Can someone go check on olddog and RFB.  Man, 0-4 for Redlands with another 4th quarter failure.
RFB is no longer a member.
olddog's last post was in June.  He was waiting to see how the new president would do.

BTW:  OxyBob has not posted since April.

RFB still pops up on my twitter so I'm sure he's occasionally lurk here.

I think it's Chapman's conference to win this year.

I think that Chapman is not what they have been (I am Alumnus of Chapman College and my son plays at CLU).  Cal Lutheran had them, and came up one 2 point conversion short with less than 30 seconds left, and Chapman lost the following game.  The best two teams this year are probably CMS and PP. CMS has a great defense from what I have seen and a good old fashioned run game with big old offensive line and TE that block like tackles(3-4 yards and a cloud of dust).  PP has a great QB and balanced team.  CLU had a great O-Line, but are down 2 returning starters with center and right guard out since game 1.  CLU has a solid QB, perhaps best in the conference and a tough RB.  CLU defense finally came to play vs PLU Saturday, so we will see.   When CLU plays well, they can beat anyone.  The rematch with Chapman should be good.  As for Redlands?  What the heck is going on?  Old Dawg?  Anything?

Old Dog is alive and doing well. I have been away because my business has been very hectic, brought in a couple more partners and its been more work than ever due to covid related logistics.
I have also stayed off the boards because I was tired of being so negative and saw this coming, so I took a break. My take on UR

I am surprised we are 0-4, thought 2-2 was more in order.

Our O line is the issue, One can say they are young etc, but bottom line is we are not very good right now and I am not sure that group will ever be good, I hope I am so wrong. I have stated before and will state again, I am more of a fan of smaller quicker guys over #300 that can't move. Until we can block a linebacker and hold off a D end crashing down for three seconds, it does not matter who is playing the skill spots. Its going to be a tough season, I am shocked a couple back up D linemen have not been moved to O line. I saw guys Saturday by the third step were beat, did not stay on blocks at all.
I know we recruit our butt off for linemen, maybe we just did not get the couple kids we really wanted. Staff works real hard.

Our WRs are very good...not just number 8. Our big TE needs to block better, but we have a couple good guys in those spots too.

Our backs are strong but not fast, again they are not the issue...just need to give them a small hole, they can not be running side to side.

Our QB is a savvy kid but does not have the foot speed Martinez had and it shows. He is being asked to do too much, due to poor blocking..he could manage the game if he had blocking.

Punter and long snapper are great ...and will get a lot of practice this year.

Our defense is not that bad, hence the LF game. The D line is pretty solid, our will backer can play and both our inverts can tackle. We just keep putting to much pressure on them. They will get better thru the season. I am not worried about the defense.

The program, I am really surprised that we did not get more linemen. We have some very nice young skills in the wings. The program and school is very popular due to the camps, so its not an exposure deal, most decent HS players know about UR. The school has some nice financial programs for Inland Empire kids too.  Coach Good is a solid coach, knows what it takes to run a program and really appears to be learning from his past experiences. I think if we can just elevate our line play, UR will alright going forward. Again I would recruit the #230 pound kid and put him thru a couple years of our weight program. Maybe over recruit d linemen. The problem today is most kids do not go both ways anymore in HS. Until we solve our O line issue, tape will expose what they can't do. Advantage opponents DC.

olddog,

Welcome back.  The board has been way too slow. :(

Thanks

BTW Dr. D....I have watched all teams this year and the league is the weakest I have seen it in 15 years, or how far back my memory can go anymore. The line play is average at best.
Yes PP and CMS have a few better guys up front then in the past, but the really good CU, UR or CLU (Rogers era) ...would eat them up.

1) CLU, can score some good athletes in the skill spots, might be the front runner, but an average team compared to past, lets see if their D line can hold up....against CMS run game
2) Chapman, the only thing that tells me its Chapman is team speed. Really sub par for Chapman across the board.
3) Pomona, Most athletic QB, DC's will make him throw the ball to win in league, so we will see...now that there is a lot of tape.
3B) CMS, you are going to see 8 in the box all year, they have a couple weak linemen on offense., Best D line they have had in a while. I dont know if pass blocking will hold up. QB play is average, corners please jump the short routes make them go up top.
5) UR, just better than LV and WC...will play role of spoiler this year
6) I cant believe with the million players LV brings in, this is all they got. Weak line play on both sides, nice WR and RB.
7) I hate to say it they are getting worse, I really worry they will drop football. I am older than some dirt, but I might make the O line rotation.

Good to see you back, olddog.

Jim Good sucks.  Knows what it takes to run a program...into the ground.  Linfield spy - not that they needed one.

olddog

See why I should stay off the boards, things turn negative. I mention Jim Good and his staff knows what it take, now they are taking shots for one down year, entirely not fair......I like the staff so you wont hear me taking shots....league champs too many times to argue. UR has always done well recruiting in the NW, and Jim lead that charge for years....

Can't let stupid people discourage you from your takes.  We all appreciate your opinions.

criswyly

sheesh! a little bit too early to get down on Jim Good
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

olddog

UR has been up in the fourth quarter in 3 out of 4 games. The difference between 1st and 5th...is slim...UR could go 5-1 and win the league and go back to the Cat Dome...The difference is tighter than ever. Kids get hurt, coaches see a scheme that works etc. I have not doubt some of the NWC teams will do some the defensive schemes UR did...since they had some coverage and run stop success. LF should have had more points, but some of the success was due to mental not physical break downs too.

I was initially against Jim Good getting the job, but that was due to my loyalty to Mike Maynard and the whole mess with his great coaching career ending the way it did. I'm still a little bitter about it, and just feel he was not given the respect and proper send off he deserved with a final season and testimonial game to be honored.

Having said that, I was very impressed with the job Jim Good and his staff did last season. He is deserving of the job, and while this season has been a disappointment so far, he deserves support and an opportunity to put his stamp on the program.

However, the last time Redlands opened the season with 5 straight losses was 1988, and that led to Ken Miller being fired, and Mike Maynard being hired. Jim Good and the staff don't need that kind of blemish on their record, so I'm confident they will make the necessary changes and right the ship this weekend against Cal Who.

Go Dawgs!

Go Dawgs!

Cal Who?  Cal Lu will be ready for your DAWGS!  You will be rested after your buy week, and CLU should be on a roll with a three game winning streak!  If CLU defense comes ready to play like last week, the dogs are in trouble.
