Just to add my 2 cents worth on the playoff game.

What a great game!!  Maybe a couple chances lost in the 1st qtr to hold Whitworth out of the endzone but Oxy offense and defense did a great job all day!!

Not to leave out Whitworth both sides of their team did very well.  They did get "gunshy" in the middle of the game and kept the ball on the ground after a string of interceptions.  However their D kept the game close and gave them a chance at the last second.  Clark did a gutsy job.

As most of the thinking posters realized, this was going to be a close game and it lived up to its billing.  Either team was capable and worthy of winning.  A shame one team had to see their season end but no reason not to hold your head high.  This game is a fine example of college sports and Oxy football at its finest.  I am very proud of the team, the fans, and the coaches at Oxy.  Go Tigers!!

Gotta second tooth.  It's going to be a "dog fight"  :D for 2nd place in the SCIAC next year.  Some tough Oxy footballers coming back to replace critical losses on both sides of the Oxy ball,  but they should be more than ready.  So Cal Lu, Dawgs, look at your schedule and see what it takes for the pool c bid!!

Best holiday wishes to all ;D

First of all, props to Oxy for playing well up north - sounds like they played a heck of a game.  I hope the Rats show well on Saturday against the Johnnies - it would be nice for a west coast team to post a playoff win over a respected team like St. John's.

I think it's great there are many teams who feel like they have every reason to look forward to next season.  It's tough to lose three close games like CLU did this year, but a quick look at the roster is all it takes to boost morale. ;D

If Collins doesn't come back, I think that CLU is going to be the SCIAC favorite next year. Although, coaching might kill them again. If Oxy can get some good freshman talent in, especially on defense, they should still challenge for the title. Not many people realize how talented Justin Goltz is because Andy got so much attention. Learning from Collins the last two years has allowed Goltz to grow without pressure of immediate production, and finally getting to play with a first string supporting cast should let the youngster shine. His stats haven't been super impressive over the past two years because when Oxy puts the second or third string guys in, they typically do it in mass, meaning O-line, receivers, RB and QB. With Anderson, the majority of the O-line, and at least 3 starting receivers come back next season, scoring shouldn't be a problem for the Tigers.

LT-

Your attempts to start a $#%@ storm about the CLU coaching staff are becoming more and more transparent.  Next time why don't you start with "Hey everybody, who wants to talk #$%* about the Cal Lu coaches?"  It might be less subtle, but may just get you the results you're looking for.  ::) :D

Oxy ruined a lovely family reunion this coming weekend - a chance to see the old homestead in Pasadena and visit with old friends before watching the Johnnies get it on with the Tigers.  Was listening to the game, thinking that 3rd and 13 with about a minute to go was a no-go for the Pirates - then lo and behold.  Way to grab the tailpipe, Tigers!  >:( ;D

Well, we'll see if the Johnnies grab it next or manage to take one away from Spokane.  Just sorry the Tigers couldn't pull it out - we could have had a nice double header with a great afternoon D3 playoff game and then a game later in the day in the Coliseum between those two unknowns.

Hope something works out in the next few years - the boys from MN deserve a little warm weather in November every once in a while.  Good luck next year to all the SCIAC teams.

Leopard TE 8

someone asked about All-SCIAC teams.  They do announce it to the teams first.  We had three 1st teamers, two 2nd teamers, and three honorable mention.

1st team: OL Matt Wiegand, LB Corey Tello, WR Mike Moreno

2nd team: FB Joe Camacho, DL Kevin Knosp

Honorable Mention:  WR Matt Griffin, LB Deandre Valencia, OL Ray Kodadek

I guess the SCIAC site is a little slow at updating, congrats to the all conference teams. btw, does anyone know who the 2nd team TE was?  My guess is Pomona's TE, but I also didn't think Redlands TE was going to be the 1st team.  Congrats to him though.

Good season Oxy.

Browneagle, playing in the 2 QB system sucks...

Leo I never said that its the best.

I just said that Maybe, and from what I saw from your leo team this year is that it could work.

From pros, to college level, the two headed monster of double q.b.'s sometimes sucks. But there are those rare situtation in which it does work(i.e, Leak and tebow at UOF )

Congrats to the All-sciac team. Any word on who got D.P.O.Y

Wondering what Oxy players or fans thought of Whitworth's pass defense..looks like Collins was able to complete a lot of short throws.

Didn't see the game, but gut reaction is that there were not enough short passes completed.   Whitworth's D did a great job, holding Oxy's scoring total to the lowest level of the year if I'm not mistaken.

Pass d was solid, not spectacular but solid.

Did execute corner blitz well but think there was enough time to make the quick hit on a slant or across the middle.  Oxy had good success with the wide screen (at least that's what I call it), when they ran two wide and one wr sets downfield for 3 yds or so and hit the guy trailing to pick up a block.

Long passes downfield were covered well for the most part.  Guess only thing that we maybe should have done different in 3rd and 4th qtr is hit the 3-4-5 yd short pass and worked a couple of 1st downs.

Whitworth's defense is easily the best part of their team. Their secondary is a big group of boys that are pretty athletic. Tulley is probably the most athletic of the bunch and easliy the biggest whinner. The thing that is most impressive about Whitworth's defense is their ability to get a stop when they need to.

Do any of the Cal Lu guys know how to get the pictures that were taken at the Cal Lu v. Oxy game this year?  I've heard that there were Kingsmen photographers taking pictures on the sidelines.
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

The key to the Whitworth D, imo, was the pass rush in the second half.  Collins took key sacks on the three key drives in Whitworth territory in the 4th, which put them in long yardage situations.  Oxy missed their best possession guy, Winchell, who came up big the last time Oxy played a top-shelf defense (Redlands).

You are ... although the stat likely tells more about Oxy's soft schedule (CC and L&C as the nonconference games??? GMAB) than Whitworth's defense.

Mighty Whittier put up 30 on Oxy.

Actually Tooth you are not mistaken.  23 points is the lowest point total for the Oxy offense this season.  Repete must not have graduated from one of the fine SCIAC institutions where I'm assuming they don't give you your diplmoa until you can learn to read.
