I guess I left myself wide open on that one! :D  Thanks for not making all the nasty remarks that could have been made.  However, at $40 k per year....never mind. ;D

If I had karma to give, you both would get some! ;)

dgd, did you ever see Russell White play at Crespi?  He was electric.

I saw him play against Servite in the playoffs.  The Servite back was better.  He ended up at Nebraska.  Sorry, but I forgot his name.

Don't worry  ... you will have four years to complain about paying 40K a year I sure know my parents and I did, but when it is all said and done I am glad that I can honestly say that I have the most expensive paper I will ever own.  I mean who ever thought I would pay $160,000 for a piece of paper ... lol!  Well  The only thin I am happy about is that I got out of oxy before they jacked up the price to cover the cost of the new dorm they are building.

As I remember, wasn't his last name Brown?  I saw Servite play Loyola the same year, and he ran 10 yards faster than I've ever seen anyone else run; just amazing acceleration.  It was a great year for running backs in SoCal.

I remember the Servite kid...no way was he as good as White.  Did you know that his sr. year at Cal he finished second in the heisman voting?  He then went on to play for the Rams and barring injury, he would have been a great one in the NFL.

He is now a football coach of an 8 man team in Palm Desert, also the AD there.

I was referring to the game I saw them both play.  Brown wanted it more.  I had ben hearing about White for three years and hadn't seen him play.  I was very surprised when I saw Brown play.. I hadn't heard of him before that.

BTW, it's Derek Brown.  According to the info I googled, he went to play for the Saints.

Brown was a very good one. I didnt know that he played for the Saints.  Russell held the Ca. hs rushing record for many, many years.  Keep in mind that he did it against the toughest competition in So Cal at the time and, that he usually only played half the game.  I attended his induction into the Crespi Hall of Fame a couple of years ago and his hs coach, Bill Redell, now the coach At Oaks Christian, said that he was the greatest hs football player he had ever seen. He also said that Russell usually played only in the first half.  He scored so frequently in his per carry ratio that he got himself taken out of games because the score was a blowout.

Maybe we can get him to be a coach at Redlands since he is so close! ;)

firstdown

TMERTON - I hate to burst your bubble, but the ND player's foot was on the out of bounds line on that fourth down play.  Had there been instant replay in those days, the play would have been incomplete and the ball gone over to Bama who should have rightly won that Sugar Bowl!

Thanks heaven for instant replay - not even "Touchdown Jesus" would have called him in bounds had the play been sugject to replay.

Sorry firstdown....Ive seen that film from every angle possible and the refs would have had to call it a TD because there would not have been irrefutable evidence to overrule the call!  and Jesus had nothing to do with it, it was all TC baby!!!!!! One of greatest Qb's ever to play at ND!!!!

Even if he is a good friend! ;)

And there was no holding in the 1964 SC game, and the SC tailback "scored" without the football in 1976, and Paul McDonald actually fumbled in the 1978 game, and the tight end was actually inbounds in the 1986 Michigan game.  Had those calls gone the other way, ND wins, but they didn't and all those games are Notre Dame losses.   Just as the Sugar Bowl was a loss for Alabama that year, part of Bear's 0-3 record against the Irish.  The answer to you is "scoreboard."

Apologies to the board for cluttering it up with this D1 stuff.

I'll bring it back to DIII and the SCIAC, maybe spark some conversation, as Im already tired at work.  Who does everyone see taking the Defensive Player of the Year in the SCIAC this year, as graduation has finally ended Mike Bryant's three year reign on top!!! I figure the Offensive Player of the Year will go to Andy Collins for the 3rd year in a row, but the Defensive Player is up in the air.  Here are my two nominations:

Anthony Ostnald, Oxy:  I think Oz is more than ready to come out of Mike Bryant's shadow and return to his freshman year form, in which he had something like 16 sacks as an OLB.  He will play like a man on a mission and demand the respect he deserves!!!

Matt Barbour, Pomona: Since i played WR and not slot, i never had the opportunity to block or even get tackled by this guy, but I have seen first hand what he can do. The dude had like 102 tackles last year, so he is probably one of the front runners for the award this year!!!
4 is the smallest composite number, its proper divisors being 1 and 2. 4 is the smallest squared prime. 4 is the only number in the English language for which the number of letters in its name is equal to the number itself. 4 is also the number of titles in a row the tigers will have in '07!! Go Oxy

Oxy,   I hope your time on the board isnt cutting into your billable hours!!!!!!!

I know how those senior partners can be soooooo greedy!

What about Brad Smith the safety at Redlands? I thought he was highly rated also.  does he have a chance?
