Its fun to give you a hard time because I know you can take it.

In the northwest they have a beer called Schmidt.  It is Hamm'sesque, complete with a scenic nature scene on the can.  A case of Schmidt is cheaper than a case of water.

I hope nobody ever thinks I am full of Schmidt.  :)

I hope we aren't turning this into the MIAC board.

He said that he is just a beast when he runs the ball and very hard to bring down.  He also said that he is an outstanding passer.  Congrats to Collins on such a great accomplishment.

DGD,
You will have a chance to see him in action when oxy travels to Redlands on October 7th!  I know for a fact that Andy loves to run the ball is not afraid to take a hit.  In the 2003 season we had Mr. Elway (nephew to the one and only) the kid was good, but he was only 6' tall 185 lbs.  He could hardly see over his O-line, which had an average weight of 305lbs and height of 6'5".  I was so scared the first time Andy took a real good hit the second game in 2004.  Ran over to see if he was alright and he turned to the kid and said, "you call that a hit!"  I knew from then on he was a solid player.  In the 2005 season Andy work really hard on staying in the pocket and not running the ball like he did in 2004.  Some of it was due to pressure put on him by the coaches, but some of it was also he had a great receiving core.  I think because this is Andy's last collegiate season he might just show us everything he has.  Running and passing all over the field!

PineconeFan,

The Redlands season previews every year, for lack of a better term, SUCK.   They consistently try to name everybody on the team to make people feel good about themselves, I suppose.  I quit reading them because they never provide any substantive information on what to expect from the team or analysis.  I'm pretty sure they get students who don't watch football (re:chicks) to write it.  "Contributions" could mean anything from a FROSH holding a bag to running for 8000 yards in a season.   They have no idea what's going on.

By the way, the captains have been named, and they are touting an OL who had 25 pancakes over a 2 year span?  I have to say, that's not very impressive.  As a former UR lineman, that's pretty weak.  You have to wonder why a QB or an MLB isn't getting pub as a captain.

I'm out!

El Tigre...in 2004 what was really scary as a football fan was to watch OXYCollins take off down your sideline at night with your black uniforms on. No telling where he would come out. The fans missed much of the action.
I'm anxious to view the new lights.

You'd be surprised how many pissed-off parents will make their voices heard to the football coach and his bosses if their son isn't mentioned in a preview.

They pay to play.  It's the least they can expect.

Gray,

I respectfully disagree.  While that sentiment may change when I have kids, they pay to go to school, not to play football.  The program does not owe them anything in that regard.  My point was more a criticism that the preview's lack any real thought and analysis on the program.  Getting every player recognition can be done, and is.  They get their face in the program, and it would be more effective to have a section highlighting the new faces on their own other than "Joe Blow will add depth to the Scout Team."  But I understand your point.  I think it detracts from the contributors on the team to list every individual.

I was comparing D3 to scholarship schools where maybe players don't get the same recognition unless they are stars.

I think the player must earn the good ink.  Merely being on the team doesnt qualify getting mentioned in a review, getting playing time or any other type of recognition.  Earn it and deserve it, then you get it.  Can you tell Im old school?

I would have to agree, but while the new lights not fix the problem they definitely make it 100 times easier to see the field.  I will have the honor of being able to watch this season from an alumni view and to be honest I am quite sad about it, but at least I will have Eye and Oswald there to share a beer with me.  I know everyone else on here is just as exited about this season as I am.  All the SCIAC teams have stepped it up a notch and I am sure every game will be interesting game.

Just a side not I hear through the grape vine that Bill Dobson will be coaching the Offensive line for the tigers.  Bill Dobson graduated in '82 and has been around the program ever since.  He has switched back and forth between O-line coach and offensive coordinator.  He has also been the coach of the offensive line for the Los Angeles the last five seasons.  I know him personally and if it is true that he is coming back to his alma mater then I am sure the offensive line will be more than ready come September 9th!

The new lights in the Rock with definitely be welcomed, especially by the wideouts!!! Come October/November when the Rock gets foggy at night, there was nothing harder than picking up the ball out of the QB's hand with Oxy's excuse for lights!!! With the fog and poor lighting, it was like playing catch in the dark sometimes.

Haha talking like a true wideout, dropped passes are never our fault............ but its true!!! ;D
4 is the smallest composite number, its proper divisors being 1 and 2. 4 is the smallest squared prime. 4 is the only number in the English language for which the number of letters in its name is equal to the number itself. 4 is also the number of titles in a row the tigers will have in '07!! PC,

For the love of god if a parent ever calls the SID or Coach to cry about their child not being mention in a season preview then their son/daughter needs to turn in their "I'm A College Athlete" card.  Your kid at this point is a young ADULT.

The worst thing that could ever happen to College sports is for the "mommy and daddy" squeaky wheel game starting to creep into small college sports.  This has already killed the joy from most high school sports.

BTW:  F.W. better be the next B.E. or someone on this board is going to never hear the end of it..
