Cal Lu has promoted O-line coach Sutherland to offensive coordinator, so this may be good.  A lot of new players on offense.  Returning QB and offensive line.  New RB looks fast and solid as 2 star HS athlete from Mission Viejo, but have 2 other strong returning RB's.  The boys are excited to have to out of state game this season-Southwestern U in TX, and NWC game.  Chapman on schedule 2 X so?

QuotePhiladelphia Stars quarterback Bryan Scott solidified his place as one of the top signal-callers in the USFL, leading Philadelphia to a 30-23 win over the Pittsburgh Maulers in a heated competition on Saturday afternoon that saw several lead exchanges and the first-ever three-point conversion.

Scott, a standout at Occidental College, put on a stellar performance to give the Stars their first win of the season, totaling 273-passing yards for three touchdowns and one on the ground to kick off Week 2.

He looked really good, keeps getting better. I think he checks down better than anyone in the USFL. I think he is the best QB in the league so far...Tough to believe he is not in a fall camp this year.

I looked him up.  Impressive career in SCIAC and working hard to get his chance.

Cal Lu Schedule out.  Two travel games out of state for the team (Washington and Texas), which should be a great experience.

Love the 10 game schedule. I know it's tough getting that 10th game being on the island. However, the young men deserve as many games the NCAA allows.

Looks like Scott from Oxy hurt his knee two games ago and did not play the second half. Last week his was a DNP, no word if done for the year.
He looked really good to me, running better now than in college.

I noticed La Verne is going to play Univ of SD (1AA non scholie) ...in the preseason. I wonder if USD offered it up to UR, since USD has coaches with ties to UR, ..

It would fun to see Chapman, Whit, UR or LF ...play them ...

USD defeated St. Thomas 27-24 last fall.  I think St. Thomas might have been the 3rd best team in the MIAC last year, if that helps provide some (biased) perspective.  St. Thomas played last year with a lot of guys from their 2019 D3 roster which lost 38-20 to St. John's.  That very good St. John's team did defeat Chapman 55-26 in the first round of the playoffs.

I don't think USD will have enough backups to bring into that game...

USD is not a strong D1-AA team, but La Verne has been a SCIAC bottom for years, so this will not be much of a contest, in my opinion.  Cal Lu was schedule to play La Verne that week and instead is going to Southwestern U. in TX, so La Verne likely had to scramble to find an opponent?  USD bench will play 3 quarters.  Redlands and Chapman would compete better, but likely also lose.
