Not a big fan of Crespi football, so I'll have to wait and see how the Div. X 'champs' do in the reconfigured leagues before I sing the praises of how their program has turned around.  Sorry dgd, it seems we just don't agree on much.   :-\

its ok Oxy..we dont have to.  Isnt that what this board is all about?

As to the Celts..............in 2004 they had St. Bonnie (#1 team in the st) beat.  They had the ball on the Bonnie 6 yd line, down by 2 points with 60 seconds to go.  Instead of just kicking the fg, they ran two sweeps that lost 13 yds.  they also lost to Birmingham on the last play of the game.  They can compete.   Last yeart they lost to the top two teams in the state. Both years they were led by you know who! ;) ;) ;D

Aloha my bruddah!!!!! off to mai-tai land!

We also apparently have different opinions on the definition of having a team "beat" and being "down by two points"   :D

Oxy...all they had to do was kick the equivilent of an extra point to win.  The game was at Bonnie! They had no time outs...Crespi had two.  Bad decision by the staff.

You must of played for one of those teams Crespi beat regularly. ;) ;) ;)

CA football doesn't have an official state ranking system dgd, and if they did I'm pretty sure that St. Bonaventure would not be #1 in the state over perennial powerhouse schools like Mater Dei, De La Salle, LB Poly, etc.  When it comes down to it, the Crespi teams of the last couple years have been a big fish in a small pond.  Div-X football isnt all that great and the jump to D-1 is pretty big.  I'm pretty sure that they won't be winning a Div-1 championship anytime soon, unless your boy comes back for a fifth year at QB...

Well Leo, Bonnie was in 2004 ..voted by calhi sports...I know all about the fact that there has not been a playoff systems up until this year.....it may be a mythical title but ...it was their title.

As to DX football...for the most part you are right.  However, the top teams in DX can compete with anyone, last year Crespi, and Lompoc , Serra, N Torrnace and a few others were very good teams.  The problem the smaller schools have is debth.  If they lose a key guy, there can be a big drop off.  On a one game basis, they can compete, but when they have to play the bigger schools week in and out, injuries can come into play and that is a problem. The other teams in DX are not very good, that I agree with.  If you check Crespi's schedule for the last two years you will see that the preseason schedule is one of the toughest around.

Last year Crespi had 3 kids get D1 offers and 4 more go to smaller schools.  Thats pretty good for a school of 450 boys.

Yes, I am a Crespi fan.  I love the tough style of football they play.

I call a spade a spade.  The program needs to be better, and there was a time when those kinds of ideas would have been considered to be no big deal.  Now we are emphasizing it?  To me it highlights that the program is in a down cycle.  I think RFB would agree that it's a change that we aren't used to, and don't like.  I want better for the program.  Plain and simple.

Dawgs57 has earned his stripes when it comes to Redlands football. I totally back his opinion and right to express it. I really don't feel he was calling out a single player as he was letting off a little steam as to the state of the current Redlands football program. When he and I played, Redlands was on top. Dawgs57 excelled as an offensive linemen on some very good Redlands teams. I can't blame him for trying to hold current Redlands players to the same standards. Basically all I have to say is "Get it Done".

RFB...What do you think of O'Boyle?

From reading the summaries on d3 and the Redlands web site, I got the impression that the Qb Saras cost them at least two games...is that accurate?

DGD,

I have not seen or listened to enough games to evaluate coach O'Boyle. So far I like what he did with the offense last year. Hopefully he has some horses this year to play with. It will be real nice when the Dawgs are back on top, I hope he has a big part in the turnaround this year.

By the way have fun in Maui. Hopefully you will be playing Kapalua or Kaanapalli. Watch those trade winds though, they can make a golf ball do funny things. Talk to you when you get back.

RFB.......THANKS I will...forgot to print the boarding passes SO THE WIFE GOT ME UP.  I saw your post and I agree that dawgs57 has earned his rights.  From talking to him he wants his program to excel and knows what they need to do to do so.  Hard work will always improve any team.

Ive played both courses many times.  I love the Plantation course.  Last year shot 76 from the blues.  I was very proud of myself. Yes the trades can be a killa!!!    Man is it expensive though.  If you are there though you gotta play!  Ever try Makenna?  That is my favorite and isnt priced to badly either.

aloha my bruddah!!!!!    GO DAWGS....GO DEEP MY BRUDDAHS!!!!!

dawgs57

RFB - Thanks.  I just want the best for the Dawgs, and some of us are critical and others are RAH RAH.  Ther's plenty of time for me to get into that.  But to be honest - the last few years have lowered my expectations to where I'm not going to be running my mouth 2 months before the games start.  I will once conference play begins, though.  Especially during CalWho week.  You know how I do....

Dawgs57,

keep in mind that during yoru senior year when we went 5-3 the program was at an all time low during the Maynard regime.  The team had no work ethic, no leadership, and there was no family atmosphere, so from my perspective the program has only gotten better since 2001 in many regards.

dawgs57

I wouldn't call 5-3 an all-time low.  There were 2 conference championships leading into that season, and 2 more to follow.  We finished in 2nd Place that year, in a tough loss to OXY that would have secured 7 conference championships in an 8 year span.  There was 1995 where the program was 4-5, and maybe you forgot about the last 2 years where the team finished 3rd.  So my Senior year is not how you would characterize it.  I'm pretty sure we could have beaten Whitworth that year had it not been for Bin Laden, and we played San Diego VERY close - a game that we had a chance to win.  Oxy was down to the wire and winnable, and CMS was a total breakdown of a team that was incredibly fatigued, and we played VERY undisciplined football.
So I'm not sure I see your point.

My point is more tailored towards the people we had in the program that year (2001).  We had selfish individuals, we had clicks, we had 50% turnout rate to off season workouts, we had guys who never worked out that were very talented...we had it all.  Yes, your right, we went 5-3, but there is no excuse for that team we had to go 5-3.  Maybe we would have beaten Whitworth, but keep in mind they were a playoff team and would have given us a great game.

Also, go ask some of the older bulldogs.  Some say that team in 1995 was one of the most talented teams in the history of Redlands football, and they went 4-5...so you can see how "cancer" on a team can hurt the program as a whole.

The way I view it (because I am still very close with the program) is there is a united team right now.  The reason Redlands had so much success in the 90's and early 2000's was because they were the top dogs.  Every good recruit was going to Redlands, but now other programs have stepped up, and have had some success.  Its just like any business, competition will hurt your product, but lets have a little faith for the program.

dawgs57

I understand your point, but I would hardly classify that as an all-time low.  It was a blip on the radar screen in my opinion.   I really do hope the team is unified.  I want to see The U get back to the top.  It makes this board a heckuva lot more fun.  It's been difficult following the team not only as they have been a little down, but being in Denver.  One of these years I'm going to make the trek back out to catch a game.   I miss the smog, and the amazingly lavish frat houses.

I don't know, I think that the Oxy boys think that the board is plenty fun these days.   ;D
