48, you crack me up. :D

Fox, I think Whittier would gain some respect if they'd change their nickname.

Gray Fox

downtown,

Very funny.

I had to give you a plus karma for the change in spite of dawg's campaign.

the eye guy is right......man I hate to say that.... :D

Welcome to the board......or is it bored?   :D

We all have nothing to do and so we post, some of us more and better than others. ;D

Being new to d3 myself it took me at least a month to become an expert and to know that Oxy and Redlands is the big rivalry, the games with Cal Lu are the secondary rivalry.  However the bigest rivarly of them all is right here on this board between the numerous Oxy posters and me and a few other Redlands fans......pick a side, the right side(Dawgs) and win karma.  Choose the wrong side, and well...... ;D

Have fun...thats what its all about.
And dont worry most of the guys who say they know........ really dont!  So join right in. ;D

The NCAA have almost finished doing away with "Indian" nicknames.  Artistic types may be next. :D

GO DAWGS!

Eye of da TIGER

Thanks Downtown for throwing Oxy on there as well  >:(

Tooth,

The Oxy vs Pomona and Oxy vs Whittier are very much indeed still big rivalries, more so in that they are games with very rich traditions!! Those two weeks are very important to the team and Im sure some of the traditions that were around in your day, still exist today!  I can honestly sat that losing the drum and having to hand it over to Pomona my sophmore year was defnitely one of the worst losses in my time at Oxy.
4 is the smallest composite number, its proper divisors being 1 and 2. 4 is the smallest squared prime. 4 is the only number in the English language for which the number of letters in its name is equal to the number itself. 4 is also the number of titles in a row the tigers will have in '07!! Go Oxy

When we say rivalries, are we talking storm the field just because you ruined their perfect season type rivalries? Or just, quality football generated rivalries?

Glad to see you're a football fan as well as a basketball fan :)
Glad to see that you are one too.  :P

I was actually a d3football fan first. Despite the fact that oh, 85-90% of my posts are attributable to the basketball boards, I watched football from day one at Wheaton, an interest that only got crazier when my brother was recruited (I think it was all me and not the football coaches, personally :D) and arrived on campus the next year. I was in a bunch of extricurriculars my fresh and soph years but got annoyed when I had to miss a game my sophomore year, and dropped most of them for my junior year. (Yes, I AM crazy.) Basketball was then just a random thing that started my junior year after I had all this free time on my hands once the football season ended and I didn't know what to do with it. It's just easier for me to post about basketball than football since I actually played.

Oxy v. Whittier for "the shoes"
Oxy v. Pomona for "the drum"
We have one of these in the CCIW, for "the little brass bell." It's between local rivals Wheaton and North Central. Wheaton had it for a zillion seasons straight till we lost it to NCC last year. It's probably the richest game traditionally in the league, but the biggest rivalry lately is Wheaton vs Augie, for sure. That's where the storming the field games come in.

Mmmm... it's too bad Cal Tech doesn't have a football team... that's how I solved this last fall when random posters was vying for my affections.  :D Incidentally, since you have negative karma, does that mean you picked the wrong side?  ;D

Gray Fox: thanks for the random competely undeserved compliment. :) I would be hesitant to judge a SCIAC team on how they play Carthage this year. I'm not convinced that Carthage's random days in the limelight a few years ago were anything but a semi-fluke (thanks to having a few star caliber players who have now left). But if I do get out to a bunch of SCIAC games, and people tell me that this is a pretty typical year caliber wise for the league, I can try to draw some sort of general comparisons, if you'd like me to.

At this point it seems like repitition, but I agree with Eye that the PP and Whittier games are intense weeks around Oxy.  The team rallies around the trophies and lets the frosh know just how important each game is.

Oxy has had The Drum for 2 years and The Shoes for 3 and they don't plan on losing either this year.

As a poet, I, uh, object to the malicious slander of having a sports team named after people like me! ... Yeah!

:D :D :D Do you think that will help get the ball rolling?  ;D

(it should probably be mentioned here that I definitely don't object to what the basic idea of what the NCAA is doing in regards to indian nicknames)

I dont think any of the rivalries are rush the field type deals.  Although considering Oxy hasnt lost a SCIAC game in two years, I wouldnt be surprised if someone rushed the field if they beat Oxy this year!! From an Oxy point of view, our rivalry with Redlands is more of a quality of football generated rivalry.  Since you are a freshman at Oxy you learn that to win the SCIAC you have to beat Redlands.  Over the years it kind of fosters into a dislike for Redlands, from us considering them pad monsters, to them sending us their pregame ritual of the coach pumping up the players on one of their game tapes!!! In the SCIAC there is nothing better than beating Redlands..

Actually means he is hyping a team he's never seen play, boosting a freshman quarterback he protests-too-much is NOT his son, etc. :)

Are we allowed to smite the monitor...where did that come from? >:(
Cant a guy just have a little fun?  I dont understand why anyone would be upset with me supporting Redlands  despite not seeing a game......I dont get why that is such a big thing.  I also suppported SC when my son was there and ASU while my other daughter is there and the high schools they went to.....it is called being involved with your kids(and I dont mean by posting on this board) and staying a part of their lives even when they move away.

Hey Pat if Ive done something wrong on your board , send me a message and tell me what it is.

diehard....I didnt have a choice....I got zapped from the begining , just trying to work my way back home!  I was just fooling around about picking a side,,,,as you can see Pat zapped me for that.  Not everyone appeciates my sense of humor or even has one!

Enjoy the board.  It can be fun and when the season starts, I bet it will get real interesting.  By the way...I have just changed loyality to Whittier.

GO POETS....GO DEEP! :D :D :D :D :D
