UR, This team is not as good as last year and I think Regals and Panthers are better than last year. The loss of a couple senior DB's was greater than I realized plus a starter decided not to play this year, forcing coaches to rotate some players into spots that obviously were not ready. Once everyone figured out to stay away from our stud db Gonzales, coupled by the O line has been disappointing and now with many injuries, UR will come up short.

I do not understand why CMS got away from going to the TE, and tried to run the ball on UR and in the wildcat so DB did not have to worry about run. Nice waste of downs CMS. Thanks coach...

I am no expert on football, but one thing I do know and have said repeatedly (including to wildcat11 and Gig Harbor Cat), the tight end is always open on every play. Didn't Shannon Sharpe get into Canton by doing 8-yard button hooks over and over?

Fear the Poet 63

My youngest is a senior at HSU and played his freshman year. It's a wonderful program and seemed to me to have quite abit of local support, but the financial part of it makes sense. Its just a shame to see such a long running program fold. The team is very good btw and has been under Coach Smith for awhile.

They should be good when they are the only D2 team in Norcal and only state college playing football in a very expensive state, much like the advantage the State schools have in D3. They could recruit kids from CA that can't afford to play D3 or NAIA (Menlo) at the time.

Oxy Fans,

See, even the NFL can struggle with injuries.

Difference being that an NFL team can activate players from the practice squad, sign free agents, sign former players from the broadcast booth...

Oxy better plan on returning The Shoes to Whittier this weekend.

Unwillingness to defend should be treated the same as inability to defend (a loss on the field).

This is not like there were some natural disaster, or world war, or other unforeseen event that affects both squads' ability to field a team.

The weird outlier to this is the University of San Diego as a D1 Non-Scholarship.

In a typical year, they play D2 schools (usually win but don't necessarily dominate), D1 FCS (rarely win, usually dominated), and the odd D1 game like when SDSU plays them, which USD almost never wins.

Otherwise they play in the Pioneer league which is nationwide (CA, IA, FL, CT, KY, IN, NC).  Their travel budget must be ridiculous.

I believe that UMU, UMHB, Top 2-3 WIAC, St. Thomas, and probably Linfield would beat the Toreros in most years.  In fact, I would see USD as being a top 8-20 team annually with some years pushing higher.  They would hammer the SCIAC.

University of San Diego is private - not public.
