ECS, it's kind of late for this year, but you can get your d3 football fix at Menlo just down the road from SF. Maybe we could hook up next year.

DGI,
I'll get around to that breakdown/prediction for you. Actually looking forward to it. Trying to move to SF at the moment and it is pretty hectic. As for being at the game, it is at 1pm correct? 80% chance I make it. I'll drop you a message if I do make it.

Prediction coming..... occupied with finding a moving company at the moment.

Bold yes, very bold....kind of like your prediction over poor PP. 8)

Bob...here is your own quote:

Also, insofar as Pomona whining about Redlands running up the score, see Keith McMillan's column on the subject:

Make up your mind.

ECS: Thanks for the warning. Maybe i'll try to trade saturday's meal of Sagehen to some unlucky freshmen on campus. I hope they buy into the added flavors of Pio, stag, dog and cat.  ;D

. . . .

The box score also shows that Redlands led, 39-14, with 4:14 left. After kicking off, Pomona had a pass intercepted and Redlands took over on its own 26 with 3:30 left. Redlands threw a pass, ran the ball once, and then threw a long bomb for a touchdown, which made the score 46-14. Even then local rag described it as "adding insult to injury." The Bulldogs then wondered why Pomona wouldn't line up and shake hands afterwards (not that the Sagehens were right to do that).

Just when you thought it was safe to get back into the water . . .

Bob . . . buddy . . . look, it wasn't Redlands' first string in the game, it was second and third teamers (based on earlier posts/discussions}.  Let's look at it this way . . . Goltz and Oxy's second and third team offense and defense  get their playing time in the late third and fourth quarter of games where Oxy has a substantial lead . . . a lead like Redlands had over the 'Hens.  You know damn well that Dale doesn't have Goltz just handing off.  He gets his shot to air it out, and that's appropriate.  What better way to develop his chops?

Indeed, I haven't heard anyone gripe about the fact that the Oxy defense intercepted a LaVerne pass for a TD in the 4th quarter when Oxy was already up 42-7.  What should the frosh linebacker (Jay Arthur per LaVerne's record keeping) have done, take a knee?  No way.

In fact, Goltz (who is 12 for 19 on the season) has completed one pass for a TD.  Now we know that when Goltz was in, the Tigers had a big lead . . . but no one is griping about Oxy running up the score.

So my suggestion is put it to rest.  There may be good reason for SCIAC fans who are not from Redlands to dislike the 'Dawgs, but the fact that the sub qb playing in his first college game and throwing his first college pass hit a long one for a td is not one of them.

tooth,

Thank you. I obviously can't comment, but if I could, those would be my sentiments exactly. ;)

DGI---Bob is right in saing that "And you know damn well that Coach Widloff would never stick it to an opponent (or the PA announcer)." THat's just not his style. I think he still remembers the days when teams used to run up the score on Oxy even late in the game. I remember attending an Oxy home game during my junior in highschool and saw chapman run the score up 63 pts late in the 3rd and 4th quarter. I am sure that the staff will never go beyond 56 pts.

Brown-
Trade with a frosh girl, God knows they are into free beer and free food...... and I won't make any more comments about freshmen girls other than it is that time of year when the freshmen 15 is starting to show.

OB:  "Ever the advocate, I see. Still, I'd have expected you to recognize the difference between the defense intercepting a pass in the flat and running it in from 20 yards, and the offense throwing long with 2-1/2 minutes to go and up by 4 scores."

Of course I'm the advocate, that's my job and for some reason it's even more fun here even though I'm not getting paid . . .  ;D  And yes, I know the difference, but you argue with the facts you've got right?

OB:  "And you know damn well that Coach Widloff would never stick it to an opponent (or the PA announcer)."

Again, I completely agree.  Perhaps the difference is perception . . . I don't see the second/third string qb passing for a td as "sticking it to them" . . . as per my reference to Goltz above, especially in the circumstance that Redlands was in.  Now if it had been Saras/Collins airing it out at the end with a 40 +/- lead, then the perceptions would be different . . . if the second/third string ran it up to 77-7, the perception would be different, but I won't begrudge the newbies some degree of success on the field and won't think the worst of any coach who permits them to do so in the circumstances that we've discussed.

Now back to paid work . . .  ;)

Sometimes td's are scored when you are just trying to get a first down on third and ten.   :)

CMS posts video highlights on their website for each game.  I watched some of them.  They certainly have some athletes on both sides of the ball.  The dawgs must come out strong like they did last week.  This game will not be a pushover, as evidenced by the CLU win.

The offense will have to continue to be aggressive and consistent like last week.  The defense will have to contain an athletic qb who runs the option and can scramble and throw on the run.

If the Bulldogs play as confidently as they did last week, they will come out with a W!

ECS, how did the move go? How did CMS  come up with the mascot of a buck (stag)??

After getting suckered in By Tommy Lasorda to watch the rest of baseball's  post season of baseball, I'm going to stayed tuned via a friend on how the stags will do just fine v.s. the pups on saturday. With a Q.B. and an offense coming off a big win, the stags will work even harder to stay on top of the pups. In saying so, I expect a real close game in which the stags will capitalize against "confusion".

Get ready for the "return to confusion" to show up. (Edge:CMS by 2 t.D. and some crazy field goal attempts by the kid that can just put it in). Just my opinion by the way. ;D

WOW...CMS by 14....now that is going out on a limb ;)  I would gladly make that bet.

The dawg defense will hold them in a game if the offense isnt jiving.  The offense looked like they had their confidence and continuity back last week and if they play the same way, the dawgs will prevail.  CMS  just hasnt seen a physical defense like UR's yet, if all they do is run, and cant pass with some measurable success, they are in for a long afternoon.

GO DEEP DAWGS......dawg gone it

CRZK

Well, I'll jump in again with my picks for this Sat.

Oxy hosts PP.  As usual teams will play Oxy looking to make a statement but again Oxy focuses on the opp for the week and doesn't look ahead.  Plus home field advantage.  Oxy by at least 4 td's.  Say 40-14

Cal Lu-Chapman;  Cal Lu by 14

LaVerne-Poets:  Poets normally by 14 but LaVerne at home keeps it close but Poets by +4

SCIAC game of the week:  CMS at UR.  I'll give the home field advantage to the Dawgs, still close though.  Dawgs +4
