Terrible news. A lot of great memories from watching when my son played there. 04 through 07

Oxy Football.

It is a very sad day, its not like this program was a failure for years. In fact a model program up to 2010 and very honorable  and respected tradition. I am sure this will have a huge impact on future donations, I hope it does so it serves notice to those Trustees and Presidents that want to attack things associated with tradition being more white than other races. If I was involved in the last round of fund raising I would feel so betrayed. Clearly we are all not shocked. If football players we minorities, had nose rings, green hair and all gay. I doubt football would have been dropped. Its a shot American traditions given what I have seen over the years at Oxy.
Irony is the sport has helped so many minorities, but no one said this movement thinks clearly, yet know what is best for everyone.

I am not shocked at the disrespect for the past tradition. In a society where punks do get punched in the face. I am not shocked at the loss of respect. Irony FB develops one of there characteristics.
In an effort to advance, society clearly walks away from activities that brings out the best in people.  I hire people and many young people have some good skills, but the lack of teamwork, communication, etc is at an all time low.

In short my sincere apathy for the Oxy fans and ex football players. The SCIAC should not let any other schools drop football. I think the SCIAC should boot Cal Tech and Oxy out of the league. If the SCIAC allows them in the league they only help in the demise of Football for other programs. In regards to Chapman, it is not a secret at some point they want to go to the USD model.

In regards to the president of Oxy, again...you think the longer your letter is the more valid of a case you make, speaks woke volumes.

I'm very sad to hear this news. Unfortunately it seems to me this is only the beginning of things going the other way for the SCIAC.

Good News is we keep the shoes forever :)

Bad news is now who are we going to beat?

Twitter asking where did the fund raising money go? will they return it or just give it the folks that threw away the 911 memorial flags.

A lot of endowment funds are restricted.  I'm sure those funds related to football can legally go now
to other sports or general endowment.

Fox, if this is the case, which I do not doubt. Many will have donated their last honey pot. Wikipedia says they have an endowment of 446m, more than other SCIAC schools.

The SCIAC is in trouble.  With 2 members not sponsoring football, it will make it easier for other schools to drop football.  Here's looking at your Whittier and La Verne.  Hearing that some big news is coming out of the SCIAC in a couple days or weeks.  Don't know what it is yet, but will be a huge.

Pomona's endowment is over $2 billion. Claremont's is over $1 billion.

You misspelled cementing. Or memorializing. But it isn't ended until they play another game and win or tie.

Based on the NESCAC pulling the plug on winter sports, I would expect that we will see other conferences follow suit.

Would not be surprised at all to see many schools follow. Chapman, Redlands, Cal Lu should be fine, but the others might say football is no longer worth keeping.

Say the worst happens and only Chapman, UR and Ca Lu are left playing football.  Do they join the NWC as football only?

Probably not. I would imagine they would go independent.
