It appears to be a fact that Redlands schedules great games for the fans. Whatever they can do with it I applaud them. The fact that OXYCollins is in their conference is just another challenge.

Question to Bulldog former players...Do the 7PM start times make the sun a momentary factor this time of year with that east-West allignment? If it is, have coaches ever chosen to kick rather than receive if they won the toss?

Yes, I'm fairly bored on the first week of a two month vacation.

My guesstimate from being there on Friday is no.  By 7 pm it shouldnt matter.

The curve of the earth coupled with the Redlands smog blocks the sun from all inhabitants.

I would have to agree with this... according to weather.com, sunset was at like 7:13 on Saturday. Assuming that there are any sort of building, shrub, or ornamental grass vaguely near the field, I don't think the sun is high enough in the horizon to be visible at 7 anymore. But I'm obviously not a former Redlands player either, so I'll leave that up to the experts.

:D :D :D Redlands is hardly solely responsible for the smog in this area, but good stuff anyway... i always joke that if I live here in SoCal for five more years I'll be dead from lung cancer at 30.  ::) :-\

I love that we're all discussing this like it's a serious question... I think we're all a little overly bored. :D

I see that football season is almost 11 weeks from the first day of summer so the light wouldn't really be a factor that time of year.
Redlands is no way responsible for the smog, however, with the prevailing ocean breezes and the mountains most of the pollution of the megalopolis does get piled up there by late afternoon

That may have been true in the 60's . . . but the Riverside/San Bernardino air quality and visible smog is vastly worse than Eagle Rock and Pasadena today . . . . especially in the afternoon/evening.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

Enjoyed your thoughts, Die Hard - but if you look at the air quality report (like on the last page of the California section of the LA Times) you'll find that there is one SCIAC school where students can be convinced the sky is blue  ;)

On the kickoff time conspiracy topic, I always thought Azusa liked the 6:00 kickoff in order to work their opponents over a little bit  ;D

Sabretooth Tiger

Yup, Cal Lu absolutely wins the "who has the bluest sky" award.

Been in the Conjeo valley for many years....no better place to live, clean air, blue skys not much traffic, little crime.

Thanks Tooth-

It's what we hang our hat on during the lean years when 8-1 doesn't even get you close to the conference championship  :D

Not Cal Tech... they would correctly assert that the sky is every color but blue, but it appears blue because that is the range of the light spectrum that is refected back to our eyes (where as the rest are absorbed) by the vapor in the atmosphere.  :P ;D

Oh wait, this is the football board... uhm... I will have to check out Cal Lu someday.... I forget what blue skies look like out here in Riverside county. I usually head south toward San Diego for the weekends... and they are in attainment for PM 10 and PM 2.5 sooo, it's usually fairly nice there. Everything vaguely near LA is scary to me.  :D

DGD's Week one prediction:

Whitworth is ranked #29 and UR #51, which means very little.   However, both teams will have strong defenses this year. WW will have an edge at QB and therefore on offense also.  To compund the dawgs problem, they have a relativley inexperienced backfield, which will put pressure on the young rb's and starting qb, presumably Saras.

I think this will be a defensive battle and a very close game to the end and may be determined by a fg.

I also think that the intensity the dawgs defense exhibited against Mesa and homefield advantage will give the edge to UR. Look for the UR kicker, Conway to win it late in the game for the dawgs.

I think it will take the preseason for the dawgs to get their offense on track and that there will be several changes and maybe a few surprises, and when they are done they will contend with Oxy and CLU in two hard fought games.

Although our friends at Whitter started off on the bad side of the W column, expect to see them give other sciac teams fits for three quaters. I dropped by the game this past saturday and saw a poet team that just fell off their rythm late in the 3rd quarter. Eventhough they played Puget sound, I hope that these poets rise up and do something better then just folding.
