Just got back from handling my business at U.L.V and boy was i surprised to see what was on display on the football field.

First of all, i was glad to see that coach Ankeny did a fine job in finding a staff to work with him and the kids. However, when it comes to the kids on the team this year, i must say that it was sad to see how the leo's have turned into an anemic relative of the 06-07' sagehens. The team is down in numbers and it's not looking good. For instance, there will be a total of 8 o.l, 6 D.L, 3 q.b's, 2 t.e. and let me not mention the low numbers at the other positions. Additionally, morning practice only lasted 1 hour in which the majority of it was dedicated to position specifics and no whole team scrimmages.
I have to honestly say that the leo's will be in a long bumpy road this year. Of course, the low number of players not returning back was a problem caused during the search for an H.C, however, that's what they have to work with from here on out. Look for the offense to be throwing the ball a lot this year with Dolittle under center, but, watch the defense give up a lot of points. All i can say, is i wish the leo's luck and i hope that the team will do it's best to battle the hens for the bottom of the SCIAC this year because i don't see them taking any huge steps forwards. (btw, these are just my opinions and not necessarly to start a piss match)

Btw, word from a former coach of mine is that Caron is back for the hens this year. He was missing in action last year, right?????

What's the word from the pup camp? Are the young pups on offense growing into dawgs??? Anyword, Snoop??/

How's about the mighty Poet newbie faithful???? Do you guys like Shurlock under center? He should do just fine if (and only if) his o-line takes care of him.

Thanks for the update on the Leopards. Will you have a chance to get over to Oxy? I'd like to know how Justin Goulds [sic] is doing.

Early word out of camp is that it is a three-way battle for QB.  All of the scrimmages before Lewis & Clark will be intra-squad so we may not know a lot until after the first game.

Notable, however, was that the third QB . . . a transfer/intinerant student with some bigger program experience, was picking up the offense pretty quickly.

Should be an interesting year . . . I think that Pat, K-Mack and the rest of the folks got it pretty right in the preview, and figure that the home opener against Redlands will really be a "make or break" moment for one of the two teams, with the winner having the best shot at winning the SCIAC and earning a slot in the playoffs.

Not a big surprise on the Leps  :-\.  I knew something like this was going to happen.  My biggest worry was the recruiting class and how many returners there were going to be because of all the time ULV took on finding a coach.  I just hope they knew what they were doing with the hire and found a guy that can build a program.

SnowLep, what do you say about going to the first homegame against the Rats on Sept. 15?

Comments re Ohnesorge's performance in yesterday's preseason match between the Giants and Jets:

*Ohnesorge averaged 47.6 yards on seven punts in Feagles' absence.

"The punter came through for us tonight," Coughlin said.  "I thought Cory did a nice job."

And in other left coast DIII news, it appears, based on the KC Chiefs web page, that Whitworth's Michael Allan is the leading receiver for the Chiefs in the preseason:

Michael Allan   5 receptions,    64 yards gained, 12.8 average, 20 yard longest gain, no touchdowns.

But, did you hear, as Coughlin was exiting the Giants post-game press conference, he was overheard saying to one of his assistants, ..."Feagles who?"   ;)  Seriously, sounds like a super response to the challenge presented him.  He responded beautifully.  I hope he continues to punt well and earns a shot.

:(After reading this sentence, I got all exited thinking that any suprise would be good suprise. It's pretty sad that low numbers is what i expected after this horrendous off season....

I truly hope Ank returns the Leos to greatness in the near future and I look foarward to making it out to a game or two to see how he runs the show. It'll be interesting to see how Coach does in his first full off-season at LV with recruiting and conditioning etc...

I like it!  Lets see if Whittier can back up their new tough guy logo.  Nah, no coaching this year.  It just takes up so much time and I don't have enough money to miss that much work  >:( :-[ :'(.

FTP, it's great to see your excitement in anticipation of Poet football this fall. How do you think they'll do, any insights from camp?

My son is an incoming freshman, so my team knowledge is lacking at this point. I do know that the expectations are high and Coach looks for huge improvements this year. The defense is very strong at LB and db. The dl is very young, but I have a feeling they will be ok.;)

Offense should be very exciting...as I hear more, I will post news. I will be going to the scrimmage on Saturday...should have some info following that

thanks
