Parents said it was a great game, but also said that the Oxy fans were sub par in their sportsmanship.

Do you have a specific example or are you just trying to be inflammatory?
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

That ankle better come up strong enough.
Occidental should encourage him to run and cut early just to see. Then they can adjust the defensive if necessary. This is pertinent because, unless heroes (Monday nights 9 PM) emerge, Clark and Collins are the best running backs for their teams.

In all fairness to Mandersen, he's a good running back and leads the Tigers rushing attack - not Collins.  Andy is dangerous because at any moment he can break out of the pocket and make a big play.

Here's are player's regular season rushing numbers:

GP  Att  Gain  Loss  Net   Avg  TD  Long  Avg/G
Matt Andersen         8  122  701   33     668   5.5   12   33     83.5
Andy Collins             9   78  485  136     349   4.5    4   77     38.8

(Andersen missed the Whittier game)

Actually got to agree on Anderson.  From what I have heard he adds another dimension and defensive problem both from running and receiving.  Think his absence on Sat played some factor in Oxy's offense taking a while to get started.

Don't think there is anyway, unless Clark is completely missing his ankle, that he doesn't start on Sat.  That said, if he is limited in mobility, Oxy and their pass rush could be a difference maker.

By the way, give me a shout either this board or on PM.  Completed my travel plans for this weekend up to Spokane and would like to hook up with all the Oxy fans up there.

For a laugh, if you haven't checked out the discussion board on the brackets do so.   For example, Hardin Simmons and Mary Hardin meet in the first round and and interesting discussion on modern maps on the internet and travel re: Millsaps.

Seems to me that if Oxy doesn't win it will most likely be because of the size differences across the board. Concur? Disagree? Let's start the analysis!!

GO TIGERS!

Size isn't going to be the factor, speed is.  Linfield was smaller than every playoff opponent they've faced the last four years with the exception of Oxy and maybe St. John's.    Whitworth isn't as big a people think.  Their O-line doesn't over power anybody.  The defenses will decide this game.  Both teams have sweet QB's so whoever can contain the other...they win.  I think Whitworth is a bit one dimensional with the big TE but I think that's one more big weapon than Andy Collins has in his bag...Should be a good one.  COLD but good.  You'll really need those heaters this year, it's gonna make McMinnville seem like Maui.

As a fan only, I see why the - yards for OXYCollins because he has to scramble when, ahem, routes are covered (how many of the 136 was CaLu?) and he is still only a yard behind the (no disrespect) Mr. Anderson on the average.
As a fan that 77 yard fling looks good too.

You definietly have a point, I am simply saying the Occidental running attack shouldn't be described as atrophic.

Oswald is right (by the way it was good to see you this weekend  ;) ) Matt is extremely talented and deserves to be recognized as such. Part of what makes him so dangerous is his ability to get yardage after the initial hit. Ask any defender who has had to tackle him and they will probably tell you that he hits harder than almost anyone out there. Jason Haller is also a very nice backup for Anderson and is a great lead blocker.

Nobody is doubting Andy's ability to scramble.....I love "the real deal" as much as any Oxy fan.

Sounds like Oxy's LB's could have some fun this weekend if Whitworth's QB is a little slow. Hope he's ready to get up close and personal with  Ostland.

Can't wait for Saturday!

Nevermind about the weather...it's supposed to be 41 degrees there on Saturday.  We played there one year and came out after halftime and the field was dusted white... :P

>>I heard that some jokers from Whittier tried to vandalize Oxy's very expensive turf field by painting a big "W" on it. Hmmm, I wonder where that rates on the sportsmanship scale of Bucs06 and his parents.>>

Yep, it's true. When the guys showed up in the morning for walk throughs it was still fresh. Luckily it hadn't dried, so maintenance was able to clean it up easily. Pretty rediculous if you ask me....this isn't high school. It would have cost thousands of dollars to fix the prank if it had managed to stick. Seems like after that stunt, some key rattling was in order. For future reference.....don't mess with Hector's field....he gets pissed.

That was a Whittier 'prank'. All involved are lucky it wasn't a flammable of some sort. Does a very expensive melt.

Well known news to West Coast fans but this is the National stage, from a reliable WILDCAT source in Eastern Washington State:

QuoteBased on Whitworth pre-season release, back-up QBs for Whitworth are
Jon Luke of Enumclaw, Wash., and Kory Kemp of Redmond, Wash.  Stats
show that only Jon Luke with passes and rushes, behind starting QB
Joel Clark. Kory's father, Jeff Kemp, was a QB in the NFL. Kory's
grandfather is better known. He is Jack Kemp, famous Oxy alum, NFL QB,
Republican VP candidate, etc. Kory Kemp throws javelin for Whitworth
track & field.

Whats up everyone, new to the board, just finished my playing career on saturday.  I read this board as a player and now that I no longer fit into that category, I figured I'd come contribute to the board since there aren't many ULV posters.

Good luck to Oxy against Whitworth.  It's definitely their toughest opponent of the season so far.  I think they can beat 'em, but it won't happen if he throws 3 picks.  They gotta shut down Allan and Clark, they're both pretty damn good.  I'm pulling for Oxy though, shine for the SCIAC.

Sorry to dissapoint OxyBob.  Business has kept me busy lately...haven't had the luxary of cashingout my IRA accounts like you old retired folk.

This game comes down to the offenses.  This is the best defense Occidental has faced this season.  That being said, I also don't think Oxy will struggle as much offensively as they did last week.  But, you won't be able to come back from a 20 point deficit in the 4th quarter on this Whitworth team.  Lucky for you, you might not have to.  Whitworth's offense has struggled much of the season.  They have struggled with finishing drives, a lot of their turnovers this year have occured in the other team's territory which can't happen saturday if they want to win.  Joel Clark should be good to go.  Albeit not 100%, he was able to play with this injury through almost 3 full quarters of the UPS game so I don't see why the Oxy game would be a whole lot different.  If its bothering him come wednesday of this week I'd be surprised if he doesn't get something to make it feel better come game time.  Whitworth's pass defense has relied on pressure from the front four and linebackers all season (just like any team who runs zone coverages much of the time), but if they can't get that pressure I don't think Collins will have much trouble picking them apart.  Borrowing some wisdom from John Madden "the team who scores more points this saturday will win the ball game."  And my money is on Whitworth at home.

LT,

Do you know if Jesus still works for facilities?  For one summer, I worked with him on the grounds crew while attending summer school...The campus was especially beautiful at 5:00am.  I'm responsible for the irrigation system at the main entrance at Alumni Ave.  (We had to irrigate and re-sod the two islands after the temporary dining facility was removed once the Johnson re-model was done)

BTW, since it's field turf, what do they (or more specifically Hector) have to do to keep it nice?

It's 5:05 am...sorry.
