I think one big fall out of Whittier dropping football will be does an up and coming coach want to get into D3 Football. I am sure they will find coaches but as an up and coming guy does this look promising in So Cal. Other than Chapman (50/50) ...the other schools are pretty woke and one AD or Pres away from dropping football. Look back at Oxy and WC,...were almost the same story.

What I love about Oxy and WC dropping football. They like to pretend to be open minded, liberal, equal opportunity...etc  (as long as its their Facebook Version)...Who did they hurt the most in my opinion....minority males. Football was a path for them to improve their lives maybe in a time when they need direction, wonder how many young men will fall off the map. Its sad.

St. Thomas made the jump from D3 to DI and just won the Pioneer League. I wonder if Redlands could make the transition as well. That would give the Pioneer League two universities in Southern California. Maybe Chapman could come with as well.
Chapman was D2 in 80's until early 90's when they changed from College to University and went down to D3, even though they grew in attendance and size.  Why would they consider D!?  St. Thomas was nudged out of MIAC because of dominance in all sports, except football, which the Johnies competed with them.  The comment about these schools being "woke" is spot on, and will make any program building difficult.  I am Chapman College athletic alumnus, and my son graduates this year from CLU.  These schools, the Claremont colleges, Oxy, are very "woke".

Chapman restarted their program in 1994. They were loaded with D1 transfers after Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Long Beach dropped their programs. I played against those teams, and they had no business being in D3 with that talent. We tied them 14-14 in 1994, and then were on the other side of lopsided wins in 1995 and 1996.

And that great success delayed their acceptance by the SCIAC.

St. Thomas moved all of its sports, not just football. Is Redlands prepared to do so? That's what's required.

Redlands is not remotely ready to make that jump, never. School does not have the funds or board...All other the same issue except...

Chapman's issue is they could expand but the city of Orange has placed zoning overlays on the area to slow down CU growth, housing being a key one. Ideally Chapman should or could be about 8,000 kids ...based on the demand, becoming and good alternate to USC for many in the area.
I think the pressure would be to move to the Pioneer League for Football and WCC for other sports. It has been discussed in their very long term plan. Parking Structure that the Stadium sits on, is suppose to have the structural capacity for more seating.
An 8000 student undergrad schools does not make sense in D3.

Most the UW schools have over 10,000 students enrolled, so why does 8,000 not make sense in D3?

I was actually surprised how good PP was.... very intelligent team with very good athletes. I think that game lit up a few lightbulbs in a few coaches brains.  :-X

Hope so. By the end of the game last Saturday I was hoping the 'Cats could copy a few pages from the Sagehens' playbook. Their creativity was both effective and entertaining.

The only Saga-anything I remember regarding Linfield is the food service at Dillin Hall - and how to game the ticket system to get two servings on Saturday steak nights.

When the school has about 150 less males enroll they will ask why ? so even if the 150 males were responsible for 15k after aid...its a 3m revenue hit...

Funny how UR tells FB to get numbers up if such a money suck. As if ticket sales was the reason and the reporter bought it.

Reporter never addresses the real reason FB was cut, just like the real reason at Oxy....

Correct.  Nothing about the new president's lack of involvement.

1994 was my senior season at Oxy.  We beat the D1 "bounce backs" 30-20.  It was one of my favorite memories on Patterson Field

Hey but Whittier has eSports so all is OK!

The quotes were a joke and feel for those students that were left high and dry

WC is going to find out how tough it is to raise money going forward for any athletic cause.

At our tailgate in Collegeville this weekend, there was discussion of a "demographic cliff" that's about to slam higher education, what kind of fiscal shape is Whittier in?
Not that long ago (2015, I think), I participated in an appellate advocacy competition at Whittier's now closed law school. Seems like they have been cutting a lot recently--and not just a minor here, and an obsolete major there--it's been substantial stuff.

Is there any concern in Southern California that Whittier may end up completely closing? I have concerns for a number of schools here in the Upper Midwest that are at particular risk of closing.
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Sag,

Whittier sits on 75 Acres. Depending on what type of master plan you could get approved, it would take a long time. It might be worth 100m as is...

Very much so. The handling of this Whittier situation is a complete dumpster fire. Under Oubres tenure:
2018 enrollment: 1700
2022 enrollment: 1100
2018 Athletes: 475
2022 athletes: 455
2018 Board of trustees: 40 members (full)
2022 Board of trustees: 23 members
All while cost of attending WC is at an all time high.
Sports are not hurting. WC football runs on roughly $800k budget. They get roughly 20k per full tuition student. Not all athletes are full pay but quite a bit are. Its not a money issue either as Whittier football routinely breaks even. It is even better with saving costs in the SCIAC by playin one less game (academic conference thing) and one less away game with the added non-conference SCIAC game.
Oubre wants to get rid of all athletics and make way for development of athletic field areas in the canyon for revenue. She has stated that athletics exploit minorities, rather than provide opportunity. Its all a lie and she needs to go. I fear for more than just 4 Varsity sports at WC. I fear that it may be turned into a summer camp. Hell, Whittier Christian is thriving, they may need a new campus.
Alumni are furious and many have pulled their donations and endowments (i pulled mine in 2018 when they gave the school over to this wacko).
