Ok, I'm ready to try another post.

In the Chapman game the Redlands defense kicked butt!  Offensively the Dogs started out strong but after a couple of possessions the Chapman defense had them pegged.  It was easy to see.  UOR was running 5 or 6 plays consistently and predictably.  The OC should have seen this and switched game plans or at least mixed up the plays, digging deeper into the play book.  That is where I agree with Dawg Fan 1.

Redlands Fan you say they were running numerous plays in a couple of zones but as a former defensive tackle I don't care what you call a play or what the backs are doing to throw me off, if I am confident the ball carrier is coming at me there's meat on my plate
and that is what was happening Saturday night.

The few pass patterns run were shallow and sparse allowing for easy defending and even double teaming.  The failure to open up the secondary is what caused the interceptions in the prior two games.  I wouldn't blame the QB's for that.  Instead of analyzing the problem and adjusting pass plays the OC went to a safe but predictable ground game with a different QB.  Instead of throwing the opponents off he threw his own team off!

Well' let's hope they learn from this last game and really mix things up against Oxy or it could be ugly.

redlandsfan...I dont think so...gotta scoot back quickly after the game for an evening function.

Dawg gone it, I would love to try some of the special margaritas! While we may look young, I assure you we are of legal drinking age. How are the UOR tailgates anyways?  I know that when it comes to tailgates Oxy does it big.  Look for lots of tables, tons of different food items and enough food and drink to satisfy the entire Oxy team and fans.  So if the Oxy vs Redlands game is going to be no contest we can at least battle it out and see who has the best tailgate party and fans. ;)  I know we'll be there nice and early.

Eye guy...sounds like fun...bring Bobby.....my family would love to meet him. :D

Browneagle,  thanks you're welcome!.

Well I'll jump on ahead of the bandwagon early this week.  Last week did pretty good, got burned on my upset prediction as Cal Lu rolled big time.

Here we go:

Cal Lu vs Poets:  Poets write an epic on adversity building character:  Cal Lu by 24

PP vs LaVerne:  Close but PP by 7

Stags vs Chapman:  CMS bounces back but not by much, this one might be low offense production game:  CMS by 7

The game of the season we thought:  Oxy at Redlands.  Despite the home field, still too much conflict at Redlands.  Oxy goes big, especially on passing.  Oxy by 30.  Again it would be a shutout but the backups play most of the 4th qtr and Redlands get one maybe two TD's.  Part of this is based on some of the comments from the Bulldog faithful.  If most of the posters are correct about 1) playcalling, 2) talent is down, and 3) too many turnovers the Oxy D is too tough and Collins too good.  Sorry Dog Fans.

Up north Linfield and Whitworth win, Linfield goes big and sets up the 2nd to last game of the season with Whitworth and Linfield slugging it out.  If both teams win out (except of course for each other) NWC will have two teams in the playoffs.

SCIAC will get the auto only and, assuming Oxy, that means 2nd place NWC travels to Eagle rock for 1st round.

the dawgs have been sandbagging for the first three games......look out Oxy the real dawgs will show up this weekend...I hope. ;)

maybe they have a secret weapon they have been saving for Oxy! :D

CRZK: We have been looking forward to this game all year also as last year's game could have easily gone the way of Redlands except for the dropped ball in the endzone late in the 4th quarter.

Of the three items you list, items #1 and #2 are real issues. The Redlands' offense has the player talent but the the play management has tied their hands, contrary to what two other UOR fans have stated on this forum. The Bulldogs not only have to settle down on the field but they have a real issue to resolve on the sidelines before this will get any better.

Dawg Fan,

Despite looking forward to the game or not, which Im sure the bulldoggies are, Redlands was 3-2 coming into the game last year, with two close losses and unlike this year, a convincing win over Chapman.  Maybe they have been looking forward to this game soo much they forgot to show up the first three weeks of the season?  After playing against Redlands for 4 years I would think they would show up for this game, but who knows..... thats the reason I'll be in attendance to see for myself.

Hello everyone ... man I have missed so much on the board.  Yes OxyBob I have a job and have had no time to mess around online.  Inside sales is faster paced than I ever imagined, but that is what I like.   What I have missed:

The wholehearted announcement from Dawgs go Deep about really being Wabby's Dad, but don't worry I hold nothing against you.  I am just glad I am now beating you in posts again.

