A lot of D1 and JUCO transfers.

Trying to recapture that CLU spirit from the past!
I've read on other boards that some fifth year transfers are being recruited to D3 schools.

I have to say I don't get this.  You're paying to play football in DIII.  Why would you transfer for that in the last year?  You're not going pro.  You're not getting the education benefit of the debt you'll take on.  And you end up paying like $20k for the privilege of playing 10 games of football.  Dudn't make sense to me.

I think that most of these D1 or JUCO transfers would not have played at the D1 level in any games, and the same for JUCO transfers.  My son could have gone to a few D1 schools as a proffered walk-on, but not on scholarship and likely would be a bench warmer-praying to play as a senior.  Instead, he chose a smaller school and plays.  By the way, two St. John's coaches came to our house to recruit my son and we visited the campus.  My son thought everything, but the dorms, was great.  Anyway, just my two cents!

I have seen a lot of JC players come into the SCIAC, some can really help you and some make all league, usually its the undersized guy that played well in JC and the Div 1,1AA passed on, usually its a skill, a few linemen have made the rotations on D or O line. Sometimes a solid JC lineman that was a back up to a D1 guy and just wants to keep playing and get his education is the typical linemen we see. It a solid recruiting move to gain depth, over am 18 year old.

5th Year D1 players usually don't just pay to play, they realize their degree they got will not help them (such a D1 move by coaches)  and are getting an MBA or teaching cert etc. I have seen a few QBs do it for reps and tape, but its rare and not a great move.

They will only be able to recapture it if they bring back the "Photog " (last seen sprinting south on I-5)

Your boy turned up his nose at prison blocks?  What a snob!

It is true that the SJU freshman dorms are a bit Soviet in styling.  Tommie Hall isn't too bad but Pat's where I was (many, many years ago), had a little of that D Block ambiance.  The upper class housing is very good, though.  I looked at the freshman dorms as subtle Benediction encouragement to enjoy the outdoors and all that fresh, country air. ;)

(And, to give context, I rolled into SJU straight off a Navy frigate.  The thought of sharing a room with one man instead of a compartment with 60 had me doing a little happy dance.)

I actually loved the coaching staff and school, as far as graduation rate and job placement.  But the dorms were a bit old and run down compared to other schools.  The lakes and area id beautiful, however.  Our friends son went to Bethel, and it would have been fun to see the Johnnies beat Bethel!

Over 130 players showed up to camp at Cal Lutheran yesterday!  Hope that is a good sign for a strong season.  My son says they have the talent to do well, but we will see how the new coaching staff jell with the players and how their game plan will work.  Fingers crossed.  Just stoked they are playing again!

This season will be interesting and a challenge with COVID and restrictions!  All teams in SCIAC requiring vaccine, but some waivers granted.

Cal Lutheran Football scrimmage this Friday cancelled.  Opponents not vaccinated and CLU does not want to risk.  Team will have inter-squad scrimmage instead.  First game Sat. Nov 4
