Eventhough i know that i am going to hear crap from some of you about this soon, but, when all is said and done Collins and Co. all have a great game. Big numbers on the ground attack and through the air produce 52 points and the stellar defense keeps the "pios" to a low 14 points. Although, the cupcake team seems like no match for Oxy, in the end we will at least have learned that a young O-line for the tigers has matured and will be ready for teams such as Cal Lu, the dawgs, the hens, the staggs, etc.

Btw-----Tom, scandii and smitty, when the kingsmen play redlands i hope that this game will determine who gets second place between both schools. I don't see either team taking Oxy down, but at least they will have a shot a getting into the playoffs.

All the teams in the SCIAC have questions to answer about how they'll account for the loss of players to graduation, but I think turnover on the offensive line leaves Oxy with perhaps the biggest questions to answer.  Their line has been critical to their success in recent years, and IMO offensive line is one of the toughest positions to recruit for at the D3 level.  Finding kids with size, agility, and intelligence who haven't already been snapped up by scholarship schools can be tough.  Oxy may wind up having a strong o-line this year, but for now I'm skeptical.   I am not sure that L & C or Colorado College will provide much of a test for Oxy's young o-line, we may not find out how good they are until they play Redlands.

With Collins at the helm Oxy may well repeat as SCIAC champs - but I think they've got a tougher road ahead of them this year.  They have both CLU and Redlands on the road, and I know for a fact that historically the Kingsmen have enjoyed much more success against Oxy at home than in Eagle Rock.

okay ... I agree that the oxy defense will keep the score for CC on the low side.  However, I think that the offense might not score 52 this game.  I promise you that they will win just not by as large a margin as you are predicting.  I have heard that they are become better every day, but I think this will be a big test for the offense.  I know they scimmaged, but from experience I know that a real game means something and it allows an offense to come together and find out what they can really do.  However, just because its CC they might just score 52 plus I havent heard anything back in a week and they could have finaly found what they were missing!

I will be at the game ... I will be with Oswald and Eye if they would write be and let me know what the game plan is!  So far I assure you there will be beer involved!

I would have to say that me and Scandi are on the same page in reference to Oxy's situation.  Having come form the Offensive line I totally understand about finding the right players.  It's the only position where they will make moves often.  Trying to not only to find the right fit on the line, but where that person will work best.  I hate saying stuff about the O-line because my roommate is now left tackle (Shout out to you Chris because I know you will read this :o) and I know everyone, but the freshman, but I hope that they have begun clicking already because that is the most important aspect of the line and that is that the whole group becomes a cohesive line.

Sorry this is a little late, but there was a nice article in yesterday's Daily News Sports Section about the Tigers and Kingsmen.  The title was Looking to run the table, if you want to try and find it on the internet... I don't really have the time this morning.

ps.  Andy Collins gets a nice thumbnailed picture.

Go Tigers!
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

If their basketball site is any indication as to the verbosity of the Oxy SID office, then my answer would be no, that's not very likely.

I am good friends with the SID and for his defense they have him running around doing a million things through out the athletic department.  They guy works really hard and it sometimes takes him a while to get things going.  Hey at least he got the roster op quick like!  I will see what he says when he responds, which shouldnt take long.

Well a lot of questions begin to get answered tomorrow!  Can't wait.

However, coming late to the table concerning the strength of schedule issues I just want to add that some of the comments sound like sour grapes (RFB for one).  It seems that the reality concerning strength of schedule does not make a difference for the SCIAC champion.  Consider the last two years Oxy has had to play a NWC school.  Courtesy of Pat's insight the deciding factor for playoff travel and location seems to be travel and $.  With that who gives a hoot about strength of schedule other than bragging rights and possibly a pool C bid.

So until that changes who cares?  Go with a schedule that is competitive, gets your team peaking at the playoff time, and move forward from there.
Anyway my thoughts

Thanks Bob.  I wonder why that isn't up for public viewing?

Widolff just e-mailed that to me ... I should have figured you off all people would be one step ahead of me!

Sour grapes? Not at all. I am just a very competitive person and would like to see the so called current SCIAC power step up and play a decent team. It would be better for the SCIAC, Oxy players/alumni, and us fans from other schools. I would even be rooting for Oxy to win to help get the SCIAC more recognition. But that will not happen playing CC/L&C for the tenth straight year it seems like. I am officially done with this subject until I see Oxy's 2007 non-conference schedule. Good luck to every SCIAC team this weekend.

Prognostications for no good reason and with no real basis in reality:

Oxy over Lewis & Clark by 21 with lots of non-starting Tigers getting some playing time

Cal Lu over Pac Lu by 10 . . . go Kingsmen

Redlands over Whitworth by 3 . . . but maybe I'll be proven wrong by our NWC friends . . .  ;D

LaVerne over Puget Sound by 3

Kenyon over Claremont by 14

Pomona over Colorado College by 10

there, I've killed some time

Dude . . . "very competitive" people would never say they'd rather sit at home during the playoffs than take a shot at the top dog, even at the risk of a lopsided loss.
