Yeah I'd like these Linfield guys to set up a book. I'd happily take the Linfield money line if you're gonna make Redlands the favorite.

And while wildcat11 does fantastic work, I have yet to see anything that would lead me to believe this is the BEST Redlands team even in the last 10-15 years. That's not to say they don't appear to be better than the most recent Bulldog iterations, but a Redlands win would be an upset. I think Redlands will play well and if they do win it will be because these two teams are on different trajectories in terms of recent talent/success. One has been getting back on top, the other is losing to Whitworth  :D

"a Redlands win would be an upset."  " if they do win it will be because these two teams are on different trajectories in terms of recent talent/success." Ah...okay

You guys can't have it both ways. If Redlands should be the favorite to beat Linfield (which several are claiming), then the latter comment you criticized (Redlands and Linfield have headed in different directions in the past 3-4 years) has to be true.

2016 and 2017 Linfield teams were not as good as 2014-2015 Linfield teams. 2018 Linfield was worse than either of the teams they fielded the two years prior. This year's team does not look much different from last years team. The Linfield fans on here claiming that they are an underdog to Redlands would lend support to that statement. Are you guys really arguing that Linfield is more competitive nationally now than they were 5 years ago? They've been getting better since 2015? Even WC11 knows that isn't true...

I think the NWC is still better than the SCIAC at the top of the conference. Though I think it is because Whitworth has been steadily getting better since the Tully to Sandberg transition and Linfield is still a better program than the top tier SCIAC programs. Pacific and Fox has some flash in the pan type seasons when maybe more traditionally strong programs like Whitworth and Willamette and even PLU were in ruts, so I'm not as impressed with a win against Fox (for example) as others seem to be. I think Linfield will win. They are well coached and talented enough to make the Redlands QB one dimensional.

Nor can you have it both ways Rat. I just don't think if Redlands wins it's a "huge" upset which has been suggested especially if both teams "trajectory " as you pointed out is going in different directions. Didn't see where anyone was arguing Linfield more competitive since 2015 as you questioned. I don't think Chapman will beat Whitworth tonight either but wouldn't see that as a huge upset either.

Oxy moves to 0*-1 with a close loss to Willamette. I actually watched a good portion of this game and a few things really stuck out...

1- Oxy is trying to be a very physical team but they got hit with a lot of stupid penalties to the tune of 177 yards on 16 penalties.
2- I don't think Oxy will try to run the ball a whole lot as their line just isn't going to push anyone around.  Greaves threw the ball all over the place and had a pretty solid game.
3- Their d-line is pretty small and got pushed around a bit.  One of their ends, #91, was getting pushed all over the place and did nothing but complain to the refs after every play.
4- Cordova looks like a pretty solid player and is going to put up some big numbers if they throw it as much as they did today.
5- One play that definitely didn't go their way was early in the game and it game Willamette their first points.  Read below:

The worst break Oxy had though was a no call on a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Willamette in the second quarter, changing the momentum of the game in the first half. Cordova returned a punt near midfield and appeared to be down before having the ball jarred away by Christian Tovar. Tovar picked up the ball while laying on the ground, but the play was allowed to continue, and he ran half the field for a touchdown. There was some question whether or not Cordova was down before the ball came loose, but replay clearly showed Tovar on the ground with the ball where it should have been whistled dead.

This is exactly what happened and the replay was clear as day.  Really bad break, but I'm not sure a school should be printing this type of stuff in a recap.  I'm no SID, but that's just the way I see it.

Oxy now has a week off before their next game against Cal Lu.

Yes,  that is not what a D3 SID should be printing.  But they did mention the ejections from the game by Oxy players.  They will be missing from part of the next game.

Finally a win for Redlands over Linfield. With tonight's loss, Linfield is a staggering 28-3 against the SCIAC. Redlands has taken some serious lumps against Linfield, but I've always felt you have to play against and emulate the program you want to become. Even though tonights game was a sloppy mess, Redlands finally broke through. Congrats Redlands!

One more thing. The officiating crew tonight were an abomination, and should never see a field of play ever again.

SCIAC is the best conference in the far west, making the NWC a 1 bid league  :'(

Chapman and Redlands showed up at home and played well. Congrats to those two! Hopefully the champs get non west coast 1st round matchups. Though I guess if that means UMHB in the first round....

Really entertaining ballgame at Redlands last night.  I thought the game had a couple of big time inflection points.
- The fumble on the opening drive.  Linfield came out and hit Redlands hard and fast, then the ball ended up getting fumbled twenty yards through the end zone.  Couldn't tell from my perch on the other end of the field whether that was a good call or not, but I think Redlands surviving that initial salvo without giving up points helped them settle in.

- Linfield finally gets into the game with a long TD pass in the second quarter.  Then it looks like the defense is forcing a quick 3 and out, but Martinez somehow escapes a pack of Wildcats, finds Carvalho for a first down.  That play seemed to really suck the energy away from Linfield.  Redlands finishes that drive with a score to get up 11.

- And then the punt block and score really sealed it, although Redlands was really grinding there in the 4th quarter.  3rd and 30 and Carvalho gets 29, which allows Redlands to not necessarily have to punt.  If he gets 25 or 28, they punt, and who knows where that punt snap would have wound up.  But he gets 29, Linfield has a personnel snafu, and Redlands gets the clincher without having to run a play.

I was really impressed with Redlands' defensive line.  They won a lot against Linfield's OL and harassed Smith all game long.  Martinez and Carvalho were great- Martinez didn't have a monster statistical game, but he had an answer just about every time Redlands really needed a play.

The officiating commentary has been had so I won't touch that one.  Both teams hurt themselves with penalties, but the timing on Linfield's transgressions seemed to be especially tough.  I don't think the game turned on the penalties though.  If we think these games are generally won or lost at the LOS, then the right team won.  Redlands was a little better up front last night.

Overall, fun game between two really good teams.  A rematch in November would be a lot of fun, I think.  And definitely possible.

Good breakdown. Did you watch online, or attend in person? I'm curious what you think of Ted Runner stadium and Redlands campus since you're new to the West coast and the SCIAC.
