Tigersports is the play by play guy, btw.

Surprised at the lack of activity during the game.  Given the buzz this past week, thought the board would light up.

For future reference, just go to my website at www.oxybroadcast.com to find all the links you need, including for the broadcast.

I don't think officiating played any role in the outcome.  While there was a missed call in which I think Collins was tripped on a sack and the holding call was iffy, I thought it was a well-called game, something we don't see too much of in the SCIAC.

As for the turf, there was one or two slips by Oxy players, but I don't know if you can blame the turf for that.

tigersports,

great job on the broadcast....hopefully you deliver your closing arguments with such ferver ;)

Your color guy also does a great job, he seems to have a strong sense of the game and was in good rhythm with you.  I did notice he corrected your wishful play calling a bit ;) ;) ;) ;) :D

I really enjoyed the broadcast, congrats to you and your partner on your great season.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, what were you drinking before or during the game to make you think you were at Linfield???  I need t get me some of that! ;) ;) ;) :D

Thanks for the kind words, Dawg.  Tim does in fact carry our broadcasts.  Didn't even realize I was calling them Linfield.  Figured since I was cold and in the NW, it must be Linfield.  I figured it out after it was obvious Oxy wouldn't lose by six touchdowns.

I was LMAO at the call, I wanted to text you or something but, hey even Howard Cosell, made mistakes, remember the ..."he is like a monkey "  call?  Again, great game, really enjoyed it.  Loved the excitement you brought withthe timely raising of your voice.  ;D  Say hello to Catherine for me. ;)

Oxy fans,

Congrats on another great year and game vs. Whitworth. Those are tough ones to lose. I thought you guys were going to hang on, but the Pirates pulled it out, something they've been able to do a number of times this season.

I've said before that I enjoyed reading the increased discussion on your board this year. Tooth, OxyBob, and others from the SCIAC have cracked me up more than once. tigersports, you seem to be gaining more popularity with every broadcast.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Lady Tiger,

As a CAT watching the Pirates-Tigers playoff game in Spokane, I was impessed with both programs. You should be proud of your team. It's a shame someone had to lose today. However, I disagree with your assessment of the wet turf and the officiating. The Pine Bowl has one of the finest football fields in D3`football. The turf was not at all wet and really had no bearing on the outcome of the game. Insofar as the officating, the crew from Minnesota did an outstanding job. I felt they let the game be decided by the players; missed calls were at a minimum. Remember had the one long pass play at the end been intercepted or incomplete, Occidental probably would have won the game.

I agree with you on the field being in good shape and really beautiful, however, it was rather damp down there. Yes, for a northwest team, that was bone dry, but coming from So-cal where real grass is more like cement with green stuff on it, that was rather slippery for our guys. They aren't used to playing with muddy cleats and it caused some slips and slides. Not a dis on the Whitworth field at all....that's part of what homefield advantage is all about.

I also agree that there weren't many missed calls, but there were a couple big ones that were a little disappointing (including the last long pass play where the Oxy d-line would have gotten to Clark if they weren't being held). I was also very surprised that at one point a Whitworth guy was screaming and swearing in an officials face and he did nothing about it, didn't ever warn the guy. I'm definitely not blaming the refs for anything, I'm used to it by now, the Oxy guys seem to get the short end of the ref's stick a lot. It was just an observation.

Meh, crap happens. It was a great season and a great game.

Anyone seen the All-SCIAC team yet?  Obviously Collins is the offensive player of the year, but who's the defensive player of the year?  Just looking at the stats I would have to think its Barbour from P-P as he led the league in tackles and picks.  Any other ideas?

Redlands had six on the first team and five on the second. Barbour sound like a good candidate to me with those type of numbers.

Sounds like Redlands was well-represented.  Do they announce it to the teams first, or is the SCIAC site just slow on getting up the info?

Here is the Redlands press release:

Nov. 16, 2006 - Redlands, CA -
"It was announced yesterday that 11 student-athletes from the University of Redlands football team earned All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) awards.  The Bulldogs gained six First Team honorees to go along with five players on the Second Team.

Senior offensive lineman Mark Thom (Rio Dell, CA), graduate student tight end Tyson McGuire (Martinez, CA), senior return specialist Kyle Godfrey (Apple Valley, CA), sophomore defensive lineman Brock Ardnt (Valencia, CA), senior linebacker Keith Richardson (Ahwatuckee, AZ), and senior defensive back Brad Smith (Burlingame, CA) earned First Team honors.  Sophomore running back Zack Schafer (Saugus, CA), senior offensive lineman Russell DeMent (San Diego, CA), sophomore defensive lineman Gavril Gabriel (Downey, CA) and junior linebacker Kris Richardson (Ahwatuckee, AZ) landed spots on the Second Team.  Godfrey also boasted Second Team honors as a wide receiver.

Making his second appearance on the First Team, Thom was an instrumental part of the Bulldogs' offensive line.  He provided near-perfect pass protection and explosive run-blocking to allow the Bulldogs to earn over 2,000 yards of total offense.  This team captain started every game during the Bulldogs' 4-2 campaign in SCIAC competition.  Earlier this season, Thom was named to Don Hansen's Preseason All-American Second Team.

