Well, I fully expect UPS to fix the problem for Oxy this week. Then again, maybe not.

OxyBob

Yeah, I'd say not to put too much stock into that happening.

You guys make it sound like turovers happen in a vacuum and that only luck is involved when turnovers are involved.  The teams with the best records tend to force the most turnovers so I guess they get that way by being lucky.  Put another way, those stinkin' Trjojans of the last four years were the luckiest team on the planet.

As for Whitworth specifically, you can moan all you want about the turnovers, but Linfield had the ball on 15 with a chance to win it and couldn't get it home.  In short, Whitworth played championship defense on Saturday.

Tiger,

I've already commented on this on the NWC board.

5 Lost Fumbles:
1) Linfield QB scrambles for 1st down at the Rat 5 yard line, switching hands and the ball comes loose.  No Rat had a hand/helmet/body on the ball.
2) Linfield RB gets hit from behind/side and stripped on the hit.  All Rats there, they put up field goal.
3) Linfield RB gets stood up in pile, ball gets ripped and Whitworth scores defensive TD.
4) Ball pops loose on QB/RB exchange at Linfield's 32, no Rat defender around on exchange.  Turnover lead to Rats only offensive TD.
5) Again, on the 5 yard-line going in, Cats RB starts to go over the pile and Rat puts a helmet on the ball to pop it loose.

Rat's Clark fumbles at least 4 center/qb exchanges but only lost one, which almost lost the Rats the game and earlier in the game Linfield dropped a sure TD to one of our better guys when the rock slipped right between the hands.  However, the 'Cats practiced in the rain for 3 days and should have been a little better acclimated vs a team that doesn't see as much rain as they do snow this time of year.

In terms of the flow of the game...Linfield dominated from pillar to post but the Rats cause most of their good fortune hawking the slippery pill and all the domination didn't mean squat because we blew our chances and lost the game.

It was funny when Oxy busted out the heaters for the 2004 game but you guys may really want them for your trip to Eastern Washington.  Future forecast is calling for 43 degree high with snow/rain mix with winds at 18 mph.

I recognize that CLU's poor performance at CMS hurts not only them, but also Oxy, at this juncture.  I just think it is unfair to them, and Oxy, to lump the Kingsmen in with LaVerne

really? La Verne did just beat a team that Cal Lu lost to this past weekend.  Sure the Kingsmen took it to the Leo's, maybe they blew their wad too early.  Cal Lu had potential to be a playoff team, but potential really doesn't mean anything in football.  So ya they deserve to be "lumped" with La Verne and Colorado, lumped into a category of teams who didn't meet their potential.

Sorry if you felt like I was taking an undeserved slap at the Leo's.  That was not my intent.  And your point about playing up to potential vs. CMS is certainly valid.

I was talking more about overall performance in recent years.  The facts are that over the last four years (relevant because they include players still playing for both teams) CLU is a combined 4-0 over LaVerne, with a 159-66 point differential.  Overall records during the period: CLU 25-10, ULV 13-22.

Didn't you mean Go Loggers, dam you?

D3.com put Andy Collins as the pre-season #1 quarterback. The "leap of faith" might be that if he is coupled with a defense that performs well OXY might win  playoff games in the tough West.

D3.com keeping LINFIELD in the top 25 is a respectful move that the rest of the country cannot really grasp but it shuts me up.

Academic standards is the primary reason that Chapman isn't a SCIAC team. They actually became DIII with the intention of increasing academics and eventually joining the SCIAC, but so far we won't take them. Maybe with a little more progress the SCIAC powers that be may reconsider, but from what I have heard it probably won't happen anytime soon.

Obviously, the UR-CLU game is of no significance other than to the players in the game.

If you are the coach:

Do you play your seniors?  Do you give the youngsters  some pt? (Bob, Im not honking), or a combination of both, or just play your starters?

I would just like to hear some opinions.

I would hope that both coaches are playing to win. I am sure that all players would be upset if this turned into a pop-warner situation where the coaches just try to get everyone on the field. That being said, I would also hope that seniors would get the go ahead over younger guys. It will be there last opportunity to wear the pads and I hope that each and every one of them gets to step on the field to play, even if it's only for a down or two.

On another note....I just can't seem to understand why everyone is saying that the NWC is better than the SCIAC. Yeah, Whitworth is good and Linfield is never terrible, but I'm just not convinced. In head to head match-ups this year the SCIAC comes out on top over the NWC and even mighty Whitworth barely beat La Verne. With all the talk about Linfield beating stronger opponents than Oxy you'd think that the stats would be reversed. The way I look at it, the arguments just don't match up.

Is Linfield (and therefore Whitworth) really getting extra credit for losing to good teams? Heck, even Cal Tech could do that.

Insights anyone???
