Why no comment on these boards about the coaching change at Pomona-Pitzer? I merely stumbled upon it. Apparently the immediately heretofore Pomona-Pitzer HFC has moved to Tufts as OC, and the Pomona-Pitzer Golf Coach has become its HFC while retaining his Golf Coach title. Maybe nobody cares.

The Jumbos - the name of P. T. Barnum's giant African elephant of the 19th century. There is a story behind that, but I'm going to hold my breath on it unless and until specifically asked to repeat it.

I talked to one of the Crespi alum's parents whose son plays at UR and they said there is quite a battle going on for a few positions.....qb being one of them, between Saras, Selway and .....Wabby.  ;)

I dont know anything else about it other than what I was told.  Maybe Saturday's scrimmage will help make some determinations.  I plan on going, anyother dawg fans going?  Im the good looking skinny guy with white hair! :D

Maybe nobody knows . . . I don't recall a Sagehen ever posting in the last year or so that I've been around . . . I for one didn't know . . . went to the Pomona website and don't find any discussion of the change (cursory look only) . . . at any rate, the change does not seem to bode well for the 'hens this year, though a late change like this would likely hurt any program.

For you old Oxy players...who has the inside shot at starting RB this year?  Still Anderson?

Do you think that Kenjus Watson or Ellen Thompson will see much action?  I hear their names every once in a while...but with Gonzalez and company last year...I don't know what the deal is this year.

Thanks!

Andersen will be the starter.  I would say expect to see some relief from Thompson who showed some good stuff late in games last year, and there are two Junior transfers to keep an eye on -- Bo Renaud and Jason Haller.  Renaud is smaller than most backs (but is remenesent of Gonzalez's stature) and I've heard great things about Haller but haven't actually seen him play.

The first two games for the Tigers will straighten a lot things out in the depth charts.  A lot of freshmen/new players should get to see the field and get their feet wet.
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

Pat Coleman

P-P changed coaches quietly last year too when Roger Caron went east with his family. Coach Kats, also the AD at P-P, told me he was taking a one-year sabbatical/leave of absence.

This seems to have stretched into two, or a permanent vacation.

It is regrettable for the Pomona-Pitzer students who want to play football but find themselves caught in the middle of institutional instability at least and possibly worse.

Well what do you know?  For a brief moment the LA Times has acknowledged the presence of small college football in SoCal (although they make no mention of Redlands - so despite DGD's best efforts the Dogs are thus far flying under the radar   ;D )

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-locals1sep01,1,3081331.story

It's also in the print edition of the Football Preview with a nice big picture of Andy Collins...

Nice piece on small college ball in SoCal . . . with particular love shown towards Oxy and Azusa Pacific.  Redlands did get a mention though, at least in the print copy.  On the right had side of page S16 under "Quick Facts" and "Top Returning Players" . . .

"Brad Smith, Sr., S, Redlands -- Led team with five interceptions, two fumble recoveries and six pass breakups in 2005."

Io Triumphe, eat 'em up Tigers . . . one week from today . . . are you ready for some football?

I'm not Scandi, but I hope you don't mind my answering:

It's  in today's L.A. Times (Friday, Sept. 1).  If you're looking at the Special Section entitled "FOOTBALL"  w/ pics of USC and UCLA on the front, saying "From L.A.  To L.A." . . . look inside at page 16.  On the front page table of contents it notes "Small colleges' at page 16.

Good pick up on the Redlands kid in the sidebar, Tooth.

These previews are nice in many ways but they always crack me up a bit as well.  For example, the article makes a lot out of the graduation of Charlie Brown.  Those of us who grew accustomed to Charlie developing slippery fingers in the red zone are not exactly saddened by his departure.

Don't know if you guys have been to the "Around the Region" page for the west, but the Oxy v. Cal Lu game is  one of the 10 "games to watch" in the region per Mr. Johnson:

http://www.d3football.com/atr.php?region=west

Redlands just isn't getting much love here in the pre-season . . . that ginormous recruiting class well stocked with JC and DI transfers seems to be flying under the radar . . . or is it something else?   8)

Guess we'll find out starting in a week . . .
