I was on an trip to Seattle with my wife, and I saw Oxy cancelled their game, and felt a knot in my stomach.

Not just for the Oxy players, and the Oxy alumni, but for the league and their opponents. Just awful. You only get so many chances to play football - and unlike most other college sports there's not leagues or pick-up games you can join after you graduate. I know rugby is a choice for some, and flag football for others, but it's not the same, is it?

Along with Lewis & Clark dropping football in 2005 four games in, the NCAC had Oberlin (in 1999) and Kenyon (in 2003) dropped NCAC play mainly so Wittenberg wouldn't roll a million points on them. Macalester dropped out of the MIAC to stop being a punching bag for the Johnnies, Tommies, and the rest.

Three of the schools have come back, and hopefully on solid ground. Oberlin and Kenyon will never back football like Wittenberg, but they're putting money into athletics and wellness facilities and at least are competitive on occasion. L&C is still a mess but they were 7-2 in 2011. Macalester found another league to welcome them, and they made the playoffs a few years back.

There's hope for Oxy, if they choose to have hope. Do they have the fortitude?

I hate to say this but Oxy, your football program is being ham-stringed by design, look at the schools social media.. it's filled with all other sports and not ONE mention of football. You have a homecoming approaching, A scheduled game (before friday) and such and what is on social media? Soccer, Volleyball and Cross-country, I thought they decided to call the homecoming game at the last minute, seems to me I would see pre homecoming social media touting the upcoming homecoming game. ... what is missing? Football ...period.. from the month of September there is ZERO mention of football, like it does not even exist except for the cancelled game...check it out, if this is a program you would have thought you post games on social media ahead of the event, it did for all others...
Point is they want this to die in my opinion, the AD can point to the roster and say see, not enough interest and the president can say see not enough interest. And now for 2018, who is going to schedule this team? I sure would not, I would not waste one of my pre season games on them.

We made this same point on the podcast this week. They're in a precarious situation in terms of finding games, I'd guess. Looks like they should have Pacific for another year -- assuming Pacific doesn't have the ability and desire to break the contract. But Puget Sound, their other Week 1 opponent, is on our Open Dates board looking for games and that makes sense to me. You want to play someone who will show up.

There is no way Puget Sound will walk away from a game they think is a sure win.  I can see Pacific trying to find another game but not UPS.

It's a sure win, yes. But is it a sure game? UPS would have to go down there next year if they continued the contract and who wants to be left high and dry the day before a trip of that distance?

What a disappointed UR has been this season with a better team on paper than last year. I guess heart is not a tangible one can measure some times.  Coach Owens found the big hole and took major advantage of it. Basically CU found our corner and threw on him to death, like 15 times, it was like watching a slow death. He made CU QB and WR look like All Americans. Our DC went to his four man front and did a decent job of stopping the run, but wow why you left that corner with no help over the top after he had given up two big plays is beyond me. Make someone else make a play, roll the coverage into him, bring the safety over the top, try a two deep,  do something. Grade D-

Our Preseason AA kicker misses 9 points early in the game and now the Panthers are loose and rolling. Forcing very favorable down and distance for CU and predictable plays by UR.

Offense: Explain to me why #1 is now at WR instead of RB. They did not play that poorly but it takes 30 points to beat CU at CU...We could got away from zone read cut back and I am not sure why.

All in All it was just gross to watch CU outplay UR when I think UR has better players. I am sure Film is no fun today but who drills down on the coaching staff too. CU was ready, UR was not. CU wins fair and square, good job. Season over boys.

Cru, have you ever met folks like the AD and Pres at a liberal Arts college in CA? I had a brief encounter with the AD a few years back, not a typical AD. This is the same school that let protesters stay in the presidents office and protest, while they ordered Starbucks. More nuts there than the bulk section at Whole Foods.

I doubt anyone associated with UMHB can relate to anything that you mention in reference to Oxy - unless they've been a part of some other institution of high learning. With rare exception, we tend to be a tad on the conservative side of things here in Texas and definitely all in when it comes to football.
