Just thought I would share the news. A former player and good friend of mine told me that Redlands dumped their OC. Sounds like Redlands is trying to get back on the right track. Good luck to OXY today.

D O.C.

Interesting, after the 'discussion' about same on this board.

Nobody connected with the program lets this pages influence them, however.

According to the Redlands Fact, he resigned on Monday.  My vote is for Danny Ragsdale to make a return to California from Minnesota.  I doubt it would happen, he is at a D2 that is going 1AA.

Dens...you cant possibly believe that his resignation had anything to do with this silly board, do you. ::)  I hope you got my pm.

Good luck Oxy, and Go Buckeyes!

D O.C.

Go listen over on the NWC board. This one is moribund.

Sorry about Crespi. I got the PM

I think he's a bit to neverous and holding on to his chest as most of us are doing. This is such a close a good match up.

Just got back from work. Sorry to hear about Redlands O.C, but some one had to be held responsible.

Been hearing the game on line. I hope that if any of you that stayed behind will add some opinions and words about this game

3 year record looks pretty darn good for such an  institutuion.

I will miss watching OXYCollins with the 'anything good can happen on any play.'

What a heartbreaker.
The Tigers fought hard and I really believed they were going to take the game away from the Pirates. The defense did a great job, forcing four turnovers: three interceptions by Tim Tanous, Jeremy Gruber and Anthony Ostland and one fumble recovery by Tanous. The offense made solid drives down the field several times, but had a little trouble finishing. Definitely some home field disadvantage was felt with the wet grass field and some iffy calls by the refs.

The boys played their hearts out and it was a GREAT game all around. Congrats to the Pirates.

My Tigers,
Thank you for the last five years. You have all been such a huge part of my life and I will miss you all. I was really proud of all of you today, hold your heads up high; you have been part of Oxy and SCIAC history. No playoff game can ever take that away from you.

From the Oxy website:

Tigers Fall to Whitworth 27-23

Los Angeles (November 18, 2006)

Occidental lost to Whitworth 27-23 in a hard-fought NCAA Division III first-round contest Saturday at the Pine Bowl in Spokane, Wash.   Occidental, champions of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the third straight season, ends its season at 9-1 overall.

Whitworth (9-0), the Northwest Conference champion, entered the game ranked 14th in Division III in points allowed (10.0 per game) and held the high-powered Tiger offense to a season-low 273 yards of total offense.  The game was a back-and forth battle which turned on a series of momentum-changing plays and missed opportunities on both sides in the second half.

Matt Andersen '08 capped a ten-play, 88-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown scamper to give Occidental a 23-20 lead with 5:47 remaining in the third quarter.

James Leonard's tackle of Jay Tully on 4th and two stopped Whitworth's next possession but the Pirates sacked Andy Collins on two consecutive plays and regained possession at their own 23.

A Kyle Havercroft fumble at the Whitworth 24 gave Occidental another chance to increase its lead but the Tiger offense bogged down again when an eight-yard loss  knocked the Tigers back to the Whitworth 32 and a ten-yard holding penalty erased a seven-yard pass to Andersen.

Pressure from the Pirates' Peter Clark led to an incompletion on third down and Collins rushed six yards on 4th and 14 before a tackle by Nick Portrey at the Whitworth 22.

Anthony Ostland '08 intercepted Whitworth quarterback Joel Clark at the Oxy 40 moments later and the Tiger defense held serve on the next possession as well, stopping the Pirates on 3rd and two at the Whitworth 39.  The Tiger offense went three plays and out after both stops.

With 2:13 remaining, Whitworth mounted an eight-play, 64-yard drive, highlighted by a 42-yard pass to Nick Koller to the Oxy 4.   The Tigers held on two-goal line attempts by Havercroft before Clark completed a one-yard pitch to Drew Griggs for the go-ahead touchdown.

Collins completed 27 of 37 attempts for 227 yards, including a ten-yard touchdown pass to Jason Lehman '10 that cut the Whitworth lead to 13-9 early in the second quarter.  Jordan Inabnit '10 caught a 18-yard pass on a trick play from Chris Washington '10 that gave Occidental its first lead 16-13 after an interception by fifth-year senior Tim Tanous.

Thomas Joraanstad '07 put the Tigers on the board with a 33-yard field goal midway through the first quarter.

Tanous led the Oxy defense with nine tackles.  Ostland recorded 8 ½ stops while Leonard collected seven.  James Sabo '08, Robert Theofanis '07, and Alex Wertheimer '10 combined for three sacks.

Whitworth advances to the second round for the first time in its history and will host St. John's (Minn.) next Saturday in Spokane.

Lady Tiger,

As a CAT watching the Pirates-Tigers playoff game in Spokane, I was impessed with both programs. You should be proud of your team. It's a shame someone had to lose today. However, I disagree with your assessment of the wet turf and the officiating. The Pine Bowl has one of the finest football fields in D3`football. The turf was not at all wet and really had no bearing on the outcome of the game. Insofar as the officating, the crew from Minnesota did an outstanding job. I felt they let the game be decided by the players; missed calls were at a minimum. Remember had the one long pass play at the end been intercepted or incomplete, Occidental probably would have won the game.