The in-depth analysis from the great browneyeeagle guy ...  :D ... sorry couldn't hold that in any longer.

The margarita talk ... I am always open for sweet/stiff margaritas. What tequila will be used because that is always the most important!

Anyways, hopefully I will be able to catch up more tonight after the gym.  As for Redlands would have love for them to win last Saturday night because it would have made for a better game this week, but I have to agree that Redlands always knows how to bring it when Oxy is in town.  Should be a real good game.  Well I got off 36mins ago so I think I should leave!

From the Oxy website:

Football Ties School Record with Rout of CMS

Occidental won its 20th consecutive regular season contest Saturday at Patterson Field with a 42-13 rout of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.  The Tigers, back-to-back champions of the SCIAC, improved to 3-0, 1-0 in league play, and are currently ranked 11th nationally by D3Football.com, 16th by the American Football Coaches Association.

The victory ties a school record for consecutive regular season wins established from 1983-1985, an era that produced three SCIAC titles and three trips to the NCAA Division III playoffs.  Occidental won six league titles in a span of seven years in the 1980's.

Head Coach Dale Widolff commented, "I'm pleased with where we are currently but I am looking for rapid improvement in the weeks ahead."

The Tigers scored on four consecutive first-half possessions and posted over 400 yards of total offense.  Collins completed 13 of 22 passes for 180 yards and turned in the play of the game early in the second quarter, a 77-yard touchdown run that gave Occidental a 14-0 lead.

On the play, Collins broke free up the middle, dodged a pair of Stags at midfield, and raced up the sideline, running over the last defender at the CMS five.  The play was Occidental's longest touchdown from scrimmage since an 83-yard touchdown run by Kamron Jones '01 against Lewis & Clark in 2001.

Collins scored again five minutes later on a seven-yard scamper, set up by a 36-yard punt return by Chris Washington '10 to the CMS 14.  Matt Andersen '08 who rushed 15 times for 73 yards, caught an 8-yard touchdown with 11:07 remaining in the third and scored twice from a yard out in the first half.  The Tigers scored 21 points in the second quarter.

Chris Gerhart '07 and Chris Kyles '08 led the offensive line which again allowed no sacks.  The Tigers accumulated 190 yards rushing.

Joseph Coverson '08 teed up four kickoffs and caught a 29-yard pass from Justin Goltz '09 in the fourth quarter, becoming perhaps the first kicker to catch a touchdown pass in school history.  Thomas Joraanstad '07 nailed a perfect six of six extra-point attempts.

Defensively, the Tigers held CMS scoreless until midway through the fourth quarter, blocking two field goal attempts in the first half.  After a muffed punt return, the Stags began the fourth at the Oxy 18-yard line but a pair of sacks by Alex Wertheimer '10 and James Leonard '08 killed the drive.  Kyle Stowers '06 laid a punishing blow to CMS running back Dan Jacobsen and returned a fumble 15 yards in the second quarter.  Joe Zackary led the team with eight total tackles.

The Tigers' victory sets up a showdown this weekend with 26-time SCIAC champion Redlands.  The Bulldogs (0-3) have played a tough non-conference schedule with losses to Whitworth, Trinity (TX), and a 13-7 setback last week against Chapman.

Redlands snapped an 11-game Occidental winning streak, the second longest in school history, with a 42-35 double overtime victory in 2002.

"They'll definitely be the best team we've played so far this season," says Widolff.  "Redlands is always well coached and they are a physical team.  It will be a great test for our squad."

I think one of the most interesting things about this game is that, despite their very sluggish start, Redlands can restart it's whole season in a big way with a win against Oxy on Saturday night.  While the early season performance of the Tigers & Bulldogs makes Oxy a big favorite, Redlands has a opportunity to turn their season around early.

Should be fun to watch...

Browneagle64

Although, you have a point Scandii about Redlands mentality coming into Satursday game with the Tigers, I would say it will not even be a close game.  ;D

Oxy will be well prepaired and flowing with urgency on both Offense and Defense. The only sense of urgency that UOR has is on their defense, while they continue to struggle on Offense with their 3 stooges at Q.B. (just kidding). I think their O.C. should just spend sometime studying and getting ready.

El T.---I am glad that i can provide you with "The in-depth analysis". I am doing my best to reach the great and wise Sabertooth in my non-sense post. Unfortunately, the young grasshopper has ways to go.
