I think I'm going to declare that a politics-type discussion and out of bounds here. That is not what this board is about.

If you want to talk about the Oxy situation without those terms, go for it.

What's the matter, Pat. Did Starbucks run out of soy for your latte today?

You want to take a legitimate topic for discussion and bring politics into it, which has been a no-go on this board for about a decade. Sorry -- there are plenty of places on the internet you can use those sorts of terms. Not here.

The whole Oxy mess is full of bureaucratic politics. Their former AD lobbed multiple torpedoes into the broadside of the football program, and nearly sunk it. Hell, it's still taking on water with no port in sight. I've been here a long time, and am well past the age to be lectured to by anyone.

I understand you've been here a long time. And I also think you know there is a difference between "bureaucratic politics" and the type of conversation covered by the term you're throwing out here.

No, you cherry pick where you try to censor. That's fine, it's your site. Adios

Oxy Bob,

Were any other coaches fired in the Hoffman era, or just Dave ?

I will say it despite the politics, I think Hoffman was not hired as AD based on merit (interim AD for a little while to in charge of the Dept, with no prior experience in this department) , and this is the fall out when you hire someone who is not capable in all facets of the job, including not being able to separate your personal agenda from being professional.

Lastly, these kinds of legal actions make employers think twice, check think 10 times about hiring the protected class. They are some very unfavorable stats in hiring the protected class, something has to give in the legal system...

I don't know how long you have been around the SCIAC, I have to one degree or another since the 80's...Dave and Hugh Mendez were the first two coaches in the league I ever met.One could argue year in and year out over the past 25 years Oxy and UR were the most respected programs in the League. When one coach goes down over a minor offense, and the agenda was anti football to take him out,...so the topic is very pertinent.

Hi all,

It's been a real long time since I have posted. But be assured that I have been reading and keeping up to date through out the years and have enjoyed all of the post since 09 (specifically on the SCIAC sports boards and some NWC boards)
It has been a trying time at Oxy both in terms of academics and football and can only hope that it gets better.
However, I am very close to taking back my word in wanting to donate for the next three years (my donation has already been taken this year) despite the efforts it took our sinking ship gaining some life.
Heck, sadly Im hoping that my 3 year does not consider going to the Alma mater that his mom and I hold close to our hearts since our times on campus. In any case, I can only hope that the memories of the past, my coaches, my amazing professors that have since retired or soon retiring, coach Newhall, and my pops who just retired from working at Oxy's campus dining for 30 years can still give me the hope in giving back.
Good to hear from all of you.
I'm not sure what you just said, but welcome back and +k

Go CLU
The CLU was always a special one for me.  My father went to CLU and even though I was playing for Oxy, he would dress in purple and sit on the CLU side.  One year he had a sign that read "I have NO son" (all in good fun, of course).
My first game against CLU was this game http://articles.latimes.com/1991-10-26/sports/sp-218_1_cal-lutheran  (read down a bit to get the football story).  I think they were still NAIA at that time
Make no mistake, they will not do well against CLU this week.

Don't give up the faith just yet.  It will be a long climb back for Oxy.  The people on this board will attest to the fact that I have been as down on this program as anyone.  However, now that the cancer has been removed, hopefully things will get better, but it will be a process.  Thank you for your donation to the program.  These coaches and these kids have busted their asses and hopefully they will be rewarded (down the road).
I will never forgive them for what happened to Dale Widolff.  However, this year my daughter started her freshman year at Occidental and I couldn't be happier (at least for now).

You mean that CLU got mad at La Verne and took it out on Oxy?

Now that is an awesome story Oxy, and one that reminds me with my daughter who played at NMSU & I played at UNM. House divided but will never fall. Have to get use to that purple LoL. I haven't been around the SCIAC long, just have talked with coaches at coaches meeting or met a few that actually recruit Arizona. I'm hoping to see more AZ kids at CLU since they only have 5 total AZ athletes on their teams both men's and Women's.
So Oxy, what's your thoughts on this weeks games?
