Tigre....9 qb's???????? Do some of them play other positions?  Seems lkie quite a bit!

Browneagle64

Most of them will end up playing at other skilled positions ---- mostly W.R's/ D.B.'s. I am sure the staff will do a good job at using their talent at different areas on the field.

Man, I am so glad that we have baseball still going on around L.A. At least this can alleviate the pain of not having football around and hearing Dgd.....just kidding Dgd. Hope that you're learning a lot about UOR football.

btw----- I briefly stepped onto the ULV campus and saw a team with about 60 players. I was glad to see that their offense was not having any trouble with the absense of Ben Guerro. In addition, their Running backs look pretty solid.

I hope the same is going on at Whitter, Pomona, Claremont and etc..

As Browneagle has said,  most of the kids will end up playing different positions.  More importantly its great to see that Oxy has some numbers, with more than 80 players, this is probably one of the biggest teams ever.  It will be interesting to see if the new depth will have any effect on the teams' play. The season kicks off so soon, and you can count on me being there nice and early tailgaiting for the Oxy vs LC game.
4 is the smallest composite number, its proper divisors being 1 and 2. 4 is the smallest squared prime. 4 is the only number in the English language for which the number of letters in its name is equal to the number itself. 4 is also the number of titles in a row the tigers will have in '07!! Go Oxy

Believe it or not I actually saw the Dawgs practice a bit this morning.....they looked goo......oood!  ;D ;D   I think they cut somewhere around 50 kids and put them on the development team......a bit smokey, not smog, from the fire.....my daughter is in shock with Anderson Hall....Im sure she will appreciate ME and HOME  much more, but she really is excited and ready to get away from ol dad's reign!!!!

Off to the golf course and will take in the Sat scrimmage.......love my new laptop and this wireless thing! ;)  Many Corona's will die today!

Dawg,
Unless I am completely brainless I am pretty sure I counted 6 QB's!  I think you  might have been killing some corona's before and while you were typing the message.   ;D

I am glad to see John Morris is back on the team.  He is an all around good guy and quit the team last season for personal reasons.  I am glad to see they have so many QB's after collins they are going to need to seed through them all to find someone that can fill his shoes ... if that is even possible!
O.C. RAH!

Unfortunately, you're both right.  (I was sure El Tigre was brainless  :D). There were 9 Qb's listed when you first posted the link, but the Tigers are obviously in the process of deciding where players fit and have cut the amount of Qb's from an unnecessary 9 -- to Andy Collins and the Fab Five.
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

Tigre....what...me wrong?????? ;D  Surely you jest!  Some of the holy water for ya!

Sun, heat and Corona's are not necessarily a good como....seems ok while your drinking but when you stop....... :'(

Oxy, how can we both be right? There were 9....they may change some but  9 were listed. ;)  Some + for you too.

Sabretooth Tiger

Well, by way of example . . . it should be noted that Scott Saunders, QB out of Palm Springs is listed as a running back/punt returner.

Under other interesting news, there appears to be a transfer QB, Michael Covino, who was a back up at Iona College.  Don't know much about Iona . . . is it DII?

The key will be getting the O line to jell

Now there are 6.  The first time I read the list there were 9 and...Saunders was listed as a QB.  I know he has never played RB, maybe a punter, I dont kno. He is a drop back type passer.  He is not big enough to be a rb, even at the d3 level.  He is a very good qb though.

Saunders is listed at 5'11" 195 lbs . . . that's big enough to be an RB in the SCIAC, especially if you've got some speed and are tough . . . and the stuff that's available on him on the web suggests that he has that as well.  I think it was his high school coach who talked about his great athleticism and ability to make things happen on the field wherever he plays.

Sabretooth Tiger

And it looks like Iona is Div. IAA, so I'm looking forward to the scouting reports on Covino.  It looks like he got into every game for Iona last year, but started none and didn't do much when he was in, so can't really tell anything other than he didn't get a lot of substantive time.

He's listed as a running back/punter:

http://departments.oxy.edu/athletics/football/2006%20Archive/pictures/scottsaunders.html

The "CougZone" a WSU Recruit website lists him at 6' 197 lbs running a 4.75 40

http://washingtonstate.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=38338

The piece in the Desert Sun that I referenced a month or so back had this to say, in relevant part:

Andrew Chau, an assistant coach at Occidental who's responsible for recruiting inland areas including the Coachella Valley, said Saunders' versatility will enable him to play in some capacity as a freshman, while being groomed to be the starting quarterback. When asked what position Saunders would play as a freshman, Chau said "athlete."

"He's got so much ability that we'll try to figure out a way to get him on the field any way we can," Chau said.

[emphasis added].

That article has him at 5'11" and 190 lbs.

http://www.thedesertsun.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060504/SPORTS0603/605040337/1002

So in sum, it appears that Saunders is a stud and that Oxy would like to get on the field in some capacity as a frosh . . . and since it ain't gonna happen at QB,  they've figured out a way to do so.
