Quote from: OxyBob on June 19, 2007, 05:05:36 PMFrankly, I was relieved to read what Jones had to say. I was afraid he left the Cal Lutheran football program for petty reasons because Ken Mosley wouldn't shake his hand.

He should write for the President when he needs a politically prepared statement.

Wouldn't it be poetic justice if he gets to WW and sits...considering he's not going to have a clue about the offense, I'd say that's entirely possible...

Are we sure anyone is going to know so much about the offense? Longtime offensive coordinator left this offseason.

BoBo

There is a Beaver in the backfield.  That might give you a clue about the kind of offense WW will run.

I'm real stupid.  That last reply should have been before yours Mr. Coleman.  I was going to modify my original reply, but hit the delete instead.  My fault.

Bobo....nice shirt!  Were they run oriented last year?  Do you think the new OC will change things up?

I would think DJ  would have talked to the new OC, checked out the offensive scheme and asked what his role would be before transfering.

Pat Coleman

As you probably know, they had a wide receiver drafted by the NFL. That should be some indication, no?

PC...Maybe, they also had one of or maybe the best rb in d3......no?   ;)  That combo could mean a balance between the two.  Players are not always drafted on stats but as you know, physical potential and other factors.

Pat Coleman

Well, if you're really interested, you could use the links we have on this site to go to UWW's site and check out their stats.

dawg,

UWW averaged 225 (56%) through the air and 177 (44%) on the ground last year.  Bear this in mind, had Beaver not been injured and missed the 5 games, those numbers may have changed slightly, but during 2005 with Beaver without injury and gaining 2,494, they were still 55%/45% pass/run ratio.  Having an experienced QB was very key to their success.  Jones, Ryczkowski, Donovan or whoever wins the starting nod this year, will have to hand the ball to Beaver and mix in the pass.  If that QB can complete 55-60% of their passes with few INT's, they should be successful (Jacobs only completed 56% with only 6 INT's last year).  However, Jacobs excelled at game management and only time will tell if the guy this year can match that ability.  A lot of talk in the off season has centered on replacing Stanley, but replacing TE Pete Schmitt will be equally important.  There's a couple young WR's in Gifford (20 catches/19.0 avg/2 TD) and Wells (and as KR) who looked very impressive last year as freshman and will probably play a larger roll in the offense in '07.  Coach Leipold in his comments at the time he got hired indicated the offense would continue pretty much as it was, but now with a new OC that is yet to be seen. I just can't be convinced that they will change things that much. We're going to have to wait to see what scenario plays out.

Let me add one more thing that I just found on warhawkfootball.com (click on the newswire)

...Leipold said.  "While many aspects of our game plan will be the same, or very similar to the past couple of seasons, we will definitely incorporate new aspects to our total package."

D O.C.

No kidding. That dead horse got right up in the vacuum of July.

Quotesome, not all, decided that short skirts and beer was more important.

Didn't that happen right before a very important conference standing game in mid season? Maybe that got his goat then.

Bobo...thanks for the insight.  I did look at last years stats before I asked and I knew that Beaver was out 4-5 games so I didn't put alot of meaning in the ratio.

A balance between pass and rush, no matte how strong the other might be is always a great thing.  It makes them both better.

DO.C.    He or they only had themselves to blame for that situation.  Maybe they thought they were on the basketball team instead of football, remember that debacle?

Throughout the early 2000's,  UWW was considered a, "run first, run often, offense.  They were always known for having great RB's but a major shift took place in 05 when talent like Jacobs, Schmitt and Stanley allowed the coaches to further develop the passing game.  That gave them the very explosive, balanced offense that allowed them to compete at the national level and took them to the Stagg Bowl twice.   A team that is not balanced is not able to go deep into the playoffs when playing against the best in D-3, IMHO.  With a new HC, OC and QB, who knows how the offense will change but I sure hope that the lesson of a balanced offense has been learned.

Footballfan413....cant agree with you more.  I think it's true in any division.

The 04-05 Linfield team with Elliott/Allen would be a notable exception, of course!  What a dominate passing offense that was!