McGuire saw limited time this season due to injury.  In conference games, he made two catches for 34 yards and provided tenacious blocking for the Bulldog offense.  This is McGuire's first All-SCIAC honor of his career.

Also gaining his inaugural All-Conference award, Arndt tallied 24 solo and six assisted tackles for 30 tackles in six conference games.  He led the team with 15.5 tackles for a loss of 81 yards, including five sacks for a loss of 33 yards.  He also earned two quarterback hurries.  On the season, he boasts an impressive 18 tackles for a loss of 93 yards.

Keith Richardson gained his first All-SCIAC honor in his final season with the Bulldogs.  He led the team with 36 tackles, including 19 solo and 17 assisted.  This team captain earned four tackles for a loss of nine yards.  He also snagged one interception for a return of 25 yards.

Truly playing a diverse role for the Bulldogs, Smith provided key plays throughout the season, primarily as a defensive back but also as a kicker.  Against conference opponents, he tallied 16 solo tackles and 11 assisted tackles for a total of 27.  He made two interception returns for 33 yards and recorded two pass break-ups.  Smith also returned one kick for a 42-yard touchdown.  As a kicker, Smith made six of eight field goals and all eleven point-after tries.  On kick-offs, he averaged 49.4 yards on 16 attempts.  This captain also garnered First Team honors in 2005.

In only his second year at Redlands, Schafer made his mark as the team's top running back with his Second Team nod.  Against SCIAC opponents, he boasted 861 yards rushing for an average of 143.5 yards per game.  He supplied six touchdowns to lead the team to its second-place finish in the conference.  He also made three catches for 24 yards.  Schafer ranks first on the team in all-purpose yards and total offense.  Overall, he broke the 1,000-yard barrier with 1,075 rushing yards on 195 carries in nine games.

Due to his multi-faceted contributions, Godfrey earns two All-SCIAC accolades with this year's addition of an award for special teams.  As a return specialist, this team captain tallied 174 yards on punt returns and 132 yards on kick returns to earn First Team honors.  As a wide receiver, he led the Bulldogs with 137 yards on 11 catches for two touchdowns in six SCIAC games to earn Second Team honors.

Representing Redlands on the Second Team, DeMent earns his first All-SCIAC award after playing a vital role on the Bulldogs' offensive line. He helped create holes in conference opponents' defenses to allow Redlands to gain 1,185 rushing yards for an average of 197.5 yards per game.

With his Second Team nod, Gabriel gains his inaugural All-Conference accolade.  In six SCIAC games, he supplied 16 solo and 12 assisted tackles as a defensive lineman.  He also posted 7.5 tackles for a loss of 43 yards, which includes 4.5 sacks for a loss of 36 yards.  He also was credited with three quarterback hurries.

Kris Richardson landed a spot on the Second Team for his first honor.  During conference games, he ranks tied for second on the team in total tackles with 35, including 19 solo and 16 assisted.  He supplied one tackle for a loss to go along with one pass break-up.

The All-SCIAC teams are determined by the conference coaches at their end-of-season meeting."

Keith Richardson was a stud on defense all year, I could see him getting defensive player of the year.  His brother will be a monster next year.Brad Smith also had a great all around year on defense, special teams and kicking.  I think he has a year remaining.   Arnt was all over the place for a dL guy.  Cant wait to see him play again next year.

Congrats to all the Bulldogs who earned honors.

It's been another great season on this board. I am happy to say that i learned a lot this time around. For all the regular contributors and piss match starters, thanks.

I am glad that there were Interesting games and outcomes all over the SCIAC this season. But, all this made it much better and more fun to hear. Not only that it made us understand our teams better.

With that said, Its hard to hear that Oxy did so well, yet couldn't come out with the win. In saying that, I hope that every player for the tigers understand that they shouldn't get to angry but learn from this. Especially if they want to stay on top of the SCIAC and go beyond the second round. No need to feel bad when the tigers know that other teams didn't even get the opportunity to go to the dance.

Congrats to P.O.Y Collins and the other tigers that will make it on the all--conference, etc.... list. I can't believe that some of these kids that i knew when i was a senior are about to leave. Thanks for another great year and season.

As for the rest of the conference. Even though Collins leaves, don't expect the window to be fully open. The tigers return a dominant young O-line that went above and beyond what was expected from them. The other players on O and D will be just as ready as well. Cal Lu should be ready to go at it with Jones leading the way. The combo duo of Dolittle and Martinez can possibly start a new win trend. In addition, the stags might learn from their youthful experience during this year. Pomona will need to re-load by at. Moreover, with the youth still going on at the UOR, i think they might just be in the hunt, as long as they don't start to get confused yet again. Finally, those poets might surprise yet more teams this next year.

p.s.Tooth, Oxybob, scandii, brady and any others that will be attending B-ball games or baseball games,  hope to meet you guys.
