The NCAA doesn't really see that money from football, but the D-I member schools DEFINITELY need it. Because the NCAA doesn't have an FBS championship, it doesn't get those big rights fees like it does from basketball. Those go to the conferences and schools directly.

OxyBob, OzJohnie, olddog,

Really enjoyed your commentary about this Coronavirus.    Glad to see that I am not the only one who sees the big difference with working in free enterprise vs. government.    To me, what our governments have done now sets a dangerous precedent for future politicians, who may have dictator tendencies.   I fully understand why they did it, but it still worries me.

A lot of the twitter feed last night about even moving football to the winter or spring in D1, I think its a great idea at all levels. The NCAA need$ D1 football, it should be the priority due to the fact it pays for other sports. High Schools should and D2,D3,NAIA, and JC should follow suit for many reasons from recruiting to America's favorite sport. The other sports may need to modify their schedules but preservation of overall sports programs should be the goal.

On a side note, it will be interesting what happens with these big salaries and different scenarios. I wonder if they have to pay if the season is cancelled. Iowa State has stated pay cuts across the board in the athletic dept.

Winter football would be all but impossible in the Midwest and Northeast. There's no way you could play games in the B1G footprint, regardless of division, until mid-March at the earliest.

I am always skeptical of agendas by our state government or as Gavin puts it a nation/state. For example, they keep saying stay at home what about if you have antibodies? those test are available now? No discussion on that topic at all from Gavin.  So a few things happening in CA that folks should realize. Gavin said their wont be public gathering in stadiums in Sept. If Gavin locks this down that hard here. The state could go BK and all the six figure pensions go away or their will be major tax increase and Old Dog will be an ole' Californian. The agenda is to control us, the agenda is face time for a presidential run. We have  built one new reservoir and remolded a few in the past 20 years, so is it a water shortage or a reservoir shortage. The irony about this is the state has been attacking suburban growth, turns out it saved us versus NY.

I think HS Football just had the nail put on its coffin, unless they want to play in the spring too. I think the SCIAC should consider just moving the season to the Spring. I don't think public schools will start on time out here. Image management in a government agency having to put things together quickly, make decisions with out a committee. It's embarrassing looking at highly educated people turn into sheep.

To me, what our governments have done now sets a dangerous precedent for future politicians, who may have dictator tendencies.

A handful of elected officials with no specialized knowledge of anything except fundraising, spewing banal rhetoric and shilling for votes have ordered millions of people to obey their directives to stay in their homes, as they watch from a distance as we lose our jobs and our livelihoods, and our savings melt away.

Think about being ruled by a bunch of doctors. All tobacco products would be outlawed. You wouldn't be able to drink an ice cold Coke without being heavily taxed, and taxes on alcohol would be even higher. You wouldn't be able to own a gun for your own defense. Football would be banned. No more D3 football; too dangerous.

Today, vagrants can still walk around unchecked and unbothered by the police, and they can camp out in their tents and defecate and urinate on the street, but you can't take a walk in the park or on the beach without being hectored and scolded and snitched on by your "neighbors."

What a wonderful world.

Amen Bob, well said...there is a viral video going around in a park in Santa Monica, where every bench has an un-housed Angelino sleeping on it. 800k have applied for unemployment and Gavin responds to Trump wanting sports back Ca..."there is no way" .....What does that tell the small businessman holding onto his few employees, give them the boot now and save the money.

Love all the Corona Virus banter.  As a small business owner, the government employees with guaranteed paychecks have no idea what they are doing to business.  Also, if this becomes a big nothing, which is it looking that way, people will never trust the government again.  It will be a huge mess.

The thing we are all glassing over, if universities don't open for the fall, we will see many schools close like MacMurray.  Whittier and La Verne are in huge trouble if they cannot enroll a class, let alone have a football season.

Imagine paying full sticker tuition for online classes from home. Education is getting disrupted as we speak at all levels. Same with work - first time in 12 years without my daily 75 mile round trip commute in LA. Getting better sleep, more exercise, and less stress. My work productivity is always high, and now it's on steroids. WFH for the win if your career allows it.

I can't stand WFH.  Everything is via the phone or VC.  I'm sick of it.  And every time I get up to stretch my legs and have a drink of water the CEO of Oz Inc. says to me, "Don't you work?"  At this point I wish I worked in the gardening department of the local town council as a gardener.  They are out in the air every day with permission to sit around in the sun.

He is an article the really outlines the plight faced by colleges.  They focused on state schools, which is unfortunate because states will bail them out with our tax money.  None the less, it outlines what financial burdens schools face in the wake of the Rona. Some schools are in deep trouble.  https://apnews.com/673bffcda00bf5522153c15e6e0373d5

Just so folks know how dangerous our governor can be with his comments. Our company has decided not to do any more capital improvements (meaning our contractors wont have work) until we can see our Gov. make comments to the positive, instead of what he remarked about Trump. No clarity makes us conserve cash, consumers cant see our displays.
Enjoy being treated like a child, you all voted for him and Political Science degree, controlling us with fear. What happen to the 25m of us getting this virus Ca...with no disclaimer. His staff walked that back real fast. Anyone that had freshman stats could see they did not make sense, factoring never matched cases.

Most importantly I doubt HS and College Football starts on time in CA ....Nor Cal counties say no way

So, we'll have to say the same thing here about politics posts, huh?

Folks -- I know it is really hard to talk about COVID-19 without also talking about politics, but you need to do so.

One way to try to do this is to not call out politicians by name. That is a good start. Thanks.
