diehard,
I was just about to post this as posted on the CCIW board....
Thanks! I was going to do that, but couldn't insert a quote from my cell phone where I posted that from! :)

Father ='s monitor.

Other than saying he should get a chance, I have not said anything about his ability or lack of.  Is this the only issue you have to post about?
Well, yeah, it is. You wanted me to talk about it more?

I think that people are too hard on the people who have connections to current players... I experienced that first hand with my brother... There was a big debate about the DL for Wheaton my brother's senior year, and I would post things like "I'm sure my brother starting" and I would just get ribbed to no end. Was I right? Well, yeah. Did I have inside information? Well, yeah... I only posted that because the coaches had told my brother that he'd be starting. But because I was associated with him, it was taken the wrong way.

This isn't exactly the same situation, but having been on the receiving end, I'm definitely not going to be the first to poke jabs at a family member of a current player. Aside from the thing about comparing Pat to God, which was too funny to resist, and my very accurate statement that the fact that someone decides to play DIII does NOT have anything to do with whether they were recruited by DI programs... I am so totally staying away from this issue!!!!!!  :o

Does anyone else think OxyBob needs a hug?  :-*

Ron Boerger (BfB) said:

>>And I'll say it again:  it's hard to travel as far as Redlands and Trinity do to play each other and have a good game when you get there.<<

>>As evidence, here is the SCIAC - Trinity series since 2002:<<

>>2002:  @Trinity 66, Pomona-Pitzer 14<<
>>2003:  @Pomona-Pitzer 35, Trinity 31<<
>>2004:  @Trinity 51, Redlands 27<<
>>2005:  Trinity 28, @Redlands 25<<
>>2006:  @Trinity 35, Redlands 10<<

>>Notice how the away team struggles every time.<<

Well, wait a minute. Let's look a bit closer, shall we?

In 2002, Trinity was 14-1, and the only game they lost was in the D-III championship game to Mt. Union. In their 14 wins, Trinity averaged 47 and only gave up 17. Pomona got killed not because of the travel, but because Trinity was WAY better.

In 2003, Pomona scored with 45 seconds left to pull out a home win. Trinity also lost on the road to Rhodes and East Texas Baptist. Was that because of the travel, too?

In 2004, Trinity was 9-2. The only games they lost were to Azusa Pacific (11-3), which lost in NAIA semifinals, and to Mary Hardin-Baylor (13-2), which lost to Linfield in the D-III championship game. Redlands got whipped by a superior Trinity team, just like Oxy got whipped by Linfield, which was a superior team.

In 2005, Trinity won on the road at Redlands, so your theory goes down the drain there.

In 2006, Redlands got spanked by Trinity. Redlands also got spanked at home by Whitworth the prior week. Maybe it's more a function of Redlands not being any good whether it plays at home or on the road rather than a 3-hour plane ride.

The "we-had-to-travel-1000-miles-to-play" excuse is just that, an excuse.

OxyBob

OxyBob,

You sure do despise Redlands don't you? I have never seen you on this board give Redlands any respect as a program. You do your best to find any way to take shots at the program and their fans/alumni. I don't like Oxy but I respect them as a program and have given them props many times in the past. The only problem I have had is with their scheduling. So what's your story? Too much Redlands abuse in the 90's? Not enough hugs as a child?

labart96

Hugs and kisses aside -

What do you guys think about this Friday Night's game btw Oaks Christian and St. Bonnies?  A couple of guys around my office make it sound like County Line bragging rights are up for grabs!

I don't know all that much about SoCal HS ball, but I understand this is a fairly significant rivalry and that Oaks has the Clausen kid who has already committed to ND (who btw looked like the absolute sham most SC fans knew they were coming into the season, but I digress).

RFB

Oaks Christian is loaded. They have twelve kids with DI offers already. It should be a good game. The only knock against OC is that they have been beating up on small school teams the last few years. It should be an interesting game.

TGP,

OC is  one of the best hs football teams you will see.  Theyhave at least 9 D1 scholarship kids and maybe as many as 12-13.  They have a high powered offense with qb Jimmy Clausen(who is 19)  and rb, Mark Tyler(Wendell's son).  they have won a hugh number in a row, like 40.

St. Bonnies is a high powered program also. they have won like 96 out of the last 100.

Both schools are in Ventura county.

The knowc on OC is that they play an extremely weak schedule and the argument steming from the schedule is that they really hve not proven how good they are against good competiton.

St. Bonnie was in the same positin for many of the 96 wins they have but within the last 4-5 years they moved up in divisions and have played some very stiff competition.

Both are ranked very high in the state polls and also nationally ranked.  It will be a showdown of power houses.  It really is te ony tough game on OC's schedule and they want to win badly to prove they are legit.  St. Bonnies wants win to keep their status and show evryone OC is overrated.

The teams have never played and may not again.  The rivalry stems from the OC rankings and what many perceive as an overrated status.

Jimmy clausen is 19 and was held back two years, following a pattern established by his dad for the two older brothers Casey and Rick.  OC is not like because it is alleged that Mr. Clausen recruited great players to surround his son and to build the myth.

It will be a great game.  I think it is being televised.

True, just curious as to what drives his hate of Redlands.

Is Ron Boerger a Redlands fan?

I dont think I saw any excuses by any Redlands fan on this baord.  Both teams, Whitworth and Trinity were obviously better.  No question.

labart96

Thanks for the info on OC/SB.

Sounds like it should be a hell of a HS game.

Is Ron Boerger a Redlands fan?

No.  He wrote the South Region report up until this year.

He might have a good point about the travel.  Sometimes the D3 schools arrive as late as possible to save money and maximize class time.  This hurts their performance sometimes.  Maybe this had something to do with the Kenyon/CMS game and the Whittier/Carthage game.

I agree in some cases travel might hinder a teams performance.  I dont think it had anything to do with the Trinity game.

Thx OB -

Getting feedback from people over here that the game is "sold out"?!?

I guess I just figured it would be a Standing Room Only type of event.

Surprised to say the least.

P.S. My son doesn't play for either team, but he did once play baseball on a travel team with a kid whose dad I once saw talking with the St. Bonnie football coach. I don't know what they were saying to each other, but the coach was laughing.
This sort of thing happens often to people posting on this board ;)
