Frankly, whoever Mr. Collins successor will be; whether it's a 5-9 Q.B., a 6-1 transfer from Palomar J.C, a 6-0 relative of the great John Elway, or a surprise and talented transfer from Oregon, they will do just fine with a strong offense returning this fall.

What about Goltz who is taller than 5'9", and not a transfer?  I presume the battle will be between Saunders, Goltz, the kid from Washington we discussed earlier or perhaps a JC or 4 year transfer to be named.

As far as Elway goes . . . BE is kidding . . . BE, tell Pat you're kidding.  I can't imagine that guy'd be welcome back by the staff after the way he ran out when the competition heated up.  NFW is all I can say.

Tooth...........I dont know the entire history of the Elway kid with Oxy, is he the one that transferred to Colorado St. and then left there because he wasnt going to play?  If so, there was rumor that he was transfering to UR but obviously didn't.  Is he now going back to Oxy?  Wow....talk about cahones!

Well despite playing Haskell UR now plays the number 10 and 12 ranked teams in the nation ;)

And finally.......buddy......Im not waiving my member, I would just like to let sleeping dawgs,(the last two anyway ;) lie.  Some of us are just like elephants.

snoop dawg

Did Elway leave Oxy because he had dreams of playing D1 or because he lost his job to Collins?  Or was there some other reason?

Pat Coleman

Don't know how many of us here can actually speak to that reliably but that's the hearsay on the subject, that he had lost the job and wouldn't stay as a backup.

Pat, i was just kidding.

To clarify why i even brought up young elway, a 5-9 Q.B, or a 6-1 Q.B in my recent post was because i was trying to make the point that whoever is going to be the new Q.B. , theywill need to understand that all of these q.b.'s that came before him busted their tails off with their teammates in order to gain success in the SCIAC.
Once this young Q.B understands this concept i am sure the whole tiger team will click together and prove street and smith and others that the tigers do belong in the top #12 rankings. That's all.

Is Phillip Guerrero making a run at the starting QB spot at Oxy?

Guerrero is listed as a wide receiver.  The two returning players who have been mentioned are Goltz and Saunders.  Goltz was Collins' backup last year.  Saunders is listed as RB/Punter.  There's at least one incoming candidate, possibly more that may be in the mix.  Doesn't mean that Guerrero isn't/won't be in the hunt, but he seems to be flying under the public radar at this point. Don't know what the coaches are thinking. One of the younger guys may have a better sense.

If Guerrero stays with the cieve's he'll do fine. Of course, it would be good for him to give it another shot. Yet, as most of you guys have been posting, the Q.B. spot will be ultimatley determined during summer camp. The coaching staff always determines who the q.b. will be during camp. Besides, the tigers need more recievers to help out Ciasulli (who, yes, still has another year left due to an injury in the past),Inabnit, &Washington.

Maybe Fight ULV can answer this question for me: Recently, i stepped onto the ULv campus to handle some businness and  decided to head to the weight room after my business was done. Upon entering the old super tents and heading to the weight room and the track, i couldn't find one single student athlete getting ready for the upcoming season. Do many of your football guys stay during the summer to condition or might we hear that Leos work out in the morning for this answer?

They work out in the morning. This has already been answered by our ULV bretheran.

Browneagle64

I think the answer that our ULV brethern implyed was only for spring ball. I know this because i made the point about why ULV wasn't working out or doing any spring ball drills during the spring time. Additionlly, while i was on campus during the spring, most of the time, i didn't see any football activtity.
Spring ball and summer conditioning are two different steps in heading towards the SCIAC crown. Something i know for sure ULV is currently lacking in completing and even attaining.

When I was still playing I was one of about 15 people on the football team who stayed around campus to actually work out there  :(.  And 15 is actually a generous figure on my part.  Most people go back home and are too far away to work out on campus.  But if Coach Durant is the same now as then he's put together a detailed work out plan for each player on a disk for the whole summer.  Also, those of us who were around worked out at 6:00 A.M. on the dot Mon-Fri.

It's hard to have a lot of spring football activity without a head coach. >:(
