Good start for Redlands and La Verne, will be interesting to see how the rest of the SCIAC does this coming weekend. Cal Lu might beat PLU but the entire Athletics Department is 0-1 with the god-awful new logo the school introduced. It blows my mind that they would spend a lot of money to come up with that hot steaming pile of garbage.

Agreed. It's not bad, but certainly is not good either. I'm curious what the other options were for consideration.

Cal Lu's Marketing Department takes a major L on that one, Jesus.
In other news, Chapman spent this week preparing for their home opener next Saturday. Should be a fun contest with a lot of new faces. Expect Ernie Stadium to be packed opening night with a ton of energy. Not sure what the away stands will look like considering the construction is still in progress, may be some tight seating for fans on the home side. I am hoping the athletic department opens up both end-zones considering the likely attendance will be 4K-5K if not more.

The Cal Lu shield logo looks like it is unbalanced or missing an element.  Or maybe it's one of those things where if you stare at it long enough, the hidden detail jumps out at you.

It looks like something a kid makes on a video game.  Taking the U out of CLU is just dumb in my mind.  Looking all over the website (sports and school) shows both calling it California Lutheran University and just plain Cal Lutheran.  Maybe it's a full transition period but I think it stinks.  That shield logo looks like something that should be reserved for an online college/university.

I have been gone for a few days, I watched the game on the Web and could not get to the Runner.

The Good,

Defense: Looked quicker than last year... based on this game my expectation is higher than last years defense.
D-Line, looks like a couple kids put some size on and got better, a nice transfer and true frosh that can help them. I am still concerned but not as much as the pre-season. Linebackers look real strong, teams are avoiding POY Sheppard. Well coached group, looks like 5 guys can play.
DB, similar to the D line, showed depth, can press the cover a bit, more options for Coach M, even though he loves playing base D. It will help against Regals. Blitz well against the over weight Trinity line.

The So So.
Offense could not finish and I did not like the play calls. We need to set up our plays better, from the previous call and execute,...Lack of Execution is what led to so many field goals.
I was disappoint our O line did not knock folks back better. I am sure Coach L has set aside some sled time this week. Stay on your block and drive fellas.
WR looked pretty good and showed better depth. A couple freshman from last year are better and a transfer has added depth. Bright spot like the D line.

Kicking Game...Wow, crazy weapon...the kid is a better kicker than USC or UCLA have...just nuts How some kids end up at D3, if he is consistent this season he will get invited to pro tryouts. I will pay better attention to his timing to the ball and discuss this issue a little more in the future. Keep an eye on him. Old Dog was an kicker, back in the day when kickers were football players too.

Solid test up in Oregon, Maynard gets two weeks to prepare for the Foxies. Maynard says a team makes the most improvement from game 1 to game 2. UR has always been a slow starter on the road, lets see if the coaches can coach up this team for four quarters. UR is not good enough to beat GF is they do not play well in the first half.

I really do not like be ranked #20, now even a bigger target on your back and you have won one game. I guess playing MHB tough in the playoffs carried over with the voters.
Less than two more years of Gavin.

Cal Lu might beat PLU but the entire Athletics Department is 0-1 with the god-awful new logo the school introduced. It blows my mind that they would spend a lot of money to come up with that hot steaming pile of garbage.

"A "U" inside the logo is not needed to confer prestige to a school or athletics program – Notre Dame and University of Southern California are examples of prestigious athletics programs that don't include a "U" in their athletics logos."

My opinion is that this information is a bunch of crap.  Notre Dame and USC both have the the word University in the beginning of their name, not the end like CLU.  If that is their reasoning, why not keep the interlocking CLU and just drop the U?  I am partial to the old block CLU that was there before they turned it into the bubble CLU.

Oh well, not much else can be done about this but I know there are plenty of people within the CLU community that share my opinion.

Then there are schools which for some weird reason only have a U.

After seeing what Whitworth did to Central at Pella, I feared it might have gone far worse for Whittier on the road...the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step (or small lurch forward, even).
