Not to cast aspersions on the high school alma mater of Jim Thorpe (when it was Haskell Indian School), but from a football perspective if this is true it would seem to take D3 non-conference scheduling to a new low.

I tried to find some measure of comparison; the Massey Ratings will have to do.  You'll have to go down a ways to find the Indians.  In fact, there are only 3 NAIA teams ranked below them.  I suspect you'll be in a poor position to call out Oxy for their non-conference schedule now.

tmerton, thanks for the info.  If its true and based upon past years, I have to believe that they were hard pressed to find an opponent for week two.  Again, if it is true, hopefully it for this year only. :(

We still play Whitworth and Chapman, two out of three isnt so bad. :-\

I would say you only have one out of three if your talking about quality of opponents...
Hail to the Orange!!!

CRL       You may be right, however, last year Chapman, in a very strange game to say the least, beat UR.  Therefore, I included them in the quality side of the equasion.

This week the UR Bulldog football team and staff are heading to New Orleans to again assist in the ongoing Katrina relief program.  The coaching staff and players are to be commended on their efforts.  The entire Bulldog family should be proud of them.

They return to begin spring practice.  Good Luck to all involved.

I guess Colorado College joining the SCAC threw off the Redlands schedule as well as Oxy.  I assume Trinity was going to come to Redlands.

Since Redlands wanted a home game and Oxy was going to travel to CC, Oxy got Menlo and UR may be settling for these guys.  I wonder if money to travel is an issue for them.

Everybody at UR will get in the game.

Trinity backed out of playing UR.   I dont know why, but my guess is travel expense. They were to play at UR this year.  I think it left UR with the predicament of finding a week two game in a hurry.

Trinity is in the SCAC, the league CC joined this year.

Very doubtful that Redlands had many choices to fill a game this late. As many of our Oxy posters have pointed out, "Schedules are set many years in advance". If it is true, this is most likely a quick fix for Redlands.

>>Go to the Redlands web site and read the 2006 season summary. The loss to Chapman isn't even mentioned.  OxyBob<<

For obvious reasons, I dare not comment on the review other than to say, the probable reason the Chapman game isnt mentioned in the review is that it was, most forgettable, to say the least.

I could hardly classify Chapman as a pushover in my prior post since they won last years game.

There are a bunch of schools looking for games at this late date.  They could have held out for something better.  We should look at it as a cultural exchange game.  There has to be some silver lining in the scheduling of these guys.  You'd think that they would get some KU walk-ons to transfer in since they are located in Lawrence.

Its not just looking for a late game, its looking for a late game in week two, at home.  That complicates things quite a bit.  If you wait too long I imagine you run the risk of not getting a game at all.  If that happened, UR would have back to back byes.  That would really be awful.

What schools? I'm not sure how up to date the open game date listing is on this website. Pat, could you help on this one?
