From this year's "Around the West" round one predictions:

The Occidental-Whitworth game pairs two of the best quarterbacks in the country in Whitworth's Joel Clark and Occidental's Andy Collins. Clark's ability to return from a high ankle sprain in the Pirates last game will be key for Whitworth. Both teams have solid defenses but look for points to pile up in this one. Whitworth should win by a touchdown.

Here's the "Around the West" prediction for round one in 2004:

For Willamette and Occidental, their common opponent is Lewis and Clark from the NWC. Both these teams gave the Pioneers a good roughing up this season. Willamette won 55-6 while rushing for 310 yards and piling up five sacks. Occidental put up 262 yards rushing to claim a 31-6 victory.

Both impressive wins but only one team can advance. Bearcats get the win in a 24-point blowout and advance to the second round to face Concordia.

And the "Around the West Prediction for 2004's second round matchup between Oxy and Concordia:

While both these teams appear similar on paper, I still have a feeling the Cobbers will win by 17 points thanks to their stingy defense and their ability to not skip a beat when playing at the Fargodome. They blanked Menlo, from California, there two weeks ago 30-0.

Based on all of my various readings while trolling the board, no one likes Oxy save for Oxy fans.

Good, always better to be the underdog . . . there's only one way to go from there . . .

Best part is, Occidental's PR people took that line and said "D3football.com predicted we would lose, but we won anyway."

I had to teach them one of the basic tenets of journalism -- a column is not the same as the editorial page. It's Adam's opinion, not D3football.com's.

I guess I was referring more to some of these old posts I'd run across while skimming back to check the reaction to the Oxy-Whit matchup for YIR.

I know these are old and from different pages, but taken in succession, these questions begin to answer themselves.

Just checked the Whitworth and Occidental websites to see what information had been posted about the game.

While Whitworth has a brief post announcing who they are playing in the first round, Oxy's website doesn't even have results of last night's game on it.  Is that typical?  I would think there are plenty of people out there who want to know the results, both because it is a rivalry game and because of the playoff implications.

Also, where can a fan go to check out Occidental's season stats and box scores?  I don't find those on the website either.

Not meaning to attack any individual person but would anyone like to comment on why the SCIAC is one of the slowest conferences in the nation year-in and year-out releasing information (schedules, results, awards, etc)? I can't be the only one noticing the lack of SCIAC releases on this site and the sciac "website" itself.

I will be the first to admit that Oxy is probably the worst team in the nation at releasing articles, awards etc. Most teams in the SCIAC have already released their All League selections and yet Oxy's won't be out till Christmas.
