Oxy has released it's 2007 schedule via the article posted below.  The website has this article, but the schedule page still shows the 2006 schedule results.

It has now been updated.

Its more than just privates vs publics.  Its the mentality of the school with respect to its athletic programs.  It seems that with Mt. Union and Linfield and some other privates that they place a higher improtance on atletics than lets say, some of the SCIAC schools.  Im not being critical of them, or saying that their academics are not as good or they dont care about them, Im just saying that they place a higher importance on athletics than most SCIAC schools.  This leads to other issues, like money that is allocated for a sport and maybe more importantly, how much money is available to budget that sport.  I think the more improtant the sport is to the school and alumni, the more donations, grants, etc. are available for the student athlete and to fund the program, its facilities, equipment etc.

Just my opinion.

The schools you mentioned have been very successful for many years.  That can be for many reasons other than placing a higher improtance  on atletics.

Otherwise, you would be saying the current success at Oxy and recent success at Redlands is because they sold out academics for athletics.  And, according to all your recent predictions, Oxy has seen the error of their ways and Redlands is just beginning their next round of Cool-Aide. ::)

Saying it's too hard to compete because a conference is public is just an excuse.

Amen!

I never said anyone was selling out academics.  I did say that some schools place a "higher importance" or a "higher priority" on athletics than others.  In those schools, public or private, more money is allocated to sports than those schools with a lower priority.  The athletic priorities have nothing to do with academic quality or priorities. A school can be committed to both academics and winning football.

My observation wasnt based upon head to head competition, jpwever, look at the final 4 or 8 over the last several years and I think my observation is correct.

I did not say it was "too hard to compete", those are your words.  I said, it was difficult, and I thought publics had an advantage.  I also qualified my opinion with respect to privates who, again, have a high priority on athletics.  No one on this board can convince me that Linfield doesnt have a "high priority" on football, and that their alums are not extremely involved in the program, which, usually equates to donations. Again, I am not saying that they sacrifice academics to athletics.

There is certainly a difference in meaning between what I said and your post.

I dont believe that I made any ....excuses.....for anyone.  Nor did I make any predictions.   Just stated my opinion which usually results in name calling and antagonistic comments.

Most schools have a "specialty" that unites the alumni and attracts people with high levels  of those skills.  Kenyon has their swim team.  St. Olaf has their choir.  Linfield has "The Streak".  At the DI level,  Ohio State has the guy with the Sousaphone dotting the " i ". ::)  I doubt they sacrifice overall academics for these people.

Since no one else will take the plunge and make the first predictions for this years SCIAC football season, I will make mine.

1.  UR
2. OXY
3. CLU
4. CMS
5. ULV
6. PP
7. WHIT

I think CLU  will suffer from not having a head coach, an obvious observation, Oxy will sorely miss, Mr. Collins, UR has some serious reconstruction to do on offense and of the rest I think the only other team to challenge might be CMS.

Of course , "on any given day......"  UR  especially should heed these words in light of what happened last year at the hands of the mighty Poets.

The season cant start soon enough.

This is a prediction. :'(

From the way it looks right now ULV will sorely miss a head coach :-\...

I was referring to my last post.  I think its pretty funny that you two are willing to go back almost three weeks in posts to attempt to impeach a totally unrelated post I made today. And OB, not as much as you will miss Collins ::)

Did the esteemed OxyBob and Sabertooth Tiger peruse the LINFIELD athletics website enough to see this old news?
