The San Dimas Saints did make the playoffs last year.

I remember when my son's Pop Warner team finished the season winless - and still made the playoffs.

Up here in the NCS, teams with .500 records get in the playoffs; heck we've actually had teams with losing records qualify for the playoffs.  I didn't realize that happened in the Southern Section, too, but I see that it does.

SD...are you getting to see any of the practices?Been hearing the same thing.Only 18 days until Whitworth!

GO BULLDOGS!

we dropped off the package at Whittier last night. Not a dry eye in the house. :)

Football season is here!!!

dawgs57

Is anybody surprised to hear the Dawgs (or any other team) is looking good in practices?  I don't ever recall hearing reports to the contrary about any team @ this level.
On a related note, Redlands OC Jeff Thomas was recruited as a QB for the very offense I suspect he is installing (The 5 Wide, I hope) and Jeff started a handfull of games before moving over to CB during Groefsma's 1st year as starting QB.  Jeff knows quite a bit about the offense.  I suspect he might get some insight from Ken Miller too - I know coach always liked JT.

I know you're loving parents, but please don't show up to watch a practice. Your kid is now in college, give him some room to breath and enjoy being on his own. I would have died if my parents showed up to watch a practive while I was at Redlands. Support your son and the team on Saturdays.

It's not like I'm going to run down on the field and tie his shoes for crying out loud. (although FTP might ;D)  We will stay in the stands and he probably won't even know we are there!  I wasn't only referring to watching him practice but I'd like to see how the whole team is doing.    I use to go watch my son's practice at high school every now and than to see how the team was doing and he didn't have a problem then and I'm sure that he wont now. (and if he did beleive me he would tell me!)  Dont worry I promise not to embarrasse him! ;)

It's not high school anymore, that's the point. He's trying to fit in and gain the respect of probably over 100 new teamates. Some who are three to four years older then him. Trust me, if you show up to watch practice he will get ranked on big time.

I heard through a third party that there's a lot of dissension on the Cal Lu campus (players leaving/unhappy) due to the hiring of McEnroe.  Maybe this is more-so a reaction to Squires leaving than his replacement, but McEnroe did good work at Chaminade and really turned that program around.

This is his first go at a head coaching position at the collegiate level, any word from Cal Lu posters how it is going?

Oswald - to my knowledge there was one significant player who left (that one got discussed a great deal earlier in the summer) , beyond that every indication I've seen (and read in "Kickoff" - nice work Pat and Keith!) it sounds like there are many key players returning from last year.

It is McEnroe's first head college coaching job, but my guess is that's the usual situation in the SCIAC - it's the first collegiate head coaching job for just about everybody, perhaps this was even true with Widolff and Maynard when they were first hired?

Every transition brings uncertainty, but for now I think it's fair to be optimistic about the upcoming season, especially as the conference appears to be fairly wide open.

All's not well in Whoville. The problems are not with McEnroe, but with the new DC. Players that have been starters or played quite a bit the last 2 or 3 years are not getting a chance in practice. Apparently, the DC has already made up his mind who the starters are going to be 4 days into camp. One player who was a starter for 3 years has been told that he is not athletic enough to play defense. Players are not happy with the way things are going with the defense. I know it's a new coach, but some guys are getting benched for players that were on the bench behind them.

I hope he knows what he's doing, or it's going to be a loooonnnng year for the Kingsmen.

That's the great thing about having a new coach, everyone get's a new chance to show what they can do. Coaches sometimes have different philosophies when it comes to personel. I wouldn't worry about it too much, the season is long and things change every week.
