans and very gut wrenching for players.  Although if Redlands would have scored, they wouldnt have won and instead the game would have been tied.  Oxy would have had the ball back with a chance to score or it would have gone to into OT!!! Anyhow the Redlands/Oxy game have been competitive as of late, living up to the billing as the showdown for the conference championship!!!

As for what will happen in the SCIAC this year . . . we'll find out when the boys take the field.  Frankly, I thought Redlands was a much better team than Cal Lu last year, I was stunned when the Bulldogs lost to the Kingsmen . . . I'd have to guess that it was a mental letdown by the 'Dogs following their hard fought loss to Oxy.  Redlands certainly played Oxy a lot tougher than Cal Lu did last year.

DGD:  Redlands gave Oxy a tough game last year . . . it was the Bulldog's loss to Cal Lutheran the following week that was the oddity.  Oxy beat Cal Lu 41-9 last year.  I think the expectation was that Redlands would drub the Kingsmen . . . didn't happen.

And that my friends........as the old saying goes........Is why they play the games on Saturday!

The d3football site has many areas that just take time to find....some of the locations within the site could be labeled better.  For instance, post patterns, when I first got on the site, I had no clue that it was a message board.......it makes sense after you explore it but......so I keep looking for new info every day...it really is a great site and I bet it gets  much better when the season starts.

Is the preview section the previews provided by each school or does the d3 staff do their own preseason previews?

dgd,
I have posted for several years now.  I started out just trying to get SCIAC scores here in Dallas.  They don't even make the late scores in the Monday papers.

It was several weeks or months before I explored enough of this site to find post patterns.  You are correct.  Pat could present it differently on the home page.  Then again, if all the discussions were like those on the MIAC board, he might actually want to hide it. ;)

By the way, I understand the season preview for Trinity has been posted on their team page.  Something more for you to read.

Looks like Trinity was another heartbreaking loss for the dawgs...from the two losses, Trinity and Oxy, it looks like their qb coudn't finish off the game!  I know it was different guys but neither got the job done.

Looks like they were a few plays and one bad game, CLU,  away from a real good season.

Pat,
I was referring to El Tea Gray's comment on the SCAC board earlier today.

Think of the MIAC board as a community - a pub if you will.  When it's not football season, they talk about other things.  From what I've seen, there's not a mean bone in their bodies - unless you're from Bethel.  :D

Sure. I was referring to the dawgs gone deep post that I quoted in mine. :)
